I've been on mounjaro for 5 weeks this friday. I've lost over a stone so far. I don't know the exact lbs lost because I have ovulation bloating but it's definitely over a stone. (I'm often 5-7lb heavier during ovulation and period).

Anyway, I'm back to work on Thursday after nearly 2 weeks annual leave. I'll be seeing some people who I haven't seen for 5 weeks + because we're shift workers.

One of the biggest changes is my face - I still get a shock every time I look in the mirror.

I've always struggled with body image, from about the age of 12 when I certainly was not overweight 🙄

I'm losing weight for a few reasons, health being the main one but also to potentially start IVF if needed. It's all a bit overwhelming and I'm just dreading the questions starting!

Any tips from those who have already been through that stage?

It might take longer than you think to get any comments. People are not very observant I have found. It took about a 5 stone loss before I got my first comments about it. Maybe it's more noticeable if you have less weight to lose.

If you don't want to discuss weight loss, just answer with closed answers and then change the topic of conversation. If someone says "you've lost weight!" just say, "yes I have" and then ask them something about themselves. If they say "you look great", again just say thank you, or "that's kind of you to say" and then change the topic of conversation. If they are persistent and want to ask specific questions about how you've lost weight, or why, I just say something along the lines of discussing weight loss is a bit dull, and then move the conversation on. If necessary, if they are very persistent, you might have to say that it's not something that you want to talk about.

IsThisLifeNow · 31/03/2026 10:21

Be prepared for no-one to mention it. Sorry, but nowadays not everyone comments abd I wouldn't want you to get disappointed.

I've lost 75kg on mounjaro, from a size 26 to a 14, nearly half my bodyweight, and I've got a group of friends that haven't actually mentioned my weighloss at all. They've mentioned my increased fitness, as it's relevant to the sport we play together, but it actually amuses me now that noones brought it up!

GiveMeWordGames · 31/03/2026 10:22

I think you may be overestimating how likely you are to get comments at this stage. In my experience - and I've seen it echoed by others on this board - it takes more like 3+ stone before people really start to notice and, if they're going to - comment. Also these days people are naturally wary of commenting on others' weight.

Not dissimilar to you, as a freelancer I work with people who I may not see for months at a time. I started MJ in March last year and by September I was 4 stone down. I worked with some people who I hadn't seen in 6 months. Nothing was said. By November I was closer to 5 stone off and then I got a couple of comments.

My Mum first said something when I was about 3 stone down, mostly checking I wasn't quietly dying of something!!!

I just say I've changed my diet, am watching calories etc and working out more if I don't want to say I'm on the jabs. It's true, anyway.

Notmymarmosets · 31/03/2026 10:25

I've had one comment in two years!

Willowy2 · 31/03/2026 10:30

Alot of people don't comment on weight loss these days. I've lost 5 and half stone and only 1 or 2 commented over the last 2 years and I much prefer it that way. I also only see my colleagues in person once or twice a year due to being a national cloud based company, so it definitely would have been noticeable from one Christmas to the next!

So if you don't get comments don't be surprised but also if you do just smile and say yes I have and move the conversation on if you don't want to talk about it.

Honestly I find weigtloss discussions so dull and I say this as someone who has been a chronic dieter over the years... it's just boring!

aredrosegrewup · 31/03/2026 10:32

Thanks everyone so far! Hopefully there'll not be too much discussion. The only thing is, I'm a nurse and have you met nurses? 😂

I think I'll just go down the route of short answers.

Nobody knows I'm taking the jabs yet and I would like to be honest about them. But I'm just nervous!

I’ve lost over 9st and the only people outside of family/close friends who have said anything are my hairdresser, the Evri delivery guy and one male colleague in India who saw me in a zoom room and pinged “Wings, you have lost the weight!” 😳

Nobody at work in the office has said a word, they are a very politically correct bunch.

Be prepared that nobody will comment, but also if you mention the jabs they may be completely disinterested/glaze over as you talk about them, it is very easy to become engrossed in them ourselves but most people find them boring.

Spaghettion · 31/03/2026 11:19

I’ve been taking Mounjaro since the beginning of December and I’m almost 3 stone down and only 2 people have commented.
I’ve openly told people I’m taking Mounjaro and some people are really judgemental about it, god knows why because it doesn’t affect them in the slightest.

bec81 · 31/03/2026 11:33

Was away with my very good friends this weekend, sonevof whom i haven't seen in about 10 kilos (or 2 months). Most of them commented in a pretty matter of fact way that I had lost weight, and all said how well I was looking. They know ive been working out more and I told them Im restricting my cals to 1200 per day, both of which are true. Didn't need to go into any more detail.
Outside of that, a few colleagues and friends have noted that I've lost weight and ive just agreed and said im working hard at it

madcatters · 31/03/2026 12:23

What was your start weight? I stared at 20 stone and it took at least 3.5 stone for it to be noticeable. I know it’s far less of your start weight is lower but I wouldn’t expect many comments after losing a stone and a bit tbh.

What kind of tips are you looking for? I think you either be honest or say you don’t want to talk about it, whichever camp you fall into. I would never discuss my weight loss with colleagues and would be happy to shut them down for raising it.

twilightcafe · 31/03/2026 12:40

Close family noticed once I'd lost about a stone. It took a loss of 2.5 stone for other people to notice there is something different about me.

14st 12 was my starting weight. It's my face, it's extremely noticeable for some reason. We wear uniforms as well which always makes it more noticeable I think.

I dont know if anyone else here is a nurse but these things dont go unnoticed for some reason. I think it's because of how closely we work together for 13 hours at a time, we get changed in front of each other, we very quickly pick up on each others habits such as what we eat and when and everything about me has changed massively in the past 5 weeks.

I'm probably overthinking it but I just know what they're like. I probably just need to own it.

Probably a mix of jealousy and fat phobia even if they don't realise it.

It took about 3 stone before anyone noticed, I( started at 12,) or commented, I don't tend to discuss it because I don't find it interesting myself, and yes even though I don't I've had the judgement, are any of your colleagues taking mounjaro? You could perhaps seek them out if so, it helps to have alliances. If not, be prepared for the bitchiness, I'm afraid, it really does bring out the worst in some women.

Teaandwater · 31/03/2026 14:54

I've had one comment from a parent at playgroup who I see once a week. No family or friends have mentioned it, well apart from my DH.

PearlsTeapot · 31/03/2026 16:28

I got loads of comments from the 5 stone mark but I was very fat (22 stone) so it didn't really show too much before then.

I'm always open about being on the jabs and have had nothing but positivity in response from everyone I've talked to about them.

Notsosweetcaroline · 31/03/2026 16:36

Very few people notice a stone lost other than the person qho has lost it. They may think you look a bit slimmer but I would be very surprised if they think it’s as drastic as you think. Did they notice on the way up then, is that it?

PinkArt · 31/03/2026 16:37

Another one saying prepare yourself for no comments as much as for comments! I started back at a company recently and was 6.5 stone heavier when I was last there in 2024. Only one person has commented and her first comment was about my hair being different, not my weight! My lovely post lady has said something very complimentary, my hairdresser too but she knew I was using mounjaro as we had to have the shedding hair conversation and she's been hearing it a lot.
Mostly though, crickets. It's refreshing as I'm one of those people who hears 'you'e lost weight, you look great' and hears 'because you looked fucking awful before when you were a big fat fattie'.

morbidcuriosity · 31/03/2026 16:38

I started 18 and half stone. First comment was about 15 stone, then they flooded in at 14 stone. Been just under 11 stone now since September and they have finally stopped.. think people used to it now.

RoyalPenguin · 31/03/2026 16:41

Personally I would be open about being on the jabs. It's harder to bring it up later on if you haven't said it from the beginning.

RinielUrban · 31/03/2026 16:43

I’ve lost 30 lbs not on the jabs but lost anyway and no one has said anything apart from my partner especially when he puts his arms round my waist. No one else has said anything yet

Notsosweetcaroline · 31/03/2026 16:51

I was about the 2 stone mark when everyone and their dog started commenting.

MotherTuckinGenius · 31/03/2026 17:00

Nobody knows I’m on Mounjaro cos it’s non of their bloody business. Nobody commented until I was around 12.5 stone (started at 15 stone 3lb) and anyone who asks how I’ve done it is told I’m strictly counting calories and moving more (true). I’m now 9 stone and comments have largely tapered off thank God!
