5' 10'', Medium build - what is a good weight/size?

I have been dieting for the last few months and have managed to lose almost 40 lbs.

I have gone from a size 18 to a size 12/14 and am wondering if I should stop here.

I have never been slim and this is definately the smallest I have been as an adult (have been able to get back into my wedding dress Smile). So, do I stop now, and be comfortable with not ever being thin, or do I keep going?

So, in a nutshell - 5' 10'' - size 12/14 and 11.5 stone - slim enough, or do I need to keep going?

Woweee!! Well done you! You sound perfect Wink No really, that is the weight i lust after being and I'm the same height as you. I slowly got down to 12.4 in June (from 15.3 the year before)and felt great (lots of stuff has happened since then but I'm working back down to it soon)
I was 11.5 in my mid twenties and felt amazing! Your BMI will be spot on too. Smile

sounds ideal to me, particularly as you are identical to me! Wink

Thank you!

I am having a real debate with myself - I would love to be a size 10/12 but really do not think that is in my make up iyswim. I was a pretty large child and have never been thin - perhaps to go lower is unrealistic? On the other hand - this weight loss has been pretty swift, and so if I put my mind to it, perhaps I could manage it?

I also think I am in danger of having too much riding on this - I see it as a way of being more confident, happier etc. The usual story.
Friends all tell me I am looking great, but I struggle to believe them - they do not see me with no clothes on Blush

you are the ideal weight for good health and vitality. better to stay there and be able to maintain it without strain.

mamaloco · 30/08/2010 13:51

your BMI is 23. so healthy. agree withinsert.

ValiumSingleton · 30/08/2010 13:53

You sound perfect. don't starve yourself so that you look good in a bikini! you'll be miserable and you'll go crazy and eat five bags of chips with mayonnaise one night.
Maintain, a very healthy and imo slim at your height 14.

Sounds perfect to me. I'm 5 9 with a fairly big build (size 9 feet). Got to 11 1/2 with slimming world 2 years ago and felt fantastic. Started at 14 .1 and it took 9 months.

I've really struggled to keep to target (yoyo between 11.5 and 12 on a monthly basis) I am currently back up to 12st 10. That's largely down to having the summer off of the gym and watching what I eat and drink. Planning to go back to sw next week and will aim to lose a stone by Xmas.

I've learnt that it's no use getting to a weight that is too hard to keep at. I've made myself as miserable trying to keep the 1/2 stone off as I ever was at my biggest.

Mahraih · 31/08/2010 21:13

I agree - 5'10 and 11 st5 seems great!

I'm a shade over 5'10 with a small/medium build and have found that beow 9stone7 just looks skinny and face looks I'll.10 -11 stone looks normal but no boobs and 11 - 11.5 looks sexy!

insertexpletive · 31/08/2010 22:35

Thanks everyone. There is one thing that I don't understand though.

If I get down to say, 10.5 and ensure that I do not overeat, how is that any more difficult to maintain than stopping now?
Is it just that the heavier I am, the more calories I can eat to maintain and the lighter I am the fewer calories that I must consume before weight gain?
Sorry, just read that back through - does that make sense?

I have had three people, at seperate times today saying things along the lines of "Insert, you know that you have lost enough weight now..."

I just have a desire to be smaller - but agree, I do love my curves Wink

this wll tell you

It is waist to height and weight - so not BMI

ValiumSingleton · 01/09/2010 07:40

wow, that's depressing for me because although my bmi is 24, with a 50% waist to height ratio I am at increased risk of...... (?)

I am small and my waist is 31" (I have lost a few inches recently too).

I think it's partly just my shape though, my hips and bust are small in comparison to my -unsexy! shape.

I am not sure I buy into this "you are tall so size 14 is slim" thing. It really depends more on build than height I think. I am tall but am quite slight (slim wrists and ankles) and I look quite hefty at anything over 11.5 stone. I have a friend who is much shorter than me, but looks fine at a heavier weight because she is broad-framed.

Your BMI is perfectly healthy, so I think then it just becomes more of a matter of personal taste as to how good you feel at what weight.
