Oh Crap!!! Weighed myself for first time in years last week!

Ok long story short I have deliberately been avoiding the scales for the last 6 years but I can not carry on this way.

I am 5ft 9" and in 2004 I weighed 12 stone 8 which I was not happy about and felt I wanted to shift some weight but unforunitely never got round to it (entirely my fault, bad diet choices and no excercise, the usual story).

We had a little boy in 2007 and since then I have let myself go completely. I am very unfit and my diet although it contains healthy meals 3 times a day contains far too many snacks. As soon as ds is in bed I hit the crisps and chocolate, biscuits etc.

I got weighed last week and found I weighed 14 stone 4! I just can't carry on like this, every year my weight is creeping up and up and I am doing something about it now.

I have been cutting out the snacks completely because I know that one packet of crisps quickly spirals for me into 6 packets.

The main problem is I am genuinely hungry all the time. What can I do and does anyone want to join me in shifting about 4 stone?

Hello again!

CorrieQueen - at least you are trying to do some exercise! At the moment I do none! I think my body is in for a shock!

Hello foxinsocks - I've just downloaded that app!

I've not eaten particularly brilliantly today. Maybe if we did report in on here with what we've eaten, I'd be so embarrassed, I'd limit my diet to just partial crap instead of all crap!

CorrieQueen · 20/02/2011 13:06

Good idea I think someone else mentioned keeping a food diary on here and I think it would be good for those who want to share.

Today I have had

Breakfast: A boiled egg with 1 slice of wholemeal toast. Cup of tea with skimmed milk and 1 naughty sugar!

Snack: Apple

Lunch: Chicken soup.

Plan to have pork and vege casserole for tea tonight which should be reasonably healthy and give me a rough total of 1200 calories for the day which is good.

Yesterday I had well over 2000 calories Blush so I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do!

OP posts:
essenceofSES · 20/02/2011 19:57

Hmm! Not a great day for me but I'll report in:

Breakfast: 2 slices of toast with Flora and jam

Midday trip to Starbucks: fruit toast and chocolate cake (both shared with DS!) and medium sixe hot chocolate with cream Blush

Evening meal: pot-boiled roast beef, roast veggies and carrot/swede mash
Followed by lemon meringue pie

I have to say Starbucks / Costa are weaknesses of mine for hot chocolate!
I've just had a week off work and back at work tomorrow and it's very easy to start the day with a hot chocolate...

I'm going to really try this week. Especially as I'm now in 2ww - ttc is another good reason for trying to lose weight and get fit!

CorrieQueen - hope you've had a good day and also anyone else that may be lurking!

essenceofSES · 21/02/2011 22:14

A week today and I'll have had my first P/T session - eek!!

I managed to avoid Costa and the hot chocolate today. I had a cereal bar and water for breakfast and a Boots Shapers tuna&pasta salad for lunch. Unfortunately I also had a gingerbread man, funsize twix and the left over roast beef with chips and a cornetto this evening. Not enough fruit & veg!!

CorrieQueen · 22/02/2011 20:21

Oooh Twix, I'd kill for a twix!!!! Doesn't sound like you've done too badly though. We're making small changes here afterall. I can not go on without eating things I love occassionally. I love food too much!

I have eaten terribly today really.

Started well with special K breakfast.

Went and ruined it at lunch and ate 2 slices of toast with nutella (I know!! I am not six yrs old anymore but I love it!) and a packet of crisps Angry.

Then for tea had a huge portion of DHs gorgeous homemade spagghetti bolognaise! Delicious but very calorific I should think.

Ahh well, sure I haven't done too much damage

Anyway, essenceofSES are you weighing yourself every week and shall we do a weekly weigh in on here? I tend to get weighed every thursday, started at 14 stone 4 last week was 13 stone 11.

Hoping to be 13. 9 on thurs, fingers crossed!

OP posts:
essenceofSES · 22/02/2011 21:22

CorrieQueen - sounds to me like you're doing v well!

I've not had a great day again. Almost ashamed to admit to:
apple juice
small Cafe Nero hot chocolate
Chicken Nugget McD's meal
cod in parsley sauce with new potatoes and peas/carrots

I got really cross by someone at work that hadn't done their job properly and took it out on McDs Blush
I suppose at least I ended the day a bit better...

It's my usual day off work tomorrow to spend with DS so hopefully will have a much better day.

As for a weigh in, that's probably a very good idea. I need to buy a new set of bathroom scales though as I'm not sure how accurate mine are. Just hope that new ones don't add more pounds on!

CorrieQueen · 23/02/2011 20:07

Ahh I have to confess to a big fat hot chocolate today too! I went to town with my friend after I dropped ds at school and planned to head for a quick shop before work but actually somehow we ended up in costa with a hot chocolate and cream Blush.

Your tea sounds very healthy!! Oh how I miss McDonalds though [girn].

It's not all bad though, I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a ham salad for lunch and some fairly low cal home made chicken curry for tea. Having said that- I am starving hungry right now!

I usually go to Boots every thursday to get weighed because it's my day off work and also I measure my body fat there to make sure it is fat I am losing and not just water or muscle (not that I have much muscle to lose!)

I do have scales which give me a rough idea but I like to just go once a week to make sure .

Hope you enjoy your day off too :-)

Hello CorrieQueen !
That sounds like a pretty healthy day to me - well done! I do hate it when I get hunger pangs but know I shouldn't eat anymore so sympathise!

I was full of good intentions today but only have managed really.
I had a cereal bar for breakfast and then my best friend phoned me and told me she was on a train with her 5yo DD down from York (I'm in Surrey) to see her gran and did I have time to catch up! All v last minute but I wasn't going to miss out so I had a hot chocolate and a toasted tea cake at out M&S cafe!

Then on to soft play with DS where I had a cheese & tomato panini for lunch. Now having tea of salmon fillet with new potatoes, cabbage and carrots with a squeeze of salad cream over the potatoes!

I stood on the scales this morning for the first time in a few weeks and I've put on weight Angry and it looked more like 12st5 :(

Funny that you get yourself weighed on the machine at Boots - I work for Boots! Maybe I'll do the same! I travel around with my job to different stores so will try and visit one where the staff don't know me very well! I am in fact doing that tomorrow so if I get chance I'll do a weigh in with you!

DH is away with work until Friday evening so I may get my Nadia Sawahla exercise dvd out later and give it a go!

essenceofSES · 23/02/2011 22:41

Well I've just done a bit of my dvd - about 15 mins. Even the warm up bit I could feel! I guess it's a start though!

CorrieQueen · 24/02/2011 13:55

Hey well done on the 15 mins of DVD [smle]

Very envious that you have the motivation to get yourself up and moving. Other than swimming and a pathetic attempt at a run earlier this week I have done nothing!

I would def get weighed at Boots if I were you cos you may be thinking you have put weight on when you haven't. Also even if you have, it gives you an accurate starting point and if we stick to it then the numbers can only come down surely. How convenient that you work there!!!

I got weghed today and.......wait for it........ I am now 13 st 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grin.

Very happy! I have lost 3 lbs this week (God knows how). I am aiming for 13 stone 6 next week so wanting to lose about 2 lbs per week from now on.

Good to know it's heading in the right direction. I must confess to having a cooked breakfast of sausage, egg and bacon this morning but I was starving after being so good yesterday and now I have come on my period so no wonder I was craving comfort food.

How's things with you today?

OP posts:
essenceofSES · 24/02/2011 21:27

CorrieQueen - that's fantastic weight loss! You are only 4lb shy of having lost a whole stone in 3wks!!!! You must be so pleased!!!

I've had a mixed day - cereal bar for breakfast, Boots Shapers meal deal for lunch (about 400Kcal) but then a galaxy ripple (about 200Kcal) and a funsize twix (113Kcal) before tea which was a microwave M&S healthy eating meatballs and spaghetti (400Kcal)which I bizarrely put cabbage and carrots with! Just finished off with 2 kiwi fruit!

On the plus side, no hot chocolate today!

I did weigh myself but was so nervous incase anyone was watching that I didn't take my jacket off or my boots! In future I do need to take my boots off as they added just over an inch to my height so will have affected my BMI calculation!

Anyway, my stats were:
Weight: 12st 8lb (80.1kg)
BMI: 27.1
Body Fat 34.9% (27.9kg)

I also bought myself some new electronic bathroom scales and weighed myself on those with just my underwear on when I got home and they said 12st 5lb.

I'm a bit disappointed but I also feel I am at least doing something now and only started this week so hopefully it will start to go down.

I think at one point you said you have a DS? So do I - my DS is 21mo. I'm 38yo and would really love to have another DC which is part of my motivation for losing weight and getting fit!

I might try some more of that fitness DVD later seeing as DH is still away with work!

essenceofSES · 25/02/2011 19:05

Hello CorrieQueen! How have you got on today? I've done ok - cereal bar for breakfast and then salad, bag of crisps (not so good!) and fruit for lunch. Having chicken leg with oven chips and mixed veg for tea.

Clockface · 25/02/2011 19:18

Hi, can I join in this thread?

I joined the local gym this week as I really need to lose weight. I am 5'6'' and 12 stone 10. The crazy thing is, I dieted last summer and got down to 11 stone 7 but I live in a university college (unconventional I know! Smile) with a big foodie tradition and if I eat in college, which I am expected to do several times a week, it's hard to keep my weight down as the food is so high calorie. I'm a veggie, and the veggie college food is all very cheese based - not good! There's always a soup on offer, so I've decided that when I eat in, I need to go for the soup.

I've done okay today though - had toast with lemon curd for breakfast, cucumber sandwich and 'baked' crisps for lunch, and home made soup and toast with no butter on for dinner, with some cherry tomatoes and red pepper strips as snacks in between times. My two aims for next week are to have cereal or porridge for breakfast, and drink more water. And to go to the gym at least three times next week...

essenceofSES · 25/02/2011 20:23

Clockface - welcome to our thread!
Going to the gym three times a week sounds v impressive!
As for soup, I love a good homemade style soup! Maybe I should try that!

Clockface · 26/02/2011 10:20

Hi Essence and everyone else!

Yes, I love making spicy soups - I made a vat of fat free spicy parsnip and butternut squash suop the other day (secret ingredient is mango chutney - mmmmm!)

It's ds's birthday today so we're gong out for lunch and then having a party later. I will try and do damage-limitation on diet though! I found out last night my BMI is 28.2 (sigh...) Am aiming to get to 25.

How often are you all weighing yourselves?

CorrieQueen · 26/02/2011 19:46

Hi everyone, welcome Clockface! No need to ask if you can join, just hop on board!

I had a healthy day yesterday I had cereal for breakfast, a salad for lunch and chicken and veg for tea. I also went for a run round the local park which actually did not leave me as red faced and wheezy as the last one!

Today however, being another one of my 'fatal' days off we went out shopping and took ds for a hunt round the Disney store which he loves but then we all stopped off for lunch and I ordered a rather calorific beef stew and dumplings! Blush It was beautiful though!

For tea I was going to redeem myself but then dh made pasta so I ate a medium portion of that too! Ahhh well, onwards and upwards.

Clockface, I am weighing myself once a week every thurs.

essenceofSES · 26/02/2011 21:27

Hello!!!

CorrieQueen - sounds like the last 2 days will have balanced eachother out, so no harm done today!
V impressed with your run. My P/T sessions start Monday evening. I'm a bit worried at how unfit I will show myself to be!

Clockface - hope DS enjoyed his birthday :)
I'm also weighing in every Thursday, although only just started this week! We're both using the machines in the larger branches of Boots that calculate your BMI and %age bodyfat too.
(Disclaimer - I work for Boots but I'm not really trying to sell their weighing machines!)

I've done ok but not brilliantly today - cereal bar for breakfast (90kcal), M&S ploughmans sandwich for lunch (450kcal), funsize twix for snack and then Thai red curry with rice for tea (550kcal).

I got the Thai red curry from "Cook" earlier and was pleased to see it was labelled as one of their "guilt free" range. DH is out at the rugby. He managed to get a ticket for Twickenham through work and has now gone to the pub with some mates. I don't expect him back until the early hours!

essenceofSES · 27/02/2011 21:26

Well not a good day for me today! Bit of a sad 24hrs as DH got a phonecall from home (Ireland) to say that a close family friend had died. He's flown home today for the funeral.

Does that excuse my diet (or lack of!) today:
2 slices of toast and jam
1 slice of fruit toast with butter
1 slice of Starbucks cheesecake
1 Starbucks hot chocolate with whipped cream
dinner of roast chicken with broccoli, carrots, roasted veg with gravy.

I'd been doing so well!!!

How are you both doing?

Clockface · 28/02/2011 10:46

Sorry to hear about your loss, Essesnce. I hope your dh is okay.

Hi CorrieQueen! Weighiung yourself once a week sounds sensible.

Well I did okay over the weekend. I had a jacket potato and salad for dh's birthday lunch and then soup for dinner, and yesterday I made some gorgeous fat free mixed bean and veg chilli which I had with rice. the only bad thing was two large glasses of wine last night Blush. I did go to the gym though and do a good workout.

I am determined to lose weight though! I am wondering how on earth I got to be this heavy. The truth is that my life is just too busy and I didn't really notice. Gah...

CorrieQueen · 28/02/2011 22:01

essenceofSES sad to hear about your family friend Sad.

Well done Clockface, ounds like you're doing well especially since it was dh's birthday!

I have been busy at work today, had mcdonalds Blush at lunch and not even had tea which I know is not good. Just feel too tired to eat now so will be back on tomorrow and hopefully have had a healthier day!

OP posts:
essenceofSES · 28/02/2011 22:11

Just had first session with Personal Trainer. It wasn't even a full session as he was also weighing and measuring us (a good friend is joining me!) I still ache and have decided I have zero stomach muscles :(
On the plus side, I am determined that by the end of the 6 week course, I will be in better shape :)

Today's diet:
cereal bar for breakfast
Starbucks of toasted sandwich, hot chocolate with cream and cheesecake at lunchtime Blush
2 slices of toast and jam for tea with (you've guessed it!) a funsize twix

That was the last funsize twix in the house though so I guess I won't be buying any more!

CorrieQueen - here's to us both having healthier days tomorrow!

Clockface - I know what you mean about life being too busy to notice.

I'm just waiting for DH to arrive home. I expect he'll be knackered and v drained. I know he's still worried about his mum too.

essenceofSES · 02/03/2011 16:42

How's everyone getting on? Ready for weigh in day tomorrow?! Hmm

CorrieQueen · 05/03/2011 14:57

Hi sorry been AWOL for a bit. Been very busy at work and now ds has a chest infection so things are a bit hectic.

However, I am now 13 st 6! Not doing too bad though today I started the day with a ful English breakfaset eeeek!

I figured it's best I have what I fancy sometimes within reason to stop me from either going into starvation mode or feeling so deprived I binge and fall off the wagon completely!

Anyway, how were the weigh ins? Hope you're all well.

OP posts:
essenceofSES · 06/03/2011 22:09

Hello!

I've not been doing so well the last couple of days. AF arrived Saturday but I knew she was on her way and felt really hormonal and depressed about it. I'm now feeling a bit better but struggling to find my motivation again. Second personal training session tomorrow and I think this one is going to be quite tough compared with last week.

CorrieQueen - you have done so well and should be so proud of yourself! What's your secret as I feel like I'm failing at the moment!

Clockface - how are you getting on?

CorrieQueen · 09/03/2011 11:32

Haha no secret I am afraid I have well and truly fell of the wagon since I last spoke! Why is it sooo hard???

I was doing so well and I have just sabbotaged myself big time this week. I don't know why I do this Sad

Anyway, how was the second training session?

I am however forcing myself to go for a bit of a run every night and still do my swimming once a week so that's got to be helping in some small way .

Not much to report here, I just had a greasy damn fry up for breakfst which was delicious but obviously has left me feeling crap and p*ssed off with myself.

DS is at nursery school at the moment but weill be picking him up at 12 and hopefully he'll keep me busy this afternoon so eating won't be an option!

Good luck to everyone. x
