I was once told that everytime I wanted a snack (especialy a sweet one!) that I should eat a pickle - lots of people have told me it works! but I loathe pickles and find it hard to actually put them in my mouth. I tend to eat a lot of carrots etc which I keep stockpiled in the fridge. Don't buy in any snacks - torture! I know but if its not there you can't have it

Two possible reasons: 1, your body gets used to eating a certain amount, and at certain times. And 2, (depending on what you're snacking on), carbs, especially sugar, are addictive. Sugar will give you a blood-sugar spike followed by a dip, at which point you will crave more sugar.

If you can stop snacking for a few days, your body will get used to having less food. But if you must snack, try things like nuts and cheese (in small amounts) to keep you satisfied for longer.

Alternatively, if it's a chocolate bar you want and nothing else will do, have the damn chocolate bar Grin, otherwise (if you're like me) you'll end up having 600 calories worth of other healthier things, and then end up eating the chocolate bar anyway!
