Whilst shopping with my super slim friend over the weekend I realised just how fat I feel - and getting on the scales provided proof. I've put on 2 stone - 1 stone of which has come on very recently ( think a month or two?!).
Other than looking lumpy and increasingly featureless, my legs are achy and I don't feel like I've woken up properly ever.
So, I'm going to start on the diet today. The plan is to eat lots of veg and fruits, lean meats, and limited carbs. I'm going to have 3 decent sized meals a day, and not snack unless I'm truely hungry.

I'm going to weigh myself and post on here every Tuesday. Anyone who wants to join in please do!

Starting weight; 11st 13.
(Target weight 10st so 1st 13lbs to lose)

moosemama that's brilliant! Grin getting into another stones band helps too - I can't wait to do that! You're sounding so much more positive too, and what a fantastic event for your goal weight - congratulations in advance! Grin

bogle what a good reason and way to put on 4lbs though eh? I don't think that's half bad for a weekend in France, god you'd have to airlift me out - all that bread, cheese and wine!

I'm back on track and planned loads of healthy meals for the week. I'm not going to beat myself up about my weekend indulgences, I'll just have to hope for the best for Friday (before another bloody weekend of temptation!).

moosemama · 20/06/2011 15:31

Aw thanks folks. Blush

itsnice, its good that you're not feeling hungry, but you need to eat regularly to keep your metabolism up. Sorry to hear about the headache, hope the paracetamols do the trick.

Bogle, I think weekends in France can be excused and as you said, 4lbs will be off again in no time.

Lambskin, you have a very healthy attitude. The weekend's gone, what's done is done - onwards and upwards.

itsnicetobenice · 20/06/2011 16:05

had a bag of quavers before school run, headache gone. Roll on tea: cod fillett, jacket pot loads of salad with a light dressing mmmmm

Whats everyone else having?

Lambskin · 20/06/2011 17:21

I've got Moroccan chicken (a Body Blitz thing) and a crunchy salad of red cabbage and fennel with a homemade vinaigrette. Ver posh and ver healthy Smile

itsnicetobenice · 20/06/2011 17:31

mmm morrocan chicken - is there a recipe for that then? i ask because i have bloody loads of chicken breasts in my freezer and fear i may bore of them!

moosemama · 20/06/2011 17:31

I've just made macaroni cheese for everyone else - a treat for ds1 because its his favourite and he worked really hard on his literacy homework this evening.

I don't normally like it, but it was so hard stopping myself from grabbing a chunk of cheese and it smells lovely bubbling away in the oven. Just making it made my stomach rumble, so I had to have a couple of brazil nuts to stave off the pangs.

I've got quorn steak and steamed veg.

Jammyrella · 20/06/2011 21:56

I've just made macaroni cheese for us to have tomorrow (I have a PTA meeting to go to, so D can reheat it while I'm out ready for when I get in.) I followed a recipe in a low fat/healthy eating book, adding cauliflower and brocolli to the macaroni (so less pasta than normal), and making the sauce with semi-skimmed milk (re cipe said skimmed but only had semi in), flour, but no butter, and lower fat cheese.

I admit it's smaller portions than I would normally have made, but we can add salad and cherry toms etc to bulk it out. So don't feel you must miss out!

moosemama · 20/06/2011 22:21

Thank you Jammyrella, that sounds like a good alternative.

Unfortunately, my eldest (who's the macaroni addict in our house) is autistic and has to have every meal done exactly the same way every time - especially his beloved macaroni cheese - he's also gluten free, which makes life that bit more interesting when cooking for him. Hmm

Maybe I could make him a normal one and do myself a mini-version of your recipe.

I've come in way under my MFP calories again and am starting to worry that I'm not eating enough, although I'm not hungry, feel like I'm eating healthily and am not doing much in the way of exercise most days. I do know I need to increase the number of intakes I'm having, as I'm not remembering to fit any snacks in, so maybe that will help bridge the gap.

A typical day (eg today) for me so far has been:

Breakfast: Porridge made with water and a Pukka Detox Tea

Mid morning: Decaff coffee with skimmed milk

Lunch: Wholemeal pitta with a low fat hoummous, half an avocado, cherry tomatoes, celery, cucumber, spring onion and lettuce (we're talking a BIG pile of salad here - have to eat it with a fork as it won't stay inside th pitta) and a Pukka Cleanse Tea

Tea: Quorn peppered steak with steamed carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and peas (or mange tout, sweetcorn, spinach, fine beans)

Evening: Decaff coffee with skimmed milk

Pukka Nightime tea before bed

I think I possibly need to add some fruit into the porridge (blueberries or strawberries) and find a suitable snack option for mid-morning and afternoon. Have just ordered some fat-free natural yoghurt, so could perhaps sling a bit of fruit in that for one and maybe have nuts for the other? I want to keep it as fresh and unprocessed as I can and tend to avoid 'diet food' like weightwatchers cakes etc, as they just make me crave things I shouldn't be eating.

What do you ladies think - how can I improve on the above?

Also, Lambskin MFP keeps telling me I've gone over my fat intake by between 4 and 7 grammes, despite being well under my calories, yet I haven't eaten any saturated fat at all since last Wednesday. Do you think this is worth bothering about, considering I'm only eating 'good' fats?

LollipopViolet · 20/06/2011 22:29

Right, I'm going to join you all, and since I'm not at uni now, I shall have no excuse for dropping off the thread.

13st, need to be about 9, so 4 stone to lose. I'm going swimming tomorrow, will aim to swim 3-4 times a week. Going to go to town after and get some nice new costumes/costume and a tankini, to motivate myself.

My problem is this: I'm lucky that as yet I have no kids and still live at home, so at home I eat pretty healthily. But when I'm at uni or out and about the healthy eating goes a bit...wrong.

Luckily, I have a lovely friend who's just qualified as a holistic nutritionist and she's going to help me work out a plan of "things I can buy when I'm out that won't make me fatter" (my words!). I tend to go out with her the most so when we go for meals etc she helps me go through menus etc.

Just not looking forward to the swim tomorrow, haven't been for about a year!!! :( It's gonna kill me!

Also, anyone know anywhere I can buy swim socks, the skin on my feet is all cracked and I don't want to pick anything up through my feet.

Jammyrella · 21/06/2011 07:02

Hi Lollipop - just to say a few weeks ago I had my firs swim in about 10 months. I did 20 lengths, but it was tiring. Last week I managed 40! It really does get easier, so stick with the first few tiring ones. Having said that I always find the 1st 12 lengths hard work - even when I swam regularly and would swim 60+ lenghts at a time. But once I''ve broken through those 12 it's OK.

Lambskin · 21/06/2011 08:15

Hello Lollipop what degree are you doing? Try these for your swim socks:
www.funswimshop.co.uk/swimsocks
www.swim-socks-adults-supaprice.co.uk

Although have you tried sports shops if you need them quicker? Probably telling you what you already know!

its nice the Moroccan chicken is from the Body Blitz diet book (Anna Richardson). You need 2 fillets per person so great way to get rid of surplus, you combine 1/2tsp of cumin, 1/2tsp chilli flakes, 1/2tsp dried coriander, and lemon or lime zest and rub into the scored fillets and bake for about 30 mins. I'll check on this I could've missed something but I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. I had to cube and stir fry the chicken in the end as dh was using the oven, but it's delicious either way Smile

moosemama I ignore everything but the calories. I'm always over on my protein and if you're having avocado every day that'll be what's tipping you over, but as you say that's good fat so ignore. Your diet looks really good to me, you could add some protein at lunch time - an egg? I know you overdosed on those in the past but they are good and will give you an extra 70 cals I think. Fruit to porridge would be good and fruit mid-afternoon in low fat natural yoghurt for a snack.
I think I remember reading that you should try to have protein at every meal.

I was way under on calories yesterday, and today, but then it evens out because of the weekends! I have to keep reminding myself that it isn't a race. If I don't get to my goal weight for 6 months then so be it, the important bit is the maintaining afterwards and if it goes too fast it's more likely to be water.

Have a good day everyone!

tinker316 · 21/06/2011 11:30

I have also got the my fitness pal app 2 help me with my poor diet Wink

moosemama · 21/06/2011 11:55

Hello Lollipop, hope your swim goes well. It must be great having a nutritionist as a friend - we'll all be coming to you for advice now we know. Wink

Lambskin, thanks for the advice about MFP. According to the calculator, I'm getting 10 grammes of protein with that lunch, from the wholemeal pitta, chickpeas in the houmous and avocado, but could probably do with a bit more. I usually have cheddar at lunch time, but am trying to cut down on sat fat (am craving cheddar big time though). Just had a shopping delivery and have now got some cottage cheese with chives, extra low fat philadelphia with garlic and herbs and a packet of quorn slices so I can get more variety into lunches this week. The cupboards were running quite low, so my choices were limited until this morning.

Hello tinker, don't blush - I have far more than you to lose. I am very Envy of those of you that can do the shred. I'd love to give it a go, but know full well it would do me more harm than good. I'm new too and have found being on here really helpful over the past week - it helps me to know I have to face up to and admit any sins and then the truth about the dreaded weigh-in. I could never go to a club and do it in person, but doing this is having the same effect for me.

I'm still stuck at home with poorly ds today, but have made a point of not sitting down until now, so am doing quite well at being generally more active.

itsnicetobenice · 21/06/2011 13:15

i will give that morrocan chick a whirl thanks Smile. I too am coming under on mfp so much so that last night after it told me off i had a wedge of cheese , today for lunch i have had 2 lightly fried eggs on toast which want bad on the cals but see i just boosted my cholesterol on mfp Blush. Rest of the day i will be an angel of health. I blame my ds as he is a chucky egg fanatic and was demanding them for lunch!

LollipopViolet · 21/06/2011 13:24

Well, I surpassed my expectations today! Did 30 lengths, the last 10 may have been a mistake because I'm quite tired! However, I'm in town atm, and have resisted food temptation - currently tucking in to some sweet chili noodles and grilled chicken breast :) Going to go and look at swimming stuff in a minute. Sorry for any typos, am on my phone.

moosemama · 21/06/2011 13:54

itsnice - do you like poached eggs? You can have them on toast in the same way, but they don't have the additional calories and fat from frying.

Lollipop, well done - I am in awe of your 30 lengthss. I think I would struggle to do one these days and there's no way anybody's going to see me in a swimsuit. Blush

moosemama · 21/06/2011 13:54

lengths Blush

itsnicetobenice · 21/06/2011 18:42

yeah i did look at that or boiled as i was concerned i had overdone my chlosterol but it seems either way cholesterol would be high as eggs naturally are high in it - i will just have the one next time! Blush

itsnicetobenice · 21/06/2011 18:43

i am contemplating a night of no exersise today but its the big weigh in tomorrow for me so maybe i should do a 30 day shred or not? hmm

mg2012 · 21/06/2011 18:48

LollipopViolet · 21/06/2011 18:58

Hello all!

Got myself 2 new tankinis today, both the same (black with pink stripes/details). Now, to swim or not to swim tomorrow? Only problem is I'm due on soon and have never got on with tampons, so when that happens I'll be confined to land based exercise for a week (which I hate) :( I think I'll go while I can! Apparently, 30 lengths of a 25m pool is half a mile, so I now have a goal: I'd like to build up to swimming a mile. Then when I've done that, I'd like to swim a mile more and more quickly! :)

itsnicetobenice · 21/06/2011 19:00

how many miles is the english channel? just incase you fancy a turd dodging challenge....

itsnicetobenice · 21/06/2011 19:09

oh dear, dh has just complained that ahhem er nookie is not on myfitnessplan as he has offered it as an alternative to the 30 day shred - sadly because i cant find a calorific value i have declined his offer Grin.
