Does this really really work?

I am thinking about it I must admit because all the things in the OP are the things I've managed to do when I kept slim for the longest time in my life. I have low-carbed before and it does work for me but last time I tried it I felt so ill and I couldn't run (my fav weight loss and mood-enhancing strategy!) . I am on HRT and am going through the meno so that might be the difference this time.

Soooo...... I guess it might help me.

but a bit Shock at the price of the CD. Am very broke atm but is it essential?

Ormirian · 06/06/2011 10:32

Hi fab! It was your suggesting that made me have a look

mummynoseynora · 06/06/2011 10:38

Morning all

Can I join you please???

I got into Paul McKenna's eating about 5 years ago, a friend of mine did an NLP course and did some work with me and gave me Pauls book / CD after it.... I REALLY enjoyed it and lost 9lb that month whilst eating out loads - had pizza / curry / you name it! Unfortunately I then suffered a miscarriage and completely forgot about eating conciously etc (kind of understandably!)

Since then I have gone on to have 2 beautiful children (DD -4, and DS - 1) I am now feeling like 'me' again...;. only much bigger Confused
SO - I have never been able to get my head back in the 'pauling' zone like before... tonight I am going to reread the book and do all the visualisation things.

My problem is boredom eating mostly, DH works most evenings and I often work from home in the evening too, so am sat at the laptop for hours. I WILL get myself in the zone, I WILL start eating much better and I WILL become a good, healthy role model for my daughter particularly GrinConfused

SilveryMoon · 06/06/2011 13:11

Welcome mummymoseynora
Ormirian The cd isn't essential, but keep your eyes open in the charity shops, is where I got mine from.

Welcome to new Pauler's!
Yes Orm, it really does work and I haven't listened to the cd's for well over a month, nor have I read the book or filled in the journal. I've now lost 2 stones; one before Pauling and one since, though that took me a long time to actually start. I guess the second stone has taken me about 5 weeks...I love the freedom it gives me. Give it a go, it's unlikely you'll regret it :)

Niecie, well said!!!

ItsTime · 06/06/2011 14:41

Ormirian, would you like my cd? Have it on my iPad now so happy to share the Pauling fun if you PM me your address :)

BsshBossh · 06/06/2011 15:46

Thanks all for the congrats on the weight loss and I'm glad the total loss has inspired chocolatemacadamias, PositiveAttitude and blimey in particular.

Alibabaandthe80nappies, your day at the zoo wasn't a disaster eating-wise because you and your DH then adjusted by not eating dinner - result! As ppeatfruit would concur (I think), that wouldn't really count as a slip up as we're human after all. This is a "diet" for life so of course there will be slip ups and so long as we re-adjust at another meal (over-eating at one meal should mean we're genuinely not hungry for the next meal) then we'll be fine.

Welcome neverputasockinatoaster Smile.

Welcome Ormirian - I don't use the CD at all but have still lost weight (2.5 stones so far).

Hi mummynoseynora, boredom is my downfall too even though I'm so busy. But I work at a PC all day too and DH comes home late. I used to be a big snacker but now I hardly snack. The McKenna principles generally keep me in check and I'm finding the more I do this "diet" the less I am thinking about food. If ever I get the urge to eat out of boredom I go for a walk (even a quick 5 minute trip down the road) or knit, or mooch around the garden or read a chapter of a novel or clean the loo (!) - it's the quick walk that works best for me. Is there a displacement activity you could do? (Sometimes I also just drink a mug of coffee or hot chocolate too).

MuffinsMummy Sad. Keep talking on this thread about it if you want.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 06/06/2011 16:47

Bssh - you are right, and we wouldn't have done that in the past. We would have eaten dinner as well, because it was dinnertime!

Muffins - I absolutely agree with Niecie, nothing is off limits here so please don't feel that you have to keep things to yourself. It sounds an awful situation you are in, I really hope you can get your head straight and move on.

to new Paulers :)

Niecie - I live south-west, maybe I do know you! I also have never met any MNers - that I know of! - but I am serious about the shopping Grin

SilveryMoon · 06/06/2011 18:59

My dp is a fucking horrible cnt.
I asked him to pop to tesco to grab a bottle of pepsi and a bar of chocolate.
He said "a milky way or a 'silverymoon bar'?"
I said, just a normal bar of chocolate please.
He said "so a family sized one then"
C
nt.
I fucking hate him when he makes digs like that.
Wanker

MuffinsMummy · 06/06/2011 19:20

SilveryMoon that sounds awful bet he says he was joking as well! Bloody men!

Thank you all for the lovely comments. I'm feeling ok at the moment have been busy with taking DD1 to ice skating lessons and dropping DD2 off at grannys for a sleepover. We have just eaten dinner in morrisons had scampi was nice but chips weren't great but then they never are there.

I have had quite a lot of people tell me I have lost weight which is nice. I think a lot has come off my face which is probably why it is so noticable.

My plan for tonight is to do dishes, get ready for tomorrow and do the shred DVD without thinking about knobhead (exhs new name :) ) it feels like it is never ending, my very own groundhog day!

SilveryMoon · 06/06/2011 19:24

Well, he's back from the shop and hasn't said anything. I don't know what he bought, but the minute I get ds2 into bed, I'm going straight myself.
Not sitting up with him now, arsehole

mummynoseynora · 06/06/2011 19:44

thanks for the welcome everyone :)

Silverymoon - what an arse Angry on your behalf! Is he a bit of a sabateur? Tell him to feck right off!

bshh on the days I am in the office I am sat at a desk all day too.... my career really doesn't lend itself to a healthy lifestyle! On work days I always go for a walk into the town on my lunchbreak so that helps, at home... I don't know - I could always do some of the ever huge mountain of washing up Confused or do some situps or something?

Muffin - how do you like the shred? How long have you been doing it? I love it - but can't do it every day which is a shame.

Right - I have dug out my book and 90 day sucess journal and am going to read through them tonight - I need to work on the visualisation stuff as I know last time I tried to get into it I didn't do them at all.... wish me luck!

MuffinsMummy · 06/06/2011 19:56

noseynora I have done it once and was really aching after but then came down with what felt a bit flu-like so haven't done it since. I think when I get used to it I will be ok but I do no exercise at the moment, I even drive to the shop Blush

mummynoseynora · 06/06/2011 19:58

it does get much easier really quickly... promise! The first time I did it I had jelly legs and couldn't walk after!

Joltek · 06/06/2011 21:11

Would you guys recommend this 30 day shred then? I have just been reading up about it and wondering if it's for me. I do tend to have slightly dodgy knees tho that seems to be a problem for some people and it has been a while since I have done proper workouts. I cycle for fitness but am not that good. I am guessing it must be worth a try for a fiver tho.

MuffinsMummy · 06/06/2011 22:29

I am only on level 1 and am finding quite intense but it is short so over quickly. I like that most of the exercises only last 30 seconds so they don't drag on. Also there is someone to follow who does easier alternatives so not so bad on the joints. I'm really hoping I can stick to it as I can do it when the DC are in bed.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 07/06/2011 01:00

MuffinsMummy my ex is called shithead!! Grin maybe they are friends!
Knobhead and Shithead...hehehe!

Morning!

Had a bad day yesterday but I am not despondent because it is the tail end of my period and because today is a new day. Fact remains though - I need to make better food choices if I am going to make some decent progress. Too scare to look at the scales at moment though!

Alibaba - Shock That is where I live! You aren't by any chance going to a toddler group this morning are you? I have my once-a-month thing to do there today which is my main contact with younguns like you who have babies. (My two are 10 and 7). It depends which bit of SW you live in I suppose. It is quite large area these days.

mummynoseynora · 07/06/2011 09:38

morning all, didn't get to read ALL the book last night but its enough for a reminder to get me going today before I read the rest tonight Confused

So far today is a good start... I have had some breakfast (unheard of) and stopped when I had had enough ... luckily DH is a human dustbin , so he finished it!
I have brought a water bottle to work and am trying to make sure I drink it this morning and another this afternoon - should keep my hands busy and stop me snacking for something to do!
I have also brought two clementines and a packet of snackajacks to work for if I am hungry- better than running to the canteen for chocolate I figured Wink

Joltek - it would depend on your knees really and what the problem is? I find it quite intense on the knees at time (lunges etc) but if its a muscular problem it would probably help them over time?

BsshBossh · 07/06/2011 09:48

mummynoseynora, you know that you can have chocolate if that's what you really prefer? Just eat it very slowly, savour it and be prepared to not want much of it; or else keep a stash of really dark chocolate in your desk drawer - the kind that breaks into squares. I find I only "need" a square or two of 70% chocolate.

mummynoseynora · 07/06/2011 10:01

see I actually do like fruit- but I NEVER think of it normally... I tend to just go to work and when I get hungry go to the canteen and grab something... anything - which is invariably crisps or chocolate, and NOT because I want it! I have actually gone off choc recently Shock but eaten it anyway - stupidnora!

BsshBossh · 07/06/2011 10:41

I've always liked fruit, but now I'm savouring food more I've found I love fruit and I am so happy that cherries have come into season Smile. Okay, noseynora, keep stashing your drawer with clementines Grin.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 07/06/2011 13:59

I've had two bad days too...had the pre menstrual munchies, but no period arrival yet. Did the same last month too :(

OP posts:
Niecie · 07/06/2011 15:50

Hells teeth I'm struggling today! I keep wanting to eat. I'm not hungry but I want something. Have had a pear drop. That worked for about 15 minutes. Now I have had some grapes on the basis it is better for me than cake or chocolate. I do find them very moreish (sp?) though.Blush

I have retired up to the loft to sit in the study as far away from food as I can get. DS1 is downstairs watching car programmes so I have double the excuse for going into hiding!

Ormirian · 07/06/2011 15:54

OK. I am drinking water. I am eating mindfully - I am doing a lot of eating mindfully Grin I am supposed to be going out this evening so I am going to aim for no beer. No beer in a pub!
