Should I really count as BFing mother for Weightwatchers?

Hiya all. Have joined Weight watchers online (can't make it to the meetings).

DS is 22 mo. Still breastfeeds at bedtime. I know it's not a foolproof indicator but if I'm not able to feed he takes approx half pint of cow milk instead. WW say that my daily allowance is 27 points because I'm a bfing mother. Have been doing it for about a fortnight. Lost 4lbs in first week and looks similar this week. Been able to manage on 23-24 points per day without any major probs/cravings. Inadvertently only ate 18 points on one day and was ravenous the next.

So:

  1. Do I really count as BFing for WW purposes?
  2. I'm veggie-quarian (eat fish) - do I have to limit the amount of oily fish I eat (it's an easy way of getting protein but I know there's something about it that I've forgotten).

TIA

  1. I wouldnt have thought so, but it sounds like you have lost wieght on what you have eaten so I would stick with what you have been doing. How many points would you be allowed if you werent brestfeeding?
  1. As long as you point the fish it shouldnt matter wieghtloss wise.

If you are losing weight on the points you are allowed as a BFing mother then stick with it. If you find you are stalling then cut a couple of points a day and see if you start losing again.

Yes - if you're exclusively BFing it's an extra 10 points, and if not it's an extra 5. That said, your DS will be getting a lot of his nutrition elsewhere now so I don't suppose it's that crucial.

I dont count bfing for WW purposes (DS2 is 18 months and bfs morning and night)

thanks all - will keep an eye on it - actually only lost 2lb this week. I'd be allowed 22 points if not bfing. Not eating loads more than that. Might aim for around 24ish as it seems to be working.

Agree that DS obviously isn't getting most of his nutrition from BFing - especially given the amount he eats! Helpful to know about the 10 points for exclusive BFing and 5 for non-exclusive - makes more sense than just a blanket amount.

6 ibs in 2 weeks is fantastic, well done. I think ww guidelines say 1-2 ibs a week so you should be really pleased
