I rarely need more than 2000 calories per day so perhaps average between 1500-1800 but not really sure. Once I'm full, that's it, I cannot put more food in.

Kitty1980 · 04/09/2010 15:36

What are your meals et ? Do you drink alcohol etc?

I don't drink - I did so in my youth Grin, in plentiful quantities, but not now and I don't miss it either! I tend to snack - sandwiches, crisps - but have regular food too, anything I fancy really.

maduggar · 04/09/2010 20:30

Kitty, have you ever looked at the Paul McKenna weightloss programe? He teaches you to eat "as a slim person" which involves eating whatever you fancy :) but only the quantities your body needs.

sailorsgal · 04/09/2010 21:35

I have cereal for breakfast, porridge/fruit and fibre.

Lunch, normally soup and a roll with butter or sandwich.

Dinner tonight was steak and salad. 2 glasses of red wine.

If I want a biscuit I will have one but don't usually get cravings unless pre-menstrual.

lindsell · 04/09/2010 21:51

usually toast for breakfast, sandwich or panini or salad (if I'm feeling good!) with crisps or yoghurt or something for lunch, dinner - tonight was beef stew with rice, 2 glasses of wine and a few chocolates. Often have either some biscuits or a bit of cake or bar of chocolate in the day and usually have some fruit or a smoothie at some point too. When I've done a calorie check thing usually works out at about 1600-1800. hth

2 slices of toast with marmalade or marmite for breakfast, or cereal (Shreddies, cornflakes, Just Right or weetabix) with semi skimmed milk. Glass of orange/grapefruit juice and a cup of tea (no sugar).

Lunch is a sandwich (one round ie 2 slices), either ham, tomato and mayo, or cheese and pickle, or egg mayo, or ham salad or something similar. Usually have a piece ot two of fruit and sometimes a bag of crisps. Drink water.

Dinner - really varies. Pie mash and veg, or a pasta dish, or spag bol, or chilli and rice, or a roast, or jacket potato with cheese and salad, or stir fry veg and noodles. No pudding.

In the evening I have a bag of crisps or some crackers, and sometimes some more fruit.

I drink about 2 litres of water a day and about 5 or 6 cups of tea. Have a glass of wine about once a fortnight.

Rarely snack, don't eat cakes, biscuits or chocolate at home but do eat far too many crisps. I do go to the gym and run 10-20 kms a week as well as doing weights and rowing. I am 5 foot 1 and weigh 8 stone.

wigglybeezer · 04/09/2010 22:16

I don't think its what I eat that's important its what I don't tend to eat; ie. I don't drink sugary drinks, just tea, coffee or water. Don't keep bought biscuits, cakes, sugary cereals or crisps in the cupboard (although will sometimes have a chocolate biscuit like a kitkat for pudding). Snacking on sugary things is what does the damage IMO. I do snack; on fruit, nuts, cheese and crackers or toast and peanut butter etc. I am mainly trying to keep my dodgy teeth going as long as possible but a side effect is that I also stay fairly slim.

I have gradually adjusted my portion size down a bit as I have got older, I realised that I shouldn't put the same amount on my plate as on DH's!
PS. I don't have scales in the bathroom either!

blueshoes · 04/09/2010 22:20

Too much, including snacks. It is genetic. I can get away with it, but less so now that I am getting older and in a sedentary job.

But I don't drink. No reason other than I don't enjoy it.

blueshoes · 04/09/2010 22:22

Agree with wheezy about avoiding sugary drinks. I think there are loaded with calories.

If I need to lose weight, I don't eat breakfast (against advice but it works for me), move around more (more housework!), and skip snacks, particularly after dinner.

AnxiousLand · 08/09/2010 20:49

I eat cakes, crisps, loaves of sandwiches, jars of mayo, chocs, sausage rolls/sandwiches.

I am a very slim 30 stones

lol

meltedmarsbars · 08/09/2010 20:55

There's no such thing as "naturally " slim once you get past 40 imo.

We all have to be that little bit more careful not to have the second glass of wine, the cake, chocolate, crisps, etc.

Today I had (I weigh 8 stones approx)

Small bowl Jordans Crunchie with full fat milk + cup coffee.

Shopping snack: Greggs steak bake Grin

Lunch: 1 slice toast + pate + handful tomatoes + coffee

Snack: 2 pieces home made apple cake (from apple thread here)

Dinner: Chicken + veg risotto, corn on cob, 1 crepe with golden syrup and lemon for pud.

In between that I went to optician and did some shopping then weeded allotment for the afternoon then furniture-shifted after carpet-cleaning.

Is that what you wanted to know?

minxofmancunia · 08/09/2010 21:06

I'm 5'8" and weigh 9stone, dress size 10. pre dcs I was 8-8.5stone dress size 8 but was told I was a bit "scrawny" Hmm. the only thing that's changed is having dcs, think it's slowed my metabolism right down.

I eat 2x pieces of wholegrain granary toast for breakfast with butter and marmite 2x cups of tea (no sugar) and glass of orange juice

snack ryvita with hummus or a few brazil nuts.

Lunch soup such as leek and potato or jacket spud with cottage cheese and salad, sometimes a sandwich such as veggie sausage with grilled tomato.

Evening spanish omlette with green vegetables or wholegrain pasta with lemony/tomato sauce and salad or dahl or chickpea curry/goulash or similar. maybe roated veg in pitta with halloumi salad

I always eat wholegrain never white, I'm veggie, everything is fresh never processed do not have biscuits/cakes/crisps/squash in the house.

However I drink far too much wine (prob get thru 2 bottles a week overall with more at the weekends Blush) and at the weekend i do what i like, have chip barms, cake, mars bars, crisps, curry from takeaway with nan bread et al Grin.

My downfalls are wine, butter and cheese. I do loads of exercise these days so I can eat without too much scrimping (gymx3 mix of cardio and weights, ashtanga yoga once a week, bike ride at the weekend and walk everywhere).

If i dropped the wine I'd be a skinny minnie but I just can't give it up Grin

mollyroger · 08/09/2010 21:16

a year ago I was size 6-8, had been all my life, 5 ft 6, b=never worried about what i ate and I ate a LOT.

Then I hit 40 and my metabolism left home.....

I have porridge or meusli for breakfast

veggie soup and fruit for lunch

veg-heavy dinner with fruit and a youghurt. a glass of wine.

and I am still piling on the weight :(

taokiddy · 08/09/2010 21:17

I'm 5'7" and weigh 71/2 stone so quite underweight, always have been. I have 2 slices of really thick toast with butter and marmalade and at least 2 cups of tea with sugar for breakfast. I have fruit and a cereal bar, flapjack or cake mid morning. Sandwich for lunch. Bit of choccie late afternoon. Then late dinner of chicken or fish, pasta or potatoes, salad etc. Wine every day! I do yoga at home couple of times a week and run 4/5km couple of times a week. I've got 4 young children sand work 5 days a week so am pretty active anyway. I sometimes feel embarrassed about how much i eat 'cos everyone at work always seems to be dieting but I feel absolutely awful if i'm hungry and get really snappy. Its not great to be underweight as I have to take food out with me wherever I go, and take calcium supplements as I have that Osteokenesis thing that Gwyneth Paltrow has!

deaddei · 08/09/2010 21:21

I am 50, weigh 11 stone 6 and am 6 feet tall.
It's true you have to watch what you eat aroundthe menopause, and agree that it what you DON'T eat that's important.

Breakfast- special k plus raspberries/banana

Lunch- I try and have something protein based- chicken and salad, poached eggs, or soup

Tea- depends. Sometimes I'm not hungry so I'll have cereal, or I'll have fish, chicken, pasta.

I eat loads of fruit and veg, no crisps, sweetrs, biscuits, cakes. Once a week I have chocolate.
I try not to drink Mon-Thurs- only if I go out with friends, but have a bottle over the weekend.

I run/swim.
