Food Befrore and After Gym

Hi everyone - never visited here before but am looking for some advice from someone in the know.

I've started going to the gym 3 times a week in the evenings. Usually, I have dinner when I get back from work at 6pm. However, that's rather heavy on the stomach to go to the gym with. Also, I'm usually starving when I get home from the gym. Can anyone advise the best way to 'fuel up' and then keep the hunger at bay later?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
Can't say I'm an expert, but I would try eating two smaller meals, one a couple of hours before you go to the gym and the other when you return. But don't be tempted to make the two, full size portions! Alternatively I would try to find an alternative time for the gym. Good luck!

I used to find that actually, even though I thought I was starving, lunch would see me through my early evening workout and I'd soon forget the hunger pains as the agony of the workout kicked in.

I used to just have a banana or cereal bar a little while beforehand. Best to have a quick, simple dinner planned for afterwards to keep the temptation to pick at bay.

God I miss being really fit.

I agree with nanniejo, have a small meal an hour or two before you go, and then again within an hour of finishing your workout as this is when your body needs carbs and protein to help recover.
