Low carb starts today, can I have any fruit?

I'm so not happy with myself, I've ballooned. I'm making an effort to quit the booze and start low carving. I know it works. A question though, is any fruit allowed at the beginning? I have green salad in my basket as I really can't to without any veg at all.

nope fruit is out cos of the sugar in it
stick to green veg for salads in the beginning
depends on how strict you plan on being
will you eat tomatoes and carrots ?

kittya · 30/04/2011 15:18

I'd like to eat tomatoes

I didn't realise you could eat fruit!!

I'm doing low-GL, which only allows certain carbs but all the fruit and veg you want. It really is much healthier to do than low-carb.

Where do I find out about that diet bythesea?? I do love fruit Smile

I've started. I wish I had a list of what I could and couldn't have! I can do without the fruit and I will be ok if I van have salads. What kind of meat do you have mostly?

You can eat most vegetables (broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, mushrooms etc.). Just exclude the high carb ones like carrots and sweetcorn. Onions are also quite carby, but you can include them in small amounts (or switch to spring onions).

Thanks Leda. Have you been following a low carb diet for long? Has it been successful?? X

foreverondiet · 30/04/2011 23:28

No fruit to start with but if you aren't being so strict could have some berries....

I've been doing the New High Protein Diet since mid February. It is less restrictive than Atkins and IPD -- you can eat between 40 and 60 grams of Carbs a day. I stick to around 40. It fits my way of eating and I've lost almost two stone so I am very happy with it.

The GL diet takes the GI Index concept one step further. It is based on the most current science in how the body stores fat from carbs.

I tried to find info on line, but a lot of the websites are just trying to sell you their own plan. This website seems to have a lot of free info: www.lowcarbiseasy.com/

I'll take a look at the website. Thanks bythesea Smile
