GLP-1 low dose for inflammation?

BeachAndSea · 23/05/2026 12:06

Has anyone gone on a GLP-1 to try reduce inflammatory conditions in the body? I am overweight but have been too afraid to try any of these treatments because of all the risks I read about in the press. However, I have also read about joint pain going away, rosacea going away etc when people went on these GLP-1s. Do you take a lower dose? If so, does a lower dose help with weight loss? Thank you for any advice.

I lost weight on the lowest dose of 2.5mg on Mounjaro, this is meant to be the getting used to it dose, but it also worked for me, some people find weight loss doesn’t kick in until you get to higher doses. It definitely got rid of inflammation from a long standing RSI style injury. I spent most of my time on 2.5mg highest I went was 5mg. I did try 7.5mg for a couple of weeks but it didn’t agree with me. Lost 4 stone over 9 months or so.

ShrankLastWinter · 23/05/2026 14:17

What risks have you read about in the press? Might it help to look at the patient information sheet?

Anecdata, but it massively reduced inflammation for me, both plantar fasciitis and gum problems. I take 5mg now as a maintenance dose to keep my weight down and for the anti-inflammatory effects.

I went mainly on it for weightloss but also to help with inflammation from an auto immune disease.
Within 4 weeks I felt amazing - I didn’t realise how much inflammation I had till it reduced.

PearlsTeapot · 23/05/2026 17:19

I will never come off it due to the anti inflmattory properties which are only slightly secondary to weight loss. My inflammation markers in blood tests 11 months and 4.5 stone apart went from nearly 9 to under 1.

I have severe lipoedema and my legs are unrecognisable.

dodgeThePot · 23/05/2026 17:30

@PearlsTeapot wow that’s a fantastic positive for you. Which WLI are you using?
im just starting on weight loss but hoping I may get a reduction in the aches in both my legs which I’ve had a while but don’t know the cause

rivalsbinge · 23/05/2026 17:36

I’m considering it for endometriosis, but wondering what supplier to use and how much is is now? Did the prices drop back down. I could also do with shifting about 5-6kg which would be a bonus but I don’t eat high amounts anyhow.

BeachAndSea · 23/05/2026 17:44

I have plantar fasciitis too! The risks I read are pancreatic disease, thyroid cancer, etc all in the Times newspaper. I’m worried about this.

Also, are you all talking about Mounjaro?

dodgeThePot · 23/05/2026 18:00

I’ve only just started on Wegovy I only need to lose stone and half max so happy to go slow low and steady if possible. As well as inflammation reduction I’d like to lower my cholesterol which is slightly raised. I imagine results are very personalised as to the other health benefits aside from weight loss.
is there a particular dosage or is MJ or Wg best for inflammation reduction? Anyone know ?

LittleGreenDragons · 23/05/2026 18:04

I never knew this and one of the main reasons I've resisted WLI is because of having several auto immune conditions.

Interested in which particular one posters are using.

This is really interesting! I didn’t know they helped with inflammation. I’m not overweight but have chronic inflammatory conditions so would consider micro dose for that if it’s working for people.

BeachAndSea · 23/05/2026 18:23

I wonder if the reduction in inflammation is caused by the fact of losing weight.

I have tried both mounjaro and wegovy. With mounjaro my bloating, IBS symptoms, muscle and joint aches went away within days of starting in oct 24 and lasted for 15 months. I then tried wegovy in nov 25 after 4 stone weight loss and at bmi 23 and the bloating, IBS symptoms, muscle and joint aches all came back and I'd gained 3lbs of water weight. I then switched back to mounjaro in feb 26 after 3 months on it and all the symptoms went again within 3 days and I'd lost 3lbs in 2 days and a total of 6lbs that month. I was prediabetic when I started mounjaro and when I switched to wegovy it didn't control my carb or sugar cravings like mounjaro did so I would recommend mounjaro. I'm now bmi 21.8 and will most likely stay on MJ for a long time.

madroid · 23/05/2026 19:32

@Mysticmaiden what dose are you on for long-term if you don't mind me asking?

PearlsTeapot · 23/05/2026 20:07

I’m on mounjaro and the impact on my mobility and heavy painful legs improved early on before the weight loss really kicked in.

anotheruser124 · 23/05/2026 20:19

I have inflammatory conditions and on bloods always have low level inflammation and honestly ive not seen any improvement but my health has worsened in the last year anyway, so I don't know if it would have been worse without it. But for me personally, ive seen no change in this respect but ive read it helps lots of people.

I lost weight before and it did not improve any of my inflammation or pain which contributed to me gaining it all back.
Since I've been on mounjaro the massive improvement has been life changing.
So far I've done 10 weeks at 2.5mg, 42 weeks at 3.75mg and have been on 4.5mg for the last few weeks.

I didn’t word it how I wanted. I lost 3 stone calorie counting and it had no impact on my lipoedema legs at all. They didn’t change shape size or pain. As soon as I started on the mj the change occurred within a month and got better and better.

ShrankLastWinter · 23/05/2026 20:52

Mounjaro. The anti-inflammatory effects were almost immediate, long before significant weightloss.

If you read the patient information sheet, you’ll see what the known side effects and risks are. They are much lower than the effects of being very overweight. But the press likes drama.

madroid · 23/05/2026 19:32

I went all the way upto 15mg and now on 5mg, I started tapering down in sept 25 and lost ab extra stone over that time. When I got to bmi 25 the doses started feeling too strong so I had to come down and I believe it's because my insulin sensitivity increased with weight loss.

BeachAndSea · 23/05/2026 18:23

I wonder if the reduction in inflammation is caused by the fact of losing weight.

No it isn’t.

In mounjaro I lost weight and my inflammation (gut and joints) improved massively.

I then came off mounjaro and at the same weight my inflammation was back to original levels within three weeks.

It really helps so I would try it if you can afford it.

I have had zero side effects and whilst, like any drug, there are risks these have been hugely over played in the press because there is widespread anger that the supposed moral failure of being extremely fat is actually an entirely treatable medical condition and the media plays into this for clicks and circulation.

Definitelysometime · 24/05/2026 08:43

@PearlsTeapot this is so interesting. I also have Lipodema which is worsening - especially now I’ve started HRT. but don’t have bmi over 30 - does your provider take Lipodema into account or are there any that do? I’m so keen to try a v low dose to see if it helps but no idea how. I’ve tried everything else, and I don’t want to go down the surgery route if I can avoid it

Sparkletastic · 24/05/2026 08:51

Low dose Mounjaro gave me relief from IBS for the first time in years. It also helped reduced my arthritis pain. Was only on it for a few months as the price went up massively, but I’m considering going back to it. Only lost 1.5 stone but it didn’t come back on after stopping.

BeachAndSea · 24/05/2026 10:36

I’m just so scared of all the health risks - i’ve read it is linked to thyroid cancer too.

From what I’ve read there is no evidence in humans linking mounjaro to thyroid cancer.
