Slimming world or the new weight watchers?

I need to join a weight loss club, have been trying to lose weight on my own for a month and not lost anything.

I did slimming world a couple of years ago and lost a stone, then plateued. Think I got bored with it. I like having the free foods on SW, but then you soon get bored of eating muller light yoghurts or boiled eggs or whatever else you can have.

Has anyone heard anything about the new Weight Watchers? Is it good?

I haven't tried the new WW, but have done it in the past. I'm now a SW convert because I find it much easier and a lot more friendly. I've lost nearly 2 and half stone so far, so I vote for SW!

I was discussing this with my Mum this evening as she's thinking what to do. Not sure if you were at SW when they had their Extra Easy plan. Basically it combines the red and the green plan and is very easy, with lots of flexibilty and hardly any weighing. Much easier to eat out now. Lamb Rogan Josh with boiled rice is 6.5 syns, chicken chow mein is 7.

If you are happy to count everything and enjoy the feeling of control it gives you then WW. If you want to eat without weighing food then SW.

DP and I are both on WW, and are a bit undecided about what we think about the new plan so far - and, of course, almost everything that we know so far is based on rumour and speculation!

The big downside of WW is the complexity / counting / obsessing about points values; I'm a bit troubled about having to learn new ones.

Slimming World is easier / takes less time on counting etc. But we find it difficult as are lazy busy and tend to eat a lot of convenience things. And, as you say, it can get a bit tedious after a while.

I suspect there'll be a lot more info on Sunday once the online people have access to the new plan (DP goes to class / I don't - so I'm depending on him to let me have a look at it)!

Current slimming world is the old weightwatchers points in disguise. New weightwatchers plan "Pro points" is healthier and much better plan for real life. Have friends who are leaders - one SW one WW and they both agree! Grin

I do like SW for not having to count points, measure stuff out. But I also like to eat a couple of microwave type meals a week. I used to get into trouble at SW for admitting to having had a WW pizza or curry. My protests of "but its only 400 calories" used to fall on deaf ears with the leader who would glare at me and remind me that SW isn't about calorie counting.

I was at SW when there was the Easy Extra but didn't really used to do it. I need carbs for breakfast so always have 2 weetabix and as you only get one healthy extra that was it gone. So I used to do green days but then have to syn the salmon that I'd have for dinner.

A friend has just pointed out that SW is 50p cheaper. She says she goes to SW for the motivation/knows that she won't cheat if she's going to be weighed. But she actually follows WW diet and pretends to do SW!

Cakemix, I digsagree. SW is very different to the WW points and focuses more on healthy eating than not eating much at all.

SGM, do you mind me asking if you have seen a change in your losses with the new plan ? Part of me is feeling I should join up and give it a go so I have an alternative in reserve, I like to hedge my bets !

I am on the new plan but am finding the transition different and am going along SW today with a friend to find out if it is more straightforward.

CrelliFarrelli · 23/11/2010 12:19

I have lost 1.5 stones over a very long 7 months with old WW so I was very pleased but I am struggling with the new points. It doesn't take long for me to reach the 29 daily points value.
