Help a new low-carber!

I started low/no carb last Sunday and have done quite well. I'm wheat intolerant too so struggle with replacements of stuff.

I've enjoyed this week, eaten a lot of meat/fish/eggs/salad/veg/chicken/bacon, and have been reading the low carbers thread on here but am a bit confused.

I'm not doing any particular diet, have tried everything under the sun and I always seem to gravitate back to SW, which is what I have based this week on.

But you have butter/mayo/cheese/parmesan etc? and oil? How does all that fit in with your weight loss?

Are you eating unlimited amounts of carb-free/low carb foods?

Thankyou!

I suggest you buy one of the books, makes it much clearer - these diets are ketogenic - basically you don't produce insulin (which stores the carbs you eat as fat) because you aren't eating carbs.

But you don't have carbs... ie no starchy (root) vegetables, no fruit (fructose), no dairy (lactose). You do end up with some carbs from the other vegetables eg tomatoes.

You can have butter/mayo etc not stupid amounts though, because you have to get calories from somewhere and you still loose weight whilst eating moderate amounts. eg 25g a day of hard cheese would be reasonable.

Thanks forever. I seem to have done ok this week, I've lost a fair bit and not craved anything. Long may it continue!
