Low-Carb - No alcohol 30 day diet. Anyone want to join?

SpringFollows · 14/04/2011 21:06

Does anyone want to join me on my quest to eat low-carb and ban alcohol for 30 days? I am transitioning to vegan, so my 'low-carb' version REALLY means no bread, pasta or potatoes, but I will keep rice in and fruit and veg.

I have all these great intentions, but have a glass or two of wine and fall off all the wagons! I think i need support!

I am considering joining WW next week, but in my heart of hearts i know that my issues are - enjoying wine - and eating like it is Christmas every day. Sigh.

If anyone wishes to join- starting tomorrow, I would be so pleased! Mutual support guaranteed! :)

Me- I am 5 ft 5, 40's, weigh as of this morning 10 stone 12. (I know it is more- I was really dehydrated this morning- i suspect really 11 stone).

Goal weight- ultimately 9 and half stone. Not sure where I will get after 30 days!

Hope to see you!

WOOHOOOOOO!! Well done bunny, oh you'll have a fab time and look beautiful in your new dress Grin

Rita, would normal vinegar work? I'm not allowed balsamic on the IPD. I am goung to get one today and try them.

SpringFollows · 21/04/2011 09:46

Yeah Bunny!!! Many congratulations! A stone is fantastic. :) Have a wonderful time at the wedding.

Can I join in please? I started doing a v.similar diet on Sunday.

I have cut out bread, pasta, rice, potatoes & cut right back on alcohol. I have lost 3lbs already! Probably lost a lot as body is in shock!
Yesterday I ate:
Breakfast: cereal with half banana on top
Lunch: Fried egg, bacon & salad
Dinner: Fresh fish with fresh green beans and salad.

I feel better already.

SpringFollows · 21/04/2011 13:00

Welcome Hammy!

Nice to have you on board.

i ate halloumi and cucumbers for lunch. i feel so strange eating fatty cheeses, like it is counter intuitive to eat like that and to lose weight!

weigh in on Saturday. i need to hold my nerve until then. :)

Thank you SpringFollows.

I haven't eaten cheese all week, I see cheese as quite fattening but at least I know I can have it as it isn't carb-heavy [big grin]

I'm using Myfitnesspal.com to keep track of what I eating. It's great.

fustyarse · 21/04/2011 16:20

hi all

can I jump in? Last week I started the Harcombe Diet and shifted 5lbs in the 5 days, but since then I have't budged. I have another stone to lose,at least.

This thread is pretty inpirational - I want to keep going with this and find the not having bread/pasta easy, but tend to get a bit bored after a while of the cold meats/cheeses/olives/salads....

am marinating some chicken steaks for dinner to have with salad...

way2serious · 21/04/2011 17:25

Hi everyone. I am planning to start a low carb diet tomorrow based on the IDP and wondered if i could join this group. I did it once before and lost the weight I wanted to. This time I would like to lose just over a stone by the end of May. I am hoping that is realistic. I know that it will be hard to stick to over the weekend with all that chocolate about! I am also not terribly adventurous with either my taste or my cooking and so tend to stick to the same foods which can get a bit boring. So any inspiration or recommendations, recipes, etc are welcome. i am hoping that by posting on here it will keep me on track! You are all doing really well!

SpotsMumSally · 21/04/2011 20:28

Hi Hammy, fusty and w2s Smile. Welcome. Well done on your losses so far and w2s, good luck tomorrow! It will be very hard this weekend faced with Easter eggs.

Didn't get my avocado, did quick whip round on way home and completely forgot. I'll pop in again tomorrow and look at the cheeses too. I didn't realise how narrow my food choices were until I joined this thread! I am still trying to track down a celariac to use as faux dauphinoise/chips. I am having a vodka and soda though, I feel very guilty but thoroughly deserve it after today.

way2serious · 22/04/2011 20:23

Weighed in at 10st 5 this morning and am aiming for 9 and half or slightly lower, hopefully by the end of May.

Had a good first day but probably haven't drunk enough water. Mixed with the low carb approach I am also going to try to use the Paul McKenna ideas.

I hope that everyone else has had a good day as well.

I am also going to try not to weigh myself more than once a week. I know that I will find it tricky because I am usually on and off the scales at least three times a day. So any tips for avoiding the scales are gratefully received!

SpringFollows · 26/04/2011 07:06

Welcome way, hi Everyone! Sorry, I have been offline for a few days. Busy Easter and also DS has been a little unwell, thankfully he is okay now. Plus, I was a bit alot ashamed as I fell off the wagon big time. But back now.

I am not sure what day we are on, but I may have to start again anyway! I think also I have to bring cheese and eggs back into my dit, so my vegan hopes are also out the window. I have just really struggled on the many and varied restrictions I have imposed on myself lately.

Today's plans;

Soy yoghurt and agave syrup
1 piece fruit as a snack
Large green salad with boiled eggs and cheese
Red lentil and vegetable soup (with added baguette for DH). Maybe I wil have sliced cucumber on the side to satisfy the need for crunch.

After a chocolate heavy Easter I am 10 stone 13 this morning. I will also weigh myself once a week as otherwise I get very discouraged.

Way I am also aiming for something in the 9 stone area by the end of May. A month to go... it is possible!!!! I just need to stay strong.

How is everyone? Personally I am also struggling with the no alcohol thing... we had a huge Easter and everyone around me was drinking Pimms, wine. I had less than usual, and mainly vodka tonics so that was something, but yes- back on th wagon today. :)

Have a lovely day everyone!

Hi Smile
What's that saying about it not being important falling off of the wagon, what's important is getting straight back on? Yada yada, something along those lines anyhoo. You had a good easter then? I wonder how Bunny's wedding went.

Still managing to be good (apart from the vodka slip up, but it was vodka and soda). One stone off up until today, so I am pretty happy. Now I want the rest to melt off quickly!

I bought some frocks from fleabay, we have a few things coming up. I just hope they fit by the time I have to wear them, I'm a little worried.

Is Paul McKenna any good way? I have the CD upstairs but always fell asleep when listening to it. I find water very important, the more I drink the better.

SpringFollows · 27/04/2011 08:00

Hi Spots!
Yes, I have a habit of thinking ?well I?ve blown it now, I might as well go crazy? or other negative thoughts. Yesterday I did exactly what I set out to do, and I am very pleased. It was very hard, especially at wine o?clock. I had a shower and gave myself a facial instead. That got me over the trigger points.

One stone off is great. :)

Thanks, easter was pretty good. The extreme social-ness of it was unplanned, but that made it rather nice!

Bunny, we?d love to hear about your wedding!

Today;
Breakfast ? yoghurt and agave syrup
Lunch ? HUGE green leafy salad with lots of radishes and hard boiled eggs
Dinner ? fennel and lemon salad (if I can find fennel) and tomato, onion and black olice salad with halloumi.

Drinks- lemons in water . mmm.

Hi ever, it's normal to feel rubbish on day 4/5. I felt so much better after the first week.

I read on the pig2twig forum that no more than one protein shake is recommended per day, just out of interest which one did you get?

I got so confused in H&B and left it eventually. 8lb sounds doable, you'll be fab for your holiday Smile.

My menu today;

Breakfast - sausages & faux boursin
Lunch - tuna salad
Dinner - No spagbol and broccoli.

Drinks - water and decaf tea.

I am going to unwrap my shred dvd and do that later too.

SpotsMumSally · 27/04/2011 10:28

Are you doing weekly weigh ins now spring? I'm doing that too, less disheartening.

Must visit H&B again. I would love to wear a bikini too Envy. Even at my skinniest I didn't have a bikini body.

If you're happy going by your clothes then that's fine, probably a waste of time to get scales. I weigh myself too often and it get's depressing because your body weight fluctuates so often. I have shoved the scales under the bathroom unit, to be unearthed on a Monday. spring obv feels the same way!

obrigada · 27/04/2011 12:33

Hi everyone, can I join you? Am on Day 2 of no wine, have resolved to drink 2ltrs water throughout the day. Haven't explored low carb diet yet but do intend to!
I am always hungry which is really why I am testing the theory with regard to water, want to see if I am properly hydrated will my hunger ease iyswim?

SpotsMumSally · 27/04/2011 21:56

Hi obrigada, welcome! How did you find today? Water definitely fills me up.

My God that shred dvd, I am obviously so unfit! I was completely knackered by ten minutes in and couldn't finish it. Away tomorrow to buy a sports bra, exercise mat and hand weights to give it another go.

SpringFollows · 28/04/2011 08:14

Hi obrigada, hi everyone!

Well, yesterday's meals were as planned. However when DS went to bed i had a large sherry. Grrrr.

Today.
bk- yoghurt and nuts
lunch - sliced cucumbers, radishes, tomatos, olives and halloumi
dn- no idea.

I am going to increase exercise too. Currently I walk about an hour a day, but on my days off work I can double that.

hope you all have good days.
