I thought it would be great if people could share their top motivational tips for keeping strong on their diet. I'm on day two of my Weight Watchers and I am determined to keep to it (this time) and have a LONG way to go (about 9 stone!) and would greatly appreciate any tips and advice.

Good luck - here are things that worked for me (only had 3.5 stone to loose though and its now gone) hope it helps you.

  1. Log everything you eat, even if it wasn't planned and takes you over your points. Good to have a record of what you ate. Can see later what food works and what doesn't.
  1. Eat food that you enjoy eating no point in forcing yourself to eat something you don't enjoy even if its low calorie and save points / calories for well deserved night off every so often.
  1. Listen to Paul McKenna once a day if you find your willpower fading.
  1. Try on too tight clothes often, and then feel proud of yourself as they gradually fit.
  1. Set yourself mini goals and plan what treats you get at each one eg clothes, a massage... When you've hit your first target buy some new clothes, others will notice and will compliment you.
  1. Tell your good friends & family you are dieting, they will want to help you (if they are good friends) and maybe work out with you. If you are in a social situation and you are offered cake etc, just say "none for me, I'm watching what I eat" and change conversation. Don't feel you have to eat it just because your host baked/bought it....
  1. Don't be too focussed on the scales, lots of reasons why you might have a week where you don't loose (eg TOTM, water rentention due to muscle repair if you are exercising, even bowel movements), weight loss isn't linear. Take starting measurements with tape (hips, bust, thighs, waist, bicep & calf, plus body fat if possible) and update these on a chart monthly.
  1. Drink 8+ glasses water a day. Whenever you feel hungry drink more water and assess 30 mins later if you actually are hungry.
  1. Get fitter, eg 30 day shred, your changing body will make you feel good about yourself and it burns extra calories.
  1. Think of your new lifestyle (diet and exercise) as a permanent change. Don't think, I'll be eating this was until Christmas. Think instead this is my new WOE forever and I'll have a few days off it at Christmas.
