Why shouldn't you drink carbonated drinks when dieting?

I mean apart from the artificial sweeteners thing? Or is that it? Why do some say no fizzy water?

I am genuinely curious!

I do drink diet sprite and / or diet coke - often 2 cans a day and have had no problem loosing weight.

Tim Feriss in his 4 Hour body book though reackons that one can a day ok but more can slow down weight loss/

There are opinions that its can be harder to loose weight if you drink them.

I drink diet coke most days and have been losing weight successfully. No problem. I need the caffeine.

Erebus, I read somewhere that the body reacts to the sweetener as if it's sugar and sends out extra insulin, which can cause weight gain. Can't see how this would be true as sweetness is just a taste on the tongue if it's artificial. I love diet coke and diet ginger beer as sweet fixes when I'm trying to lose weight, but members at Slimming World when i went there claimed that they couldn't lose that last half stone until they gave up the diet sodas.
