New to weight watchers pro points system, how's people finding it?

I've just started the new weight watchers pro points system last week, and I have my first weigh in on Thursday morning. My friend who I've gone with believes that I have a head start over her, as I've never done weight watchers before, so I'm starting a blank page whereas she has to learn the whole system again, as she used to go to the old points system.

To tell you the truth, I'm not to good at watching what I eat, so for me that is what I'm finding hard to cope with, but I'm sure I'll get into the swing of things soon enough.

I made a chicken chow mein last night, it was lovely, filled me right up and was only 9 pro points, 5 pro points without the chicken. I have the recipe if anyone is interested.

I would just like to know what people think of the new system and how they stop themselves eating all the bad things and swapping them with the good things.

Hi I started last week and have in the past done the other points system.

Im sort of struggling a bit on this new one, I just done really see the point of giving most people 29 points per day then theres the "Oh by the way" you have another 49 to use throughout the week,

Why not just give everyone one points allowance as in the past.

Im having to look up everything as so much as changed particularly the carbs, then you have to track your daily points then you have to track your additional weekly.

Im sure its just me not liking change but they really have hiked up the carbs on this one.

Anyone have stuck to it also since last Thurs but am sitting here feeling very hungry

hi i have also just started the pro points, i am lucky as i have been given a whole load of extra points as i am breastfeeding but it is weird and i have not got my head around the fact that you are supposed to use the weekly points allowance but i can't get through the day on just the daily ones. i am doing it on the internet, i was doing a weekly weigh in on mumsnet but that threat has died a death, not sure if that's normal as i'm quite new.

Kaz62 · 14/03/2011 20:28

sorry that should have read 'thread' and not 'threat' Grin

dontdillydally · 14/03/2011 21:20

so do you HAVE to use the weekly points I thought you could use some if you needed to

Kaz62 · 15/03/2011 14:18

i have to be honest i have not made it through a day without using my weekly points and i have lost weight two weeks in a row. tbh i have struggled to read all the jargon as i am doing it online so it would be good to know what they say in the meetings.

Dropdeadfred · 15/03/2011 14:22

but as all fruit is now free why would anyone be hungry??? just scoff loads of fruit!

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2011 16:30

you are only meant to eat 5 portions of fruit, then advise to pp it

Dropdeadfred · 15/03/2011 16:53

oh....that sucks

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2011 18:24

fruit has natural sugar, so ww has worked out enough pp for the day including fruit, but not if you go over board with it iyswim

a portion of fruit, not a whole melon for example

10/12 grapes not a bunch

wizzler · 15/03/2011 22:04

Waves to Blondes.. I didnt know that about having to PP fruit after 5 portions.. ( Wizzler scuttles away to consult tracker!)

dontdillydally · 15/03/2011 22:11

...so do you HAVE to have all the 49 extra points for the week?

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/03/2011 22:19

'waves back to wizzler'

I read the ww chat birds and it says it often there about fruit

dilly depends on the person - ww say that all should be able to eat all dailys and all 49 and lose weight

But I can't :( if I do then I either gain or sts so I try to eat 30ish but weeks I go over my 49 and use my exercise PP (which go first on the online thing) but within PP iyswim and I sts

wizzler · 16/03/2011 07:29

Dilly. I agree with Blondes. I lose more weight if I dont use many of my Weeklies. I usually have at least half of them left each week, and if I do eat them I find it better to use them on one big splurge rather than evenly through the week

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 16/03/2011 09:58

I weigh on a Thursday morning and find that if I stick to eating weeklies up until Sunday night, then have Mon, Tue & Wed on just daily points and limit carbs and exercise that I do OK. Christmas Day I had something like 103 points but then cut back and exercised a lot and went on to lose 1.5lbs on the following Thursday. Think it really varies from person to person though and you need to experiment a bit with what works for you.

dontdillydally · 16/03/2011 11:52

ok, have my weigh in tomorrow and so far have only used 9/10 of them...but I think first week you always tend to loose a lot.

Will use them as back up or for a splurge!

Im struggling with dinners - want to make a meal/recipe...may buy a ww cookbook.

What's yr fave recipe you make?

Dropdeadfred · 16/03/2011 12:29

I asked my WW leader today about fruit and she said i can eat as much as i like on top of my daily points..i have done this week and still lost 4.5 pounds

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2011 13:57

dropdead eat fruit if hungry but dont eat for the sake of it as free iyswim

ie have a snack between breakie and lunch
lunch and tea
after tea in eve

most leaders say to eat 5 a day of fruit but dont go over board as all natural sugar

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2011 14:46

If you look in the WW booklet you get at the meetings 'Start Losing Weight' there's a section in there regarding 0PP fruit/veg. It says the plan has been worked out to include the amount of Fruit/Veg an AVERAGE person would eat in a day. It says you should still pay attention to how full you feel after eating fruit etc as believe it or not they do still contain calories!!

Below are the average calorie content for fruit

Apple - 53kcals
Grapes 50g - 30kcals
Kiwi Fruit 28g - 14kcal
Orange 160g - 100 kcals
Pear 170g - 60kcals

Now given that most diets (inc WW) work on the principal of your body using more cals/energy than you consume you can see why you still have to be careful!!

dontdillydally · 18/03/2011 12:16

First weigh in and lost 4lbs...but hardly used any of my weekly...this week will need to use a few more so will my weight loss slow down?

FRUITGUM5858 · 10/01/2012 15:30

Hi,
Also a newbie to WW. Joined last night. Is there any list or book of all the PP for food? I did get the starter pack but very limited list in there.
Does anyone know how many PP's in normal Heinz soups. I had a mushroom one for lunch. Also ryvitas. I am eating the pumpkin seed ones but I bet they are higher than the normal ones. And what about Mullerlite yogurts.
A couple of good tips. Buy frozen raspberries from Tescos (MUCH cheaper than fresh ones) and make a low calorie raspberry jelly and put them in. I make 4 individual ones a week and have them for breakfast. 0 pp!! And marmite and crispy lettuce sandwiches are fab, and you only have to point the bread. Can have two for lunch!!
Thanks for any answers I get.
