im 42 and over the last year or so my weight has crept up. I need to lose around 2 stone but I’m finding it so difficult to stick to a sensible eating plan. When I heard the term “food noise” it was like a lightbulb went off in my mind! That is the perfect way to describe what is in my head 24/7!
Would love to hear if anyone else with a low bmi or just a little weight to lose has tried wli and whether they are worth it or not?? It’s literally in my basket online so should I check out and take the plunge or try to go it alone and ignore the food noise using good old fashioned willpower??

You will need to upload photo and ID before a pharmacist approves. I'm also with med express

whats the main reason for people choosing mounjaro over wegovy? Is it much better? I notice wegovy is cheaper

I don’t know if this is any help to you, but….

I started on MJ in January ‘25 with a BMI of 38.6. I lost consistently well, and felt really good, better than I had in a long time: perimenopause with horrible periods, issues with blood sugar etc. I switched to Wegovy in September with the price hike, and although I had almost reached my goal and did continue to lose, staying on track was much harder and I didn’t feel as well.

I’ve been at my goal for around six months now. My BMI is 20.6 and my weight is stable. I have recently switched back to MJ and am maintaining on a lower dose. Since switching back, I feel so much better. I have no issues with blood sugar, no cravings and the perimenopause symptoms have vanished. My provider will allow me to stay on a low dose for maintenance as long as my BMI does not drop below 20.

I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been (have been overweight pretty much since childhood), my blood tests, which are repeated regularly, are all now within normal ranges and my doctor is thrilled. It isn’t for everyone, but for me it has changed my life.

What it allowed me to do was make good choices without the cravings. I had a bad relationship with food, and MJ has stabilised my blood sugar, mood swings and periods to the point where I can enjoy making healthy choices without my body craving for other things. I eat well, I exercise and am enjoying life.

Just eating less and moving more didn’t work for me because of the blood sugar and associated metabolism issues. It worked for me, it’s up to you to decide if it is right for you!

Good luck 😁

I have. I also put on weight in perimenopause and was struggling to lose it. I had gone from around 62kg to 70kg. I’ve been on Mounjaro for 6 weeks and currently weigh 64kg. Like others the weight loss was pretty quick the first couple of weeks but has slowed. Although we have had a lot of ‘events’ like birthdays where it’s been hard to control the food as easily. I have click counted and only taken 1.25 each dose. Considering going up to 2.5mg to try and lose the last couple of kg.

If you want to take it then I'd say go for it. It's being legit prescribed by some pharmacies for bmi over 25 now.
Ironic that one of those is Med Express when they used to refuse to continue prescribing to people who'd lost weight and wanted to stay on it for maintenance but I guess money talks in the end.
The only thing that would make me wary if I had so little to lose is what happens when you come off it. Will you be able to come off it and maintain afterwards because I wouldn't want the expense of being on mounjaro for life just to lose a stone.

TheLette · 27/06/2026 09:27

OP don't waste your time with MedExpress. They say you are eligible, mess you around with the video consultation (for some reason their scheduling system shows a time which is 1 hour behind when the call actually happens, it's insane) and then just tell you no straight away. I was BMI 27ish. Voy accepted me. More expensive but I recommend Voy for your first dose, they have really good support and make it easy to get started. After 1 month you can move somewhere else which is cheaper.

Mounjaro is more effective, both in terms of how much weight people tend to lose and how quickly.
I went with wegovy because I was starting at BMI 26 so I didn't want/need to lose too much weight too quickly, and also because I want just enough supression for my usual healthy eating attempts to be more successful, in the hope it'll help when I come off - I don't want to be learning the habit of having to force myself to eat because of zero appetite, as some get with mj.
One other factor for me is that I can continue using oral contraception with wegovy and wouldn't have been able to with mj.

Had problems this morning. Logged onto video call early for my 9.30 appointment. No one joined the call for 10 minutes. I tried to use the online chat while waiting but it wasn’t available. Then I tried to rejoin my call but I had “missed” my time slot apparently even tho I was waiting 15 mins. Then tried to reschedule and kept getting errors (and noticed the one hour time difference as you mentioned) I’m so annoyed I’m tempted to pack the whole thing in and attempt to do it myself with a 1200 calorie diet and hope I can stick to it! Or maybe just have a go with voy if that would be easier but it’s a little more expensive with them unless I go for the wegovy as a cheaper option x

Yes their video appt system is definitely a bit annoying. I just rang them up and managed to sort it out easily that way.

Runningswanker · 27/06/2026 11:30

I went with Voy and although I found the video call a bit awkward, I have to say the process was very smooth - I didn't have to book a call slot, just had the option of 'request to join virtual waiting room' any time I wanted (within certain hours but it included weekends). I joined and it was almost instant to be connected to a clinician. Had to video myself stepping on the scales and in front of a full length mirror and brief chat about my weight history and health. Prescription arrived within 48hrs.

Mine was in April. I can't understand why they haven't sorted this madness. I won't order from them out of principle, completely wasted my time.

CCSS15 · 27/06/2026 15:52

Voy is very good and as someone said already there is a virtual waiting room so you can do it straight away - they also send you a sharps bin, anti sickness and loperamide pills with your first order - don't be scared though as its just in case - I've had nausea but it normally passes after drinking cold water

VividDeer · 28/06/2026 08:03

Go with medexpress. No frills but no video calls needed

BravasPatatas · 28/06/2026 08:18

Why does it matter? The OP is unhappy with her body and wants to lose some weight. How will knowing her body fat % change the advice given?
