Hiya, I did the Atkins diet, I lasted about 6 weeks....I find if you alter it a bit, it doesn't make a difference to your weight...I allowed ALL vegetables but I banned potatoes, bread, pasta, chips, snacks inc chocolate basically all crap.
The only thing is I got bored (like you)
I snacked on cooked chicken wings, cocktail sausages, hard boiled eggs, carrot sticks, BUT I made sure I ate plenty at meal time....include all your fruit just go slow on it as the sugar intake isn't too good. It's a great diet for a quick fix, but you get bored and tired!
I've now just cut out bread opting for porridge instead!

Hiya, I am about a month in and doing OK. I did Atkins once before, years ago, and had good success with it so I am feeling positive.

This time, I didn't lose any weight to speak of for the first two weeks. About five days in I did feel more energetic, my joints stopped aching and I stopped being out of breath climbing the stairs: I'd always assumed those problems were just down to the extra weight I was carrying but clearly not!

Still, I did want to start losing weight so I read the book again and realised I'd remembered wrong - I thought it was OK to have loads of nuts but it isn't!! Since then I've lost 1kg/week which seems quite good to me. I'm doing it fairly strictly, so none of the forbidden foods, but I can't be bothered to actually count carbs. I shovel in all the green veg I can manage.

I do crave crunchy things, so that has been my main challenge. Oddly, I've started really enjoying salads for the first time in my life. It has to have very fresh iceberg lettuce and some tasty dressing - my favourite is Tesco's chili infused olive oil. If I've had chili I feel "fed" because something exciting has happened in my mouth! Also for crunch, the Food Doctor Seed Mix is good on salads and just for snacking - again, I like the "Spicy" version best. Water chestnuts are OK.

The Atkins bars meet my need for chocolate.

I know what you mean about it not being a very snack-friendly diet. Instead of trying to come up with something that feels "snacky" I just have another small meal and then I don't feel deprived.

Some of my favourite foods are cooked meats such as salami, dried beef, and chicken, lots of different sorts of cheese, guacamole, eggs cooked different ways, prawns, salmon with cream cheese, tuna mayo with tomato, and homemade soups.

Have a long slow browse round the chiller and freezer cabinets of the supermarket and maybe you'll find some more inspiration. I'm giving myself permission to spend more money on food than I normally would. So even though I'm going without some foods, I'm spoiling myself with others which I never used to buy because of the expense.

I'm on my 2nd week of Atkins, and the first week I found really easy, but this week is a bit harder, because I'm getting a bit bored.

I'm not sure whether to move from Induction yet onto the Ongoing Weight Loss because I love the fact that in just shy of 2 weeks I've lost 4 kgs in weight, my joints hurt less and my clothes feel much looser. I know part of the weight loss is water weight, but I don't feel the same starvation that I have on other diets.

I started at 78.8 kg, and now I'm 74.4 so feel pretty great about that. I'm finding that I cope better if I have some nice flavoured snacks such as spicy chicken wings, and I do like soft cheese in celery, as I get a bit of a crunchy fix but it is more filling than just some salad.

I haven't counted the carbs, either, so am not so keen to move on as I know I need to start counting carbs then. But I bought the Atkins recipe book and I must say the puddings in there for OWL look very nice .... what to do!

Will probably stick to induction until I am at least 70 kgs - assume the weight loss will slow down a bit anyway, or I reach size 12 in clothing and will then progress to OWL. At least the weight loss is keeping me focussed!!!

Thanks very much everyone for your kind replies.
It's my 5th day and things do seem a little easier.Like you Saracen I have been eating nuts, I know I shouldn't but I am so used to snacking I have to have something at the desk while I am working, although I am hoping to cut that out next week. I am a spice lover as-well so perhaps I should have 2 smaller meals at work and not have the nuts Confused and the Atkins bar... i m not going there coz once i start i wont be able to stop,,perhaps when i have done it for longer.

SadMarg you have done so well!! 4 kgs in less the 2 weeks is very good.I am of similar weight to you i started at 75 kg (hoping i am less now!!) my dream is to get into a size 10/12 as i am only 5" 4"

thank you all for replying it just show's this can be done!! because it is being done by normal ppl!!

Good, I'm glad you are feeling a bit more positive!

You may have realised this already, but I've found it really important to keep well stocked up on Atkins-friendly food, and to make sure to take plenty with me when I'm away from home. It's really hard to buy something suitable when you are out and about away from a supermarket, so you always have to take your own.

Good luck!!

SadMarg · 29/09/2010 12:19

It certainly can be done, Iwanttobeskinny, its just a matter of staying motivated.

And yes, keep some friendly 'snacks' on hand!!! I'm going shopping later on today because the cupboard is empty!!!! Grin.

I have been snacking on spicy chicken wings (I know the store bought ones aren't perfect, but they're better than other things, and I have made some of my own using a soy based sauce); soft cheese in celery; some cheese squares (loving gouda!), boiled eggs, sliced cold meats. Staying well away from all root vegetables and nuts and seeds. The nuts can really derail your weight loss, so do be careful.

I made some dolma (stuffed cabbage leaves) following an Atkins recipe (and added lemon juice, forgetting I shouldn't but didn't seem to matter still lost!) which was a nice 'snack' for in between meals for a few days as well, even if it was a bit messy - if you want to make it for others you could add some cooked rice to theirs.

Seriously, it does help to pick up an Atkins recipe book. Most of my meals were just some fried/grilled meat with some vegetables on the side or stir fries but it was nice to get a bit adventurous occasionally, stopped me being bored.

Oh and Sainsbury's has some high meat sausages now, 97% meat content so I had some of those as well, yummy! A cold one was delicious as a snack mid afternoon the next day Grin.

I tried making a soya flour pancake to have as a burrito wrap and made normal burritoes for my DH, but it just tasted like an omelette to me Sad, so don't think I will try that one again in a hurry.

(Oh and 2 week weigh in: 73.9 kgs - exactly 5 kg weight loss Grin Grin Grin.)

iwanttobeskinny · 30/09/2010 18:39

How are you getting on? I'm thinking of doing this, I get bad stomach pains if I eat bread, potatoes and chips or basically any high card food. Plus I need to kick start my weight loss again, but this time my other half is supporting me 
