I’ve only gone and bloody done my 1st jab how long did it take for side effects start?

mounjaroatlast · 01/04/2026 19:08

I am starting on 20 April, have delayed it just to get past a couple of important things, in case of any side effects. Only just got told on Monday this week that my doctor could prescribe it for me.

I cried because this could be life changing for me.

creamcheeseandlox · 01/04/2026 19:24

Hello. I am joining too. I have had my jab in the fridge for a week but doing it tonight to coincide with weekend over Indulgence. I am a shortie at 5ft2 and currently weigh 11.7 stone. Want to loose 2.5 stone. Have gone for wegovy for price mainly but also less side effects apparently. Oh well we will see how it goes. My husband knows but not my teens.

Fordy33 · 01/04/2026 19:32

@mounjaroatlast how did you get GP to prescribe, I have asked 4 times and it’s always been a no. Even though I fit all the criteria, overweight, diabetic, high cholesterol, high blood pressure all of which I have to take medication.
best of luck to everyone starting this journey x

I’m going private through an on-line pharmacy. A lot of people are, I think.

What did your GP say was the reason for saying no?

LWestYorks · 01/04/2026 21:58

My order is getting delivered tomorrow eeeek - should I start over the weekend or enjoy Easter and start on Monday? (I’m off work next week too)

HELPPPP 😀

illsendansostotheworld · 01/04/2026 22:45

Aaarrgghh got a friend coming in the morning and she has just text me to say she is bringing cakes - how do I not eat it without offending her?

Last year I was told no, this week the nurse said the criteria had changed in March, rolled out into our area and gp could prescribe. It was a bit of a shock

ive got

T2 diabetes
high blood pressure
hiatus hernia
acid reflux
gallstones

I’m 22 stone so BMI is very high too

Just have one, eat it slowly, drink water and track it so you know how many calories you have left today ☺️.

@WappityWabbit can I increase my dose on week 3 to 5mg I have no appetite suppression at all?

You’re not really meant to increase until you’ve taken the full 4 doses of the current pen as it does build up in your system. You get max benefit about 24hrs after jabbing then it gradually reduces over the following 6 days.

Take a look at the GLP plotter website. It gives you a good visual of how much MJ is in your system during the week between jabs. (I’ve added a photo but it might take a while for Mumsnet approval.) You’ll see that although you’ve injected 2.5mg, by the third week, about 24hrs after your next injection, you have over 3.5mg MJ in your system.

Well you could go private.

But it sounds like you have complex health issues, and with further discussions with the NHS you might be able to proceed - and proceed more safely - without having to pay yourself. So I think you need to understand your NHS GP's reasons: Ask for a clear explanation. GPs may refuse if they lack sufficient information, or if they think it would be unsafe for some reason -- perhaps due to other medication you take, or your medical history? Or if they think that it would not be effective (would lifestyle changes be implemented and maintained after treatment?)
Then

  • Request a Second Opinion: Ask to see another GP within the same practice.
  • Speak to the Practice Manager: File an internal complaint with the Practice Manager, who can review the decision.
  • Change GP Practice: If the situation is not resolved, you could register with a new GP surgery.
  • Contact the Integrated Care Board (ICB): If you are not satisfied, contact your local ICB (or Health Board in Scotland/Wales) to register a complaint.
  • Contact Healthwatch or PALS: Reach out to Healthwatch or your local Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) for support in navigating the system.

Not really I felt a bit ropey this morning but apart from that I’m ok I’m at the seaside aswell so normally I would be having donuts chippy etc but I’ve walked past them all and I normally crave fizzy pop but I’m just drinking water and a couple of cups of tea

Sounds like a plan but I recommend starting the following day after you’ve digested that meal if you’re planning to eat a biggish roast type dinner with pudding, alcohol, etc.?

If you eat smaller portions on the day you jab (low carb and low fat) then I feel there’s less risk of having adverse side effects. (I’m not a medical expert, just an MJ user of 7 months)

Monday it is then!

Mounjarome · 02/04/2026 22:30

Hi can I join please I’ve just taken my second dose of 2.5 tonight. I switched after 3 weeks on wegovy and it didn’t do anything for me. I previously took only one injection of Mounjaro in 2024 but was too scared to carry on as the appetite suppression was extreme. I was barely eating 500 cals a day.
this time the supression is very light and I can easily eat but get fuller more quickly.
im 5ft 2 and 74.5kg goal is 58kg

didldidi · 03/04/2026 09:38

So..morning after update. Slight nausea which has gotten better with eating and a dull headache. Reckon I will probably just eat little and often today and plenty of water.

LWestYorks · 03/04/2026 09:40

Thanks for the update @didldidi mine arrived yesterday, I’m going to do my first dose Sunday however I am TERRIFIED!!!

Is it the injection itself or the side effects?

NorthDevonBeachLover · 03/04/2026 12:35

I have a headache today too, no nausea.
