Good Diets when Breastfeeding

I really need your help people! I want to continue to bf but genuinely I am just going to get more and more unhappy with my weight. I weighed myself this morning and lets put it this way - I would very much like to lose 21 lbs asap, I am not one of the lucky ones, I put on weight when bf and I would like to lose weight healthily and get to a reasonable starting weight to "lose" proper weight. I can see it becoming a real real problem if I am not careful but am not sure what diet to follow whilst continuing to bf.

TIA

I'm following weightwatchers at the moment and have lost all but 8lbs of my pregnancy weight (DD is 10wo).

You get an extra points allowance if you are breastfeeding which has always given me plenty of points to eat each day, but stops me from eating cake!

I'm lucky though that my appitite doesn't increase when I'm breastfeeding, if yours does slimming world may be worth looking at.

The other thing that made a difference for me was exercise, only taking DD for daily walks in the pram but my legs are already looking better.

Good luck

jamie, can I do the ww online or do I have to get to a meeting? (difficult at the moment but there we go!)
Also am desperate to get back in the gym but locally they don't take them in the creche until after 12 weeks so am signing up tomorrow and hoping they won't notice the discrepancy in age! That being said though I am so completely knackered.........

I found slimming world very good when I was breastfeeding

should really go back to it.....

Hiya, I lost 5 and a half stone whilst breastfeeding :) It can be done!! Best thing to do is to have a look on Kellymom here

Main thing is to aim for a slow and steady weightloss that will then stay off rather than a sudden loss that will (potentially)impact your supply.

I used WLR to ensure I was eating the right number of calories and to ensure a constant protien level. ( not less than 65 grams of protien per day)

KickArse - wowwwwwwwwwww, to be my ideal weight I need to lose 4 stone, but 5.1/2 would be amazing. Am off to those sites now (they say somewhere between 8.13 and 10.13 and I am 14 Blush and feel bloody horrible about it!)

Slimming World. You can even do it when you're pregnant.

KickArseQueenOfTheDamned · 25/10/2010 22:15

Spooki, I was 15 1/2 stone :) You are a stone and a half less than where I started from, so stop beating yourself up!!! And really you only need to lose 3 stone 1lb to get into you ideal zone! How old is your baby? You haven't said :)

He's 11 weeks tomorrow! And very adorable!
But feel that I would like to now be in a position to start losing the weight slowly as from next week I can leave him at the gym creche and will aim to go 2 x per week if not 3. (am not going to set myself unreaslistic goals, dh works 1.5hours away and I have 2 small children, a puppy and a cat! So evenings are a little bit more tricky - will have to do it during the day!)

Spookily - I had 3 dc, cat, dog and frequently absent dh - did ww online (for 6 mnths then needed a bit of a kick so went to meetings) - I lost 3.5 st in a year. 2 1/2 stone of that was while bfing (the easiest bit - would have carried on going for another few years so I had an excuse to eat cake but ds2 would have none of it!).

I found ww very easy to stick to, never went hungry and could feed the whole family on my meals.

Good luck and if you start now at least a stone will be gone by christmas (at 2lbs a week).
