Has anyone lost weight on good ol' fashioned calorie controlled diet?

I've been really trying to stick to fruit, veg and low fat protein recently to loose quarter of a stone, but I'm really not in the mood for it and need some comfort food sometimes(youngest just started school etc!).

No-one seems to talk about low cal diets now though - are they worth doing? Will still aim for mainly fruit and veg etc but need odd square of chocolate or biscuit without feeling I have wrecked diet.

I lost about a stone and a half a couple of years ago through calorie counting. Didn't "ban" any foods but tried to eat mostly healthily, and stuck to about 1500 cals/day. Also exercised 4-5 times a week (aerobics and running).

Thanks Busy - that gives me hope!

Actually I'm doing more or less the same rhing now (trying to lose about 2st of baby weight, 10lbs or so to go). Focussing more on exercise this time (30 Day Shred DVD), but still sticking to 1500 cals/day as well. I keep track of how many calories I've eaten in Google calendar Blush

thing, not "rhing".
