How's your skin after large weight losses?

For those of you who have lost 4 stones+, how has your skin reacted?

My thighs are 'soft' with fleshy inner thighs and I think that if I lose weight (need to go from 13 to 9 stone at 5ft 6in) they will end of loose and wrinkly.

Also, how does your tummy fair - apron of skin?

If you exercised too, what did you do and do you think it helped?

Plastic surgery anyone?

I went from 14.9 stone to 9.3. My skin fared fine tbh, I did no organised exercise but I walked my butt off (quite literally)> My tummy was a disaster zone anyway after 2 big babies and bad genes, it's no worse than it was before. I lost my weight relatively quickly, certainly in less than 6 months, and tbh there is no damage, and I look and feel far better than I did before. Fwiw though I would advocate losing it slowly and excersising, purely for your metabolisms sake. I lost mine through extreme stress, and as a result of not really eatign for the best part of a year, my metabolism is screwed. I really recommend a low carb diet if you are serious about losing weight

I was about to start the exact same thread!!!

I am on a mission to lose 5 stone - have lost 7lb so far and am worried about how my skin will look when I reach my goal.

I'm doing lots of walking but think I might need to concentrate more on my tummy.

I lost four stone, three years ago. Everywhere is oaky, providing I exercise regularly. When I'm not exercising regularly, my tummy in particular is very crepey, and there is a fair amount of loose skin. Arms, legs, not too bad.

My boobs however, have been completely destroyed, and obviously no amount of exercise will do anything for them. Tennis balls in socks. I hate them so much.

Still, apart from boobs, I'm thrilled with figure now. I'm never going to wear a bikini, because I can live with that.

Lots of mistakes in that post, sorry. Should have previewed!

Carat - aim for 10 stone, not 9. You will be fine.

I went from 14.2 to 10 stone over a periiod of a year. Loads and loads of exercise and skin not too bad all things considered. I can wear a bikini and not feel really silly

Good luck Smile

I'm wondering about this too. Have lost nearly 3.5 stone with same again still to go. Everything holding up surprisingly well so far despite being wrong side of 40. Am taking it slowly and swimming, walking and digging allotment. Hopefully will be finished by Christmas and will really keep at the exercise.

I was 12 stone 5 lbs, and now 9 stone 5lbs, (at 5 foot 4). Tummy a little crepey, esp around belly button, but no apron of skin - its totally flat, with some definition (crepy is from pregnancy... boobs are also a bit saggy... ) but otherwise its all ok. Do lots of exercise and lost it quite slowly (5 months to loose 3 stone), apply palmers each night...

9 stone at 5 foot 6 would be skinny though... I don't want to loose more.

Very heartening thread, have lost stone, want to lose three or four more, but the thought of loose skin is very upsetting for me - i think i'd prefer to be fat!

Bearcat · 12/03/2011 21:41

Lost 3 stone. From 13 st 5 lb to 10 st 5 lb in just over a year. 5 ft 7 ins tall.
Crepey tummy, but don't have any intention if wearing bikini (aged 51)
Size 12 now, and keep telling DH I'm going to get to 10 st which he thinks is too thin.
I'm a bit greedy at the moment so not sure if I'll ever make it to 10st--but thats what I said at 11 st--

mamalovesmojitos · 13/03/2011 11:43

May I add - congrats to all of you! Sounds like a lot of you lost weight, exercised, and have kept it off. You inspire me Smile. I'm off to dig out my tracksuit!

27-year old here, sans kids. Lost 4 stone over about 15 months. Was also worried about loose skin, but, to be honest, skin is an amazing organ with the ability to adapt - and as long as you slap on a bit of moisturiser every now and then, don't lose weight through starvation alone (i.e. DO use exercise to tone), it should be fine.

I have stretchmarks, but have quite pale skin so not too bad.

Agree the poster above about boobs, though. No exercise can fix them. But when I get to 10 stone I WILL wear a bikini, so will have to do some kind of padded/supportive thing.

I've lost almost 5 and a half stone and have a fair few wrinkly bits: inner thighs, bottom, tummy. I'm not hugely bothered though as my norkage is still A-OK - perky, if a lot smaller - (despite EBF two children and the weight loss Grin). The other bits I cover up anyway!

Well, I do cover up my boobs actually but you know what I mean... no "crepey" decolletage etc.

Oh, and my bingo wings have totally gone and I've actually got triceps definition! >preen

Verso · 14/03/2011 14:17

Btw I do mean wrinkly, not actually sagging folds or anything dreadful, just a bit crinkly round the edges :)
