Hi all,

So according to MFP.com I should be eating 1200 calories a day.

A typical day is

30g special k/Sultana bran, mug of tea, berrocca

soup, one piece of bread, fruit

pasta, meat sauce/sensible evening meal, low fat yog

snacks may include Healthy Choice pretzels, pkt iced gems, raisins

This almost always take me over my 1200 allowance, to more like 1500/1700.

I am usually still hungry and could eat much more - if I go to the gym and burn 500 calories I can eat more and this usually satisfies me

My point is that my diet seems reasonable to me and quite healthy but 1200 seems awfully low and hard to stick to.

Does anyone else struggle with what MFP.com says they are "allowed"?

Bloss

godessblossom I have recently signed up with them ( to save spending £ on WW ) .

Looking at the food you listed - how many calories are the pretzels ? Your main meals look quite saintly

TheGoddessBlossom · 12/05/2011 18:58

They are the Tescos Light Choice ones, 94 cals....

I guess it could be the main meal as DH cooks and I find it impossible to even guess the cals in that accurately, but I know basically what it is and he doesn't cook with oil, cheese, fry anything - it's veg and meat for chrissakes, or spag bol, and I am eating one reasonable size portion...

I dunno, just doesn't seem like an unreasonable daily amount of food for a busy active person, so eating less and being hungrier to be my "correct" (desired) weight DOES seem unreasonable....

Are you loosing weight? If so don't worry about eating more.

My limit is also 1200, typical day:

2 eggs (omelette) with spray and activia fat free fruit yoghurt with oatbran for breakfast
apple mid morning
tuna salad (whole tin tuna and loads of salad with fat free yoghurt dressing) for lunch
pear mid afternoon
grilled chicken and huge quantity of fat free ratatouille for dinner
skinny cow ice lolly or yoghurt for dessert
depending on size of chicken might have calories left for some cashew nuts.

Am only hungry in say hour before mealtimes which I think is ok. But yes if I used my calories for things like pretzels or ice gems or even special K I'd be hungry.

TheGoddessBlossom · 12/05/2011 19:01

so you think it is the things I am eating that are wrong? I must say I often (always) have fat and protein units leftover that I haven't used.....

You have omelette AND bran and yog for brekkie?

No I am not loosing weight.

Yes have 2 eggs with spray and yoghurt with around 20g oatbran stirred in.

I always have carb units left (only eat roughly half) and for example yesterday went over on protein and fat (about double each). The protein was the 2 eggs, the yoghurt, salmon for lunch, yoghurt dressing in salad and had quorn and cottage cheese "lasagna" (actually with aubergine) for dinner. Plus some cashew nuts, a snack of turkey breast slices and a skinny cow ice cream stick.

Yes have lost weight although now am at target (9 stone at 5 foot 4) so need to increase carbs and calories a bit. Was 12 5 in October but it was baby and breastfeeding weight.

Different things work for different people - I have found weight loss easiest and quickest with less carbs and more protein (not atkins though would of course eat carrots, celeriac, fat free dairy, pulses, fruit, and only low fat protein) - but not pasta, rice, bread, potatoes.
