Starting A Low Carb Diet?

Hi. I recently gave up smoking and have put on about 10 lbs,I was 10 lbs overweight anyway,so that means 20lbs to lose.
I have cut out the carbs for the last few days, just eating fruit and veg-which I love. This has helped me to lose that feeling of bloating and "fatness'. Have lost 3 lbs.
But I actually know nothing about a low carb diet. What can I use to substitute pasta and rice?
Can anyone recommend any good websites for info?
Oh,I do run and swim also, and have increased these too.
Thanks.

Thanks alot BIWI. I know the alcohol has to go.

If i cut out cheese and those meats I am stuck for what I actually would eat!

And sorry should have said, lunch was tuna with a MASSIVE salad, and dinner had a large green salad with it too.

Just had raspberries with greek yog for brekkie.

Jeeze, the boys' hot cross buns smell goooooooooodd.....

It's hard to cut it all out TGB, after a few days I didn't really fancy it that much any more.

The children's food is another story!

can I ask a question please

I am always concerned by the apparent lack of fibre in this diet
-is this really the case?
-if so how does it affect you?

TIA

sfxmum - it's really only in the initial, most 'disciplined' phase of a low carb diet that veg/salad is restricted to 20g. After that, you can eat more.

One of the misperceptions about low carbing, especially Atkins, is that it's all about eating meat and egg (all preferably fried) and nothing else!

It's actually about eating unprocessed meat/fish and plenty of salad and veg - so lots of fibre. And, as you should be drinking lots of water, then there really shouldn't be an issue with constipation. I've never had a problem with it.

TGB - the thing about the snacks that you're eating is that actually you're adding extra calories. Although calories shouldn't really matter, they do come into play if you haven't got much to lose/are close to your target, which is why I was asking how much you have to lose.

If you're in ketosis, which you should be if you're restricting your carb intake to 20g per day, this acts as a natural appetite suppressant, so you won't get hungry, ergo you won't need the snacks! And sometimes, snacking is a habit - especially easy to fall into after a glass or three of vino!

There's nothing wrong with including bacon or salami or pepperami or pancetta in your diet - I'd just avoid having them all in one day. So if you know you're cooking chicken with pancetta for dinner, have an omelette for breakfast instead of bacon and eggs, and so on.
