Mounjaro or Wegovy - which is best?!

MamaBee22 · 04/04/2026 10:42

I am around 17st so have quite a lot to loose (6/7stone ideally).

Have been thinking about weight loss injections for a while, but so much information to take it, I'm finding it hard to choose between MJ or Wegovy so would love to hear personal experiences please.

Wegovy would be much more affordable to me (could afford MJ at a push but the price difference seems crazy!) but have read it isn't as effective as Mounjaro and I'm desperate to get started and get the weight off.

Any advice would be great. Thank you.

I am on Mounjaro but started pre price increases. If I was starting now I would try wegovy simply due to the price and then you can always switch if you don’t find it effective or have lots of side effects.

TheChosenTwo · 04/04/2026 10:49

Same as @Takemeawayy ive been on MJ since October 2024 so before the price increase, I’ve found it to be incredibly effective taking me from 16st to 9st, 7st gone. I’ve maintained my weight by remaining on MJ, I’m about to titrate down the doses and see how I get on. I had insulin resistant PCOS, it seems to have properly addressed the hormonal imbalance amazingly.
it IS the more expensive of the 2 and I know people do have success on Wegovy, I’ve also read on here that quite a few people switched to WG after the price increase but didn’t find it effective so jumped back to MJ - maybe worth trying WG first and consider switching if it’s not having much of an impact.

Woo383040 · 04/04/2026 10:49

I’m pretty much the same as Takemeawayy. I started pre the Mounjaro price increase and still use Mounjaro. But if I was starting now I would try Wegovy first and see how it went, knowing I could switch to Mounjaro if it wasn’t effective for me.

SilenceInside · 04/04/2026 10:59

Objectively, and without considering cost, Mounjaro is "best" in that it showed a better result in the clinical trials than Wegovy. It also showed fewer side effects on average than Wegovy. So if cost is not an issue then I would go for Mounjaro. Realistically for many people Mounjaro will be pushing it in terms of affordability, so it would be pragmatic to consider trying Wegovy and see how you get on. Most people using it will lose significant amounts of weight and either not have side effects or have mild and manageable ones.

For either option, you can change pharmacies each order if you want to, to take advantage of each one's new customer discounts which is one way of keeping costs down.

If you haven't come across them before, you can see price comparisons and new customer discounts at https://monj.co.uk for Mounjaro and https://igovy.vo.uk for Wegovy.

MoneyJo · 04/04/2026 11:31

There's a typo in the wegovy link above. It should be this.

I looked at the options and went for MJ because I want good results.

BlakeCarrington · 04/04/2026 13:07

interesting, I’m wondering about exactly the same thing.

Im particularly concerned about the hair loss side effect. Does anyone know if one or the other are better or worse for that?

Clearingaspace · 04/04/2026 13:50

Also wondering the same! In addition to the hair side of things I am also wondering about the potential anti inflammatory benefits and adhd benefits etc I have seen mentioned. Has anyone been on both and know if they are similar ie they felt better in general on both?

MoneyJo · 04/04/2026 14:23

I haven't noticed any difference in my hair but I do really think there's been an impact on my ADHD. I've been far more productive this Easter holiday than I usually am! That's MJ - I haven't tried W.

SilenceInside · 04/04/2026 14:26

Hair loss can happen on any weight loss plan, whether using GLP1s or not. If you definitively want to do everything to avoid hair loss then you’d be looking at losing weight very slowly and not being in a large calorie deficit whilst doing so.

Hair loss, if it happens to you, is usually temporary and self resolving, after a few months.

Catcooper25uk · 05/04/2026 11:13

I'm on mounjaro started feb 2025 made my target weight in January this year and am now maintaining and staying on the maintenance dose of 5mg for life.
Now I'm in maintenance though I only do my pen every 2 weeks so that saves me having to buy the pen every month.
Also what you have to understand is mounjaro is a GLP1 and a GIP receptor. Wegovy is only 1 of those things so not as effective as mounjaro.
I am in a lot of weightloss support groups and a lot of people that went over to Wegovy when the price increased have now come back over to mounjaro as they said they weren't seeing the same results as they were on mounjaro. You've got to weigh up the pros and cons of both because it is an expensive treatment but its also an effective treatment ao its whether its worth it to you as everyone has different priorities in life.
If you do want to start on mounjaro or wegovy I can send you a link for £100 off your 1st pen with the pharmacy I am with just inbox me. Also i have a health amd wellness page documenting my weightloss journey on tiktok as well if you ever wanted so safe hints and tips.
For any and all info feel free to inbox me and whatever you decide to do good luck on your journey.

Mounjaro is more effective but if you started on Wegovy you'd not know there was a difference, if that makes sense.

The common downsides of injections such as hair loss and risk of pancreatitis are caused by rapid weight loss and not the drug itself. Best advice is to not be one if those people trying to lose 4 stone in 3 months but do it more slowly.

Flowers898989 · 05/04/2026 11:27

I take MJ. I was 17 stone Jan 25 and I am now 9 stone 12. I vote MJ !

Iamthemoom · 05/04/2026 11:31

Mounjaro. By about 100%. I lost nothing and felt awful on Wegovy. I lost 4 stone on Mounjaro with no significant side affects.

Same advice here

ACR7 · 05/04/2026 11:32

I started with mj and lost about 4 stone without much effort. I came off it at goal weight. I didn’t put weight back on but it was sooo much harder. Decided to try Wegovy to help maintain. For me it’s nowhere near as effective be as mj. It’s working but using much more willpower than I needed with MJ so contemplating my next move

Daisypod · 05/04/2026 11:35

I started on Mounjaro and it worked very well although I did get some side effects of a dodgy stomach if I wasn’t careful what I ate. I did also have hair loss but that’s from the rapid weight loss rather than the mounjaro.
i switched to wegovy when the price increased and I don’t find it as good, it still works but no where near as strong. I lost 8 stone in 18 months on Mounjaro and only about 7lbs on wegovy in 5 months, but I am almost at goal weight and bmi of 25.
if money wasn’t a consideration I’d go back to Mounjaro as I generally found it better all round.

frecklejuice · 05/04/2026 11:35

I was 16st and lost 4st on Mounjaro, I then stopped because the side effects were killing me (severe all day nausea and heartburn/sulphur burps). I then put on 2 stone so now I’m 14stone. I couldn’t afford to go back onto MJ after the increase so I’m on Wegovy, 12 weeks in and I’ve lost zero weight! I cant tell the difference between being on it and off of it. I wish I could afford MJ.

coffeealwayscoffee · 05/04/2026 11:48

I’ve done both. In 3 days I will have been on WLI for a year.

For the first 9 months I was on mounjaro (max. dose 7.5mg) and then switched to wegovy with the price increase (one week 1.7mg then 2.4mg since).

Started at 16st 12lbs and now 12st 2lbs, a wonderful 4st 10lbs down (and could do with another 2st off!).

It’s been a slow and relatively steady journey and certainly not the consistent 3/4lb per week losses I was seeing on TikTok!

I’ve run the numbers through ChatGPT and on mounjaro my average weekly weight loss was 1.5lbs and wegovy so far has been 1.06lbs.

To me the difference has been negligible however, I will say that the food noise has been more prevalent on wegovy but clearly hasn’t made a huge difference to my weight loss.

Good luck with whatever you decide, the injections really are life changing!

Sparklywino23 · 05/04/2026 11:53

I started on MJ and then moved to Wegovy after the price increases and I can comfortably say MJ was the much more successful option.

For me, MJ turned off the hunger and that food noise so there was just no want to snack. Wegovy turns off the hunger but not the food noise for me, which could be argued as a good thing as when I come off i will have been used to applying the will power.

The big feature for me was also the positive impact MJ had on my ibs, it was game changing to not have to think about my many many food triggers and apparently its down to how it slows down the food digestion process, ie feel fuller for longer. Wegovy does this maybe a little but not like MJ.

I am considering a switch back if im honest to MJ, I dont have a lot to go after a 5 stone loss but its been a much longer process on Wegovy.

That being said, I know 2x people who started on wegovy and its been very very successful for them. So I think whatever you start with is how you continue. Most people who ive spoken to have said the switch from 1 to the other just hasn't worked for them (and i think half my office are on these jabs..)

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Ive been on both monjaro i instantly felt the inflammation and pain go also helped with adhd . Im on wegovy now but its not helped with inflammation or pain or adhd but that might be as its at a lower dose than monjaro. Weight wise ive lost a stone on weg and only on 4th week at lowest dose on monjaro it took .2 mths to lose that and that was with hardly eating then I started putting weight on with 5 mg dose. Side effects on both had headache first day after jabs on mo jaro vision was bit bury and had hair loss not had these on wegovy but do feel bit sick time to time .

LokiDoki75 · 05/04/2026 11:57

I was on MJ but had an allergic reaction so had to stop using it. I was able to switch to Wegovy and am still losing weight but it’s slower, which isn’t a bad thing. I was over 21 stone when I started last July and I’ve lost 7 stone so far. I’ve been lucky in that, apart from the reaction, I barely had any side effects until recently and that’s passed now. I found Gin Gin Ginger chews and Myrtle and Maud Queasy Bon Bon’s really good for dealing with any nausea. Also, keep your fluid levels up, I’ve found it’s quite easy to get dehydrated without really noticing. Hope that helps!

Can I jump on the £100 off offer, or can you only offer it to one person? If so totally understand.

I’m on WG. I’ve lost 3.5 stone since October. Two dress sizes and my BMI has reduced by 8. It’s been slow and steady, but it does mean that I haven’t got baggy skin and hair is still in place.

I have had a few bouts of nausea, but very little in terms of side effects. Some sulphur burps if I eat something silly or over eat. The decrease in food noise is interesting.

I’m really happy either way my progress and the way I’m starting to look.

Also wondering the same! In addition to the hair side of things I am also wondering about the potential anti inflammatory benefits and adhd benefits etc I have seen mentioned. Has anyone been on both and know if they are similar ie they felt better in general on both?

I used MJ for just over a year (I have insulin resistant PCOS and ADHD) and the mental clarity it gave me was incredible. I just felt like I could get stuff done and everything just felt so clear. I can’t even explain it, I was wondering whether it was just quietened food noise but I just felt so efficient while I was taking it. I would love to go back on it just for that.
I’m 30 and I’ve also never, ever had a regular period, always 60+ day cycle and extremely heavy and painful whenever they did show up (even when I was smaller size 8/10 about 8 years ago, I wasn’t always overweight) but since taking MJ, I have a regular period 33-35 day cycle like clockwork which has blown my mind to be honest. It feels miraculous with how rough I’ve had it with periods over the years.
For about 2 years before I started it as well, I would get incredibly achy joints, for example, had to sleep with a pillow between my knees just to get to sleep, legs always felt heavy, sore and lethargic. All stopped since taking MJ which enabled me to take up running and ran my first 1/2 marathon.

I lost 3 & 1/2 stone. (13st7lbs to 10st when I stopped) I think I’ve been off it for around 8 months now and I’m sitting between 10 & 1/2stone - 11st. So have gained some weight back but feel comfortable.
Weight loss aside it has given me some amazing other benefits.

Although I was lucky to have hit my goal weight just as the prices increased, I am continually gutted that I couldn’t carry on taking it for maintenance. I just can’t afford it at the new prices. Obviously this is just my story and every body reacts differently but it had such great outcomes for me. There is a study I read somewhere but I can’t find the link - they are trialling MJ use for inflammatory arthritises and other conditions. I will edit and update if I can find the link
