(Back after a break)

That's it really - had op on Friday. Home yesterday.

Still can't believe I've done it.

If anyone wants to know more then come and talk to me about it.

Hi, Im just about, well Tuesday, to have a gastric band fitted. Has anyone on this site had the band fitted? What was your experience? Thanks

I'm the original poster! I had the gastric band.

This just came up on 'I'm on' which is weird as I last posted ages ago!

Yep. Still love it. Maintain a good weight of 10st7lbs. Its nearly the 7th anniversary. Yikes!

Haven't had it adjusted in a looong time. It just sits there dong it's job.

Any specific questions?

Peggypoo4 · 01/04/2018 22:36

Hi I’ve got a consultation on Wednesday for gastric band can you tell me are you in much pain?

Peggypoo4 · 01/04/2018 22:40

Has anyone only needed to lose 3 stone that has had band fitted?

Batfurger · 05/04/2018 13:02

Did you go to your GP for a private referral?

Thanks for posting OP, fascinating.

alterego1965 · 05/04/2018 20:17

No - I just went to one of their information meetings and started the process. It was very thorough. I never felt pressured at all.

I do know I was 'rare' in that my bmi was only 33 (iirc) so there was no nhs involved at all. Not for aftercare or anything.

After the op and any adjustment they write to my gp so it's on my record.

Batfurger · 05/04/2018 20:52

@alterego1965 sorry, whose information meetings? I’ve been googling a bit but it’s such a minefield!

alterego1965 · 05/04/2018 21:05

Oh no worries - I went with streamline surgical. I must have contacted them and they gave dates of info meetings. There are a few companies that offer weight loss surgery, and I went with them.

So at the info meeting it was like a presentation where the different procedures are discussed by the surgeons, some past patients spoke, and then at the end we could chat to the surgeons.

Batfurger · 05/04/2018 21:11

Thank you!!

Sofabitch · 09/04/2018 11:36

Jumping on as I'm on day 4 of the milk diet in preperation for a gastic sleeve with streamline surgical!

Its great to read all the positive stories.

Is this thread still going? Hows everyone doing?

alterego1965 · 01/05/2018 14:11

I'm op. I'm still here! I'm waay down the line now, but no regrets.

Doing regular 5k runs. Sprint triathlon next month. Never ill.

Life is good.

No way for that not to sound smug but honestly I'm feeling good, fit and healthy right now Smile

wizzywig · 01/05/2018 14:21

Hi altergeo, did you start of with a bmi of 33? How did/do you deal with the "why arent you eating xyz"? And people wanting to sabotage you (if they think you are on a diet)?

wizzywig · 01/05/2018 16:17

Also how did you know that the band was going to be the thing that was going to make a difference rather than a regular diet?

alterego1965 · 01/05/2018 18:04

I think my bmi was 33? I was 16 stone I think, and I'm 5'8. I'm now 10.7lbs

Nobody knew I did it. Still nobody knows except my husband and best mate. My parents, siblings and children don't know so no sabotage possible.

alterego1965 · 01/05/2018 18:08

Sorry just realised I didn't answer the questions properly.

I didn't really eat out, or with friends. I think I lied a bit and said I wasn't hungry or something.

I tell my dcs I don't eat bread or pasta as it gives me a tummy ache (kinda true)

Everyone is just used to me eating small portions now.

Probably a bit of a curiosity but people don't tend to go on.

As for the choice? I just read as much as I could, spoke to people who'd had it done and went from there. I could have been wrong, but so far so good Smile

alterego1965 · 01/05/2018 18:10

And when I did it, I had tried EVERY diet going. I do mean everything. Including alternative stuff, pills, hypnosis etc. I failed at all of them!

SubtitlesOn · 01/05/2018 18:46

I am hoping to have one so at research stage atm

wizzywig · 02/05/2018 07:33

Hi subtitles I'm at the research stage too. I've been quoted £6250 from Healthier Weight.

Slinks8113 · 06/05/2018 06:59

I’ve been speaking with healthier weight as well but just wondering if anyone else has used them? Or recommends a particular private healthcare?
I was originally considering the gastric balloon as I have a bmi of 33 but when I rang them, they suggested I look into the band as a more permanent solution. It’s been great reading all of these comments and hearing the results. I think I’ve already made the decision for the band, it’s really just who with now :)

alterego1965 · 06/05/2018 09:22

I went with streamline surgery and I'd thoroughly recommend them.

The gastric balloon just sounded too temporary, and also that it'd make me feel sick Confused

Slinks8113 · 07/05/2018 09:47

Can I ask how much you’ve lost and if you continue to keep it off or lose weight? It’s been a few years now hasn’t it?

alterego1965 · 07/05/2018 09:55

Yes

Just weighed myself this morning.

I'm 10.8lbs
When I went for surgery I know I was 100kgs which I think is 16 stone?
