Breastfeeding and weightloss - am I bonkers?

Will post in BF section, but just wanted some advice, really.

I'm not a crazy gotta lose weight 6 weeks after birth kinda gal, but DS is 8 months old now, and what with a reduced income and summer looming, I'd like to lose a stone, to save me buying any new clothes. I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but my shape is a bit, erm, less defined, so a bit of a loss would really help, as I don't have the kind of time to exercise as much as I used to.

He's on solids but still breastfeeding - 3 to four in the day and one at night.

I'd like to get most of the weight off by the end of May, so I guess we'd be looking at 1-2 pounds a week, and I'm happy to count calories and build in some additional exercise where I have the time and energy.

Am I being unrealistic? Anyone else tried to diet whilst still b'feeding/quite tired still??

Any advice greatly received!!

Ooh, I'm going to watch this with great interest!

I've found that I'm walking a lot more since DD was born (she's 10mo), and that's helped me lose most of the pregnancy weight, and tone up a little bit. I actually weigh slightly less than before I was pregnant.

We've had to get rid of DH's car as we can't afford to run two, but that means I have to walk everywhere! And with a pushchair it's a real calorie burner Smile

I started my diet whilst partially breastfeeding, 3x a day, and managed fine, lost 2lb a week. Ran out of milk but that was because DS2 lost interest in BFing due to the daytime bottles he got when I was at work.

Hello!

I'm BF my 14 month old DD. Just morning and night mainly now. I've started dieting last week. I didn't put much weight on whilst pregnant and I lost that during the 0-6months bit of breast feeding, now she's breastfeeding less I'm still eating chocolate at the same rate as before and the weight is creeping on! (at least 15lbs heavier than I'd like).

I'd just like to lose maybe 1lb a week as I don't want to stop breastfeeding. I've never dieted before as pre-pregnancy I was always pretty skinny. I found an app on my iphone (can also do it on website or other smart phones) called My Fitness Pal. It lists the calories for most stuff bought in supermarkets and gives you extra calories for exercise and breastfeeding (listed as a food bizarrely - with minus calories). It keeps track for you. Its free which is always good and you can find "friends" on there who are in similar circumstances as you to give you support and encouragement.

Good luck!
