Join a club-Weight Watchers or similar. their programs are very easy to follow, and you can eat whatever you want as long as it is within your points limit. WW emphasis is healthy eating for life rather than 'diet'. The support at groups V useful to keep you motivated. Good Luck.

actually spurred on as i saw a car accident earlier....people we knew too....car had overturned, and they were all being pulled out of the windows as doors were too warped to open....they were all ok,but thought to myself 'they'd never get me out that way'!!

My advice would be to start with small changes, eg skimmed milk instead of full fat. Add a bit more exercise in to your routine by walking a bit further.

And drink lots of water.

Can you give some idea of what you eat and do in a normal day at the moment. Then people can give you some ideas of what changes will make a big impression.

Well done for taking control of your situation.

Get up and put something comfortable on and walk round the block. Time yourself. Tomorrow do it again and try to do it slightly quicker. The next day try to do it twice and so on.

Check out the couch to 5k plan (just google it). It'll get you from the couch to running 5k in ten weeks (It IS possible as I ran the 5k Race for Life yesterday and two months ago I couldn't run for 60 seconds.) I've dropped 5lbs and a whole dress size. And my wobbly bits aren't so wobbly.

Read Paul McKenna's book (the library may have it or Amazon). Eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full. Don't restrict anything but don't eat it unless you're hungry.

And set yourself some goals. I entered a 5 mile race in October and that's what I'm working towards.

Good luck and keep posting.

I don't know if you've come across it, but this is a great blog written by a woman who lost 12 and a half stone. Start at the beginning. She also wrote a book about it which should be fairly easy to get hold of.

Are you getting support from a doctor or dietitian? Seeing a dietitian is helping me to stay on track.

It might help to break it down into smaller goals - so aim for your first stone to start with.

What I eat in not great CheapHawaiian. I barely eat any fruit and veg, usually only eat left over fruit or veg from the DC. I eat really badly. e.g. loads of sugar and processed crap.

Tend to do things with the DC that don't involve me being too active such as: swimming ( can basically stand in water and watch them) - though I want to actually start swimming). Or we go to the cinema/they have playdates etc. Taking them for a walk/bike ride is my idea of hell as excess weight makes me more tired than normal and painful joints

Loads more people have answered your other thread in chat, BIGmama, as I'm sure you know!

There is lots of great advice there as well as a lot of people who are wanting to lose weight with you.

Support is really important, especially if your relationship with food is complicated. Groups such as weight watchers or slimming world can be great for this if you like the leader. I have found one who is really encouraging and supportive, but many others see every body through the door as £££ in their pocket. It can also be hard to walk into these groups alone. I found myself in the queue to weigh behind 3 size 10 women and was terrified they were judging me. Found out later they had lost 19 and a half stone between them, and were there for their monthly maintenance weigh! These are the people who really understand how we can get so big and offer practical help to others.

I am on the 23 weeks to xmas thread, but using it mainly as a maintenance aid. Xmas is a good first goal as it is far enough away to make some really big changes.

Wishing you all the best and congratulations for making the decision to change. Good luck.
