Do weight loss injections switch off alcohol noise?

Hello. I’m about 2 stone overweight (BMI 29) and have tried everything to lose it with no permanent success. In the last 6 months, I have lost and gained the same half stone countless times! For context, I’m 57 and menopausal.
I hate to admit it but food is not really my weakness, it’s wine! 😳🤣
Now seriously considering WLIs as an absolute last resort. I’m aware that it switches off the food noise but does it have the same effect with alcohol? I only drink at weekends but find myself undoing all my good work from during the week. It’s a vicious cycle I just can’t get out of!
My husband is also worried about the potential effects on my health. Is he justified feeling like this? I’m so torn! 😭

Dont drink alcohol but they really have reduced my desire for, and intake of, cola. Id say i literally had an addiction. Now, I can take it or leave it.

Yes, I was never a heavy drinker but I liked a glass of wine or g&t most evenings. Now I can stick to one just on a Friday or Saturday and I never feel like having a second. I still enjoy it, it’s just the cravings for it has gone totally. I don’t feel the underlying anxiety that fuelled my desire to drink (as it relaxed me) anymore. I’m much happier and more relaxed than before- that’s almost the best reason to take it.

Yes, at first it stopped the desire completely. After 10 weeks it has crept back in but I don't drink as fast or as much.

I can do without it really, it adds nothing to my life if I'm honest. It's just a habit I need to get out of and 'celebrate' or relax in a different way.

Go for it, I'm so glad I started mine.

Sadly not at all for me!

Yes it’s really turned down my interest in alcohol! And when I drink I don’t get much of a buzz from it. It’s brilliant!!

I didn't touch alcohol for the first few months on MJ - just stopped as part of the starting the jabs tbh, I told myself I wasn't going to spend all this money on WLI and then pile on empty wine calories.
Wine was also a large part of my weight gain - I drank far too much of it!
I've found I can drink now - but nowhere near as much as I used to. It also has a slightly different effect on me - like I don't get quite as drunk? I think the jabs do inhibit something - it definitely being trialled for addiction issues. It seems to affect different people in different ways though - some people seem to go off alcohol completely.

I always looked forward to wine at the weekend, but just don't fancy it anymore. Which is great in itself- no more hangovers, not feeling so anxious, and not spending on alcohol (or lunches out) is offsetting the my cost

Hi @Greenfingers37, I was in a similar situation to you, and was considering starting weight loss injections when really I wanted to curb my drinking. With a bit more digging I found out there is actually an ‘Ozempic for alcohol’. It’s called Naltrexone. I started taking it about 4 months and it’s made a huge difference to me. I have actually lost weight too, without really trying; just because I’m not drinking all those empty calories any more. It’s helped more than I could have imagined was possible, and its cheaper than weight loss jabs too.

Kazzaa46 · 06/04/2026 09:23

I had no interest in wine or alcohol for the first few months on MJ. I do now get the occasional craving for a glass of wine but it’s pretty much a small glass and I don’t want any more than that.

ViolaPlains · 06/04/2026 19:46

I wish.

RockChik · 07/04/2026 17:21

It really does differ from person to person. I drink way too much wine and also hoped MJ would put me off alcohol, and to begin with it did. Not completely but after a glass or two I just didn’t fancy any more. Sadly that effect wore off and now I’m back to drinking as much as before. The only time I drink less is when I get nausea as a SE, which happens a couple of times a week.

🤣🤣 fair enough, fill your boots!! Good luck with it. Best thing I ever did- my BMI was only just 30 when I started..just over 25 now. It’s a miracle drug. Pal of mine on it who is a big drinker has not found it’s diminished her interest in the sauce but I think she’s unusual!

But isn’t she now boozing on an empty stomach and we know that doesn’t always end well. That’s the bit I don’t get
