I may have to cave and go back to Atkins

Since New Year I've been struggling like mad with my weight. It seems the less I eat, the more weight I put on, I just don't get it. 2 weeks ago I weight 10st 8lbs. I thought "great, I'll start dieting and might even push the 10st barrier before summer!" so what happens - I start eating around 1300 calories a day and my weight starts shooting up!! I was eating much more than that before when my weight started coming down. As of this morning I am 10st 12lbs :(

Only diet I KNOW to work is Atkins. But I hated it. It's so restrictive and I never know what to eat when I'm out - can't exactly sit there at college munching on chicken legs whilst everyone else sits down to fruit/yogurt/sandwhiches etc!

So I have two choices - do I just go back to eating more and hope I lose weight again or do I cave and go back to Dr Atkins?

(also, can anyone recommend any "Low carb" meals for taking to college? all I can think of is tuna salad!)

Why don't you stop cal. counting and go on low carb (so no wheat but ryvitas, dips etc) and the paul Mckenna.Google ICan Make You Thin it works!!!

I know 1300 cals is low but I can't lose weight on 1300. It depends on how tall you are and how old.
I lose weight on 1200 AND that 1200 has to be mostly healthy food. Lots of protein and veg and some carbs and a small treat.

What have you typically been eating? If you post it here, we may be able to advise you on food?

Don't give up. Healthy eating is soooo much better than Atkins. I've done Atkins and really couldn't go back to it.

Come and join us on thelow-carb thread- loads of recipes ont here- and lots of us aren't doing full on Atkins, eg, still eating fruit.

I take lunch to work every day and low carb lunches i've had are:

tuna mayo salad
mozarella/cheese wrapped in parma ham
butternut squash soup
Broccoli and cauliflower soup (do you have access to microwave)
crustless quiche (quiche without pastry)

I can live on a diet of 1200 calories and not lose weight. Your body goes into starvation mode. Dpending on what yu are eating you may also be holding onto water. Carbs like bread pasta etc cause water retention which interferes with what the scales tell you.

Come join us on the low carb thread - we have lots of good ideas...

I'm thinking about it too. Problem is that I can't run while I'm on it - I have no puff or stamina. And running is very important to me.

codsworth - what exercise are you doing?

Tescodiets recommended moving my limit to 1200 calories (15 totals) - once i got under 11 stone but due to the way it works it would have to be 1200 healthy calories.

I am now doing low carb (dukan) - would dukan work rather than atkins? in some ways more flexible ie can eat salad every second day and fat free yoghurt every day.

have a look at the dukan website and see if it will work for you - broadly you have 3-5 days at the start just eating low fat protein (eg meat/fish/eggs/fat free yoghurts & also oatbran) and nothing else, then you have day about protein and veggies and just protein.

i seem to be ok running/gymming on a protein breakfast. or you can make the oatbran into porridge with skimmed milk.

I've stopped losing weight on 1000 calories and I'm taking exercise Sad

I'm eating healthily with low carbs and veg/some fruit. Skimmed milk and no junk/sugar etc.

I've lost 10lbs no problem, but nothing in the last week. I need to lose about another stone.
