30 Day Shred = Exercise DVD by Jillian Michaels from The Biggest Loser. V tough - but only 20 minutes a day. Challenging mixture of cardio and strength to tone and build muscles, therefore burning more calories. Combined with careful diet, should get results.

Dukan - French low carb diet with a specific structure (attack/cruise etc). Different from Atkins because of more veg (I believe) and not allowed as much fat as Atkins. Need to eat oatbran (I think!) Haven't done it myself....however have ordered the book in case I want to give it a try when I come back from holiday!

shred is the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout DVD - 3 X 20 minutes v. challenging workouts. It's interval training - you knacker yourself doing one thing, then go on to doing something equally knackering but a bit different iyswim.

Dukan - low carb low fat diet. sort of a low fat version of Atkins.

The shred is an exercise DVD called the 30 day shred. The theory is you do it once a day for 30 days, after which you are shredded (i.e. fit and buff etc).

The reason it's so popular, is it's short (20 minutes, plus brief warmup and cooldown) so you can fit it in with your day, even if you're a lone parent / SAHM. The techniques used for the exercises work nearly the entire body and use a method called muscle confusion (where you regularly change the workout so your muscles don't get used to it) to maximise fat loss and muscle tone. It is fairly hardcore, and after the first couple of days you will be walking very gingerly, but you soon get over it, and within a week, you will probably have loads more energy, and find yourself doing jumping jacks in the kitchen while waiting for the microwave to ping.

I've done the 30 day shred cycle once and got really good results (I lost half an inch on arms and calves, 2 inches on waist and an inch everywhere else). I'm having a break, then going to do the shred again. I love it.

I'll let someone else talk about the Dukan diet :)

DO YOU HAVE TO BE COORDINATED TO DO THE SHRED DVD? DO YOU NEED A BIG ROOM? WOULD SOMEONE UNHEALTHY BE ABLE TO DO IT?

notyummy · 10/08/2010 09:51

Coordination not a problem I don't think - it isn't 'dancy' so no moves to learn. Just the actual exercises that you should grasp after having seen them once I think.

Unhealthy - yes, you could do it. It is, however, fairly tough. You just need to be prepared to feel quite uncomfortable - but usually once you have got to the point of thinking 'aaaahhh this hurts!!', you then move on to the next exercise. There are easy versions of most of the exercises that one of the ladies does so you can follow them as well.

And it is only 20 minutes - that is no time at all!
