The BBC2 programme about E numbers tested the sweeteners esp. aspartame and they found that people eat more after having "diet drinks"

For those of you who missed the show, you can see it here. Very interseting.

Yes flispaps it's fascinating I've always been allergic to the 'sugar free' E number full sweets etc.

It was interesting but.......

very small sample (so not conclusive)

and - the people who'd had a diet drink went on to consume 140 more calories than those who had a full sugar drink. surely the full sugar drink was at least 140 calories, so the next effect was negligible?

sapphireblue · 13/09/2010 15:53

I'm with you hatsy......surely they would have consumed the same number of calories overall because of the high amount in the sugary drink?

switchtvoffdosomelessboring · 13/09/2010 15:59

I'm with hatsy and sapphire - i rather have a can of diet coke AND a kitkat than just a can of coke.

ppeatfruit · 13/09/2010 21:07

True sapphire and switch but I'd rather drink something with "real" food [sugar] in it than stuff unrecognised by the body. Although I don't drink coke, it's all shxx IMO.
