Practical things to buy before starting weight loss injections

Is there anything you recommend getting ahead of time to be prepared for ahead of starting the jab? I'm taking the person I care for to B&M/Home Bargains tomorrow, and I realised it might be an opportunity to get anything that might be handy for starting just after Easter? (aiming to start Easter Monday when there's not a 4-day bank holiday weekend starting the day or so after I receive the jab, providing they get okayed this coming week)

I'm assuming decent freezer/fridge-proof pots, measuring spoons, and decent food scales are a given, but is there anything else you suggest? Thank you! :)

Decent weighing scales ( the ones that show your fat % ) indigestion tablets ( lots of people get it ) multivitamins , a blanket for evenings , you will feel cold !

MoneyJo · 29/03/2026 15:17

I can't think of anything I've needed other than good bathroom scales and kitchen scales, which I had anyway, and multivitamins.
I also got the Shotsy app but B&M don't sell that 😊

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 29/03/2026 15:18

Pepto bismol, ibd relief peppermint capsules, Imodium, hydration tablets…

in the event off common side effects these will see you right.

in terms of foods, high fibre, low sugar , low your and high protein.

good set of digital scales.

Booksandcheese · 29/03/2026 15:21

I found ginger tea really helped with calming my nausea.

Iydrd · 29/03/2026 15:22

Loo roll

Daerring · 29/03/2026 15:24

It depends on how you're approaching the weight loss, if prepping then yes you'll benefit from the pots with lids, I use those for prepping chia and yogurt pots for breakfast /brunch, if you're talking about food, I buy the skinny bars, and the skinny vanilla coffee shot, which I also use in my fage 5%, they also have liquid vitamin shots which I like, and yes pepto bismol and a big blanket because you will be freezing cold, even in summer.

morbidcuriosity · 29/03/2026 15:27

I wouldn't get too much as you dont know what you will need or want. But scales yes if you dont have any at home would be good.
Ive only needed a mild laxative, laxido but only 6 months in I needed that.

tnorfotkcab · 29/03/2026 15:28

I don't think you actually need anything. Just good quality and nutritious food.

letshavetea · 29/03/2026 15:30

Gaviscon chewables - had awful indigestion to start. Never get it now.

EducatingEater · 29/03/2026 15:33

Thank you all! :) I have already bought a really good set of scales that I got as part of an Amazon lightning deal earlier in the month when I reached the point of 'ffs!' for the final (I hope!) time at myself.

Spent more on them than any scales I've ever bought in my life because of what it said it did haha! I've had to set them up to do the initial application for the jabs, but I will need to work out how to do the actual app and body fat percentage stuff. (Runstar Scales for Body Weight, bathroom Scale with 8-in-1 VA Display, High Precision weighing Scale for Body Weight Heart Rate BMI Body Fat 22 Body Composition Sync APP, - according to Amazon - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0DG511JDK?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1).

I'd like to be organised as possible as I'm a 24/7 carer with few opportunities to leave the house at the moment and I do reach the point in the day where I am so exhausted that I tend to live on easy to put in the oven stuff and junk which is how I've got in the position I am - the vicious circle of 'I hurt, I have no energy... here's the crap 'reward' to eat in front of the TV! No more! I want to prep earlier when I have more energy and less pain!

I weirdly look forward to being cold too, hopefully, as i have a medical condition where my body overreacts and I sweat profusely at even low amounts of exertion. It's part of the reason I went Monjaro over Wegovy because there's unscientific evidence in the community for my condition that Tirzepatide has actually reduced or actually 'cured' the condition whilst people are on it (though I'm realistic it doesn't work for all). There are only 3 other medicines prescribed off-label for it, which in themselves only work because they have been found to be a side effect in other problems and 2 didn't work for me and 1 only did for a few months before I became immune so hopefully this will be the one!

I've got some 0carb/0cal electrolyte tablets as well as some multivitamins ahead of time that include the minerals too and a Stanley like cup with a funny sticker on to motivate me to keep it on hand around the house to drink lots of water (need to up that as an off!)

Love the toilet roll suggestion too, haha! Will get some of the softeners/senna/immodium just incase so they're on hand too - and look at the app!

Appreciate the heads up so much - thanks all! There's only so much going in now from all the books I've been trying to read but no real practical suggestions for what helps in them!

Dumbbells? Unless you have gym access.

nailslikeknives · 29/03/2026 17:08

Collagen capsules and biotin tablets. Take them from the get go to help prevent hair loss and stimulate regrowth if you do lose some hair.

putthehamsterbackinitscage · 29/03/2026 17:19

If you want easy food to put in the oven, chicken breasts…. Marinade, wrap in bacon etc…. Dead easy and little effort…

AxolotlEars · 29/03/2026 17:46

I haven't needed any of the suggestions. Best advice I was given was to give your injection late in the evening

Daerring · 29/03/2026 17:54

@EducatingEater if you're talking about an autoimmune issue, it helped me massively with regards to inflammation, I've also heard of it clearing up ibs. You hopefully won't have a craving to eat rubbish in front of the telly, if it works for you, you will just eat and not want to overeat or snack, that's what I used to do, crisps chocolate etc. Although I do have a couple of squares if I feel like it now.

ThirdStorm · 29/03/2026 18:13

Psyllium husk capsules along with a multivitamin.

Notsosweetcaroline · 29/03/2026 18:17

Don’t take electrolytes unless very unwell with the runs or vomiting, it’s a social media trend thays very damaging snd can cause you to have some excesses in your system ie potassium.

i think for me

ginger capsules in case of nausea
a good water bottle as you need 3 litres a day
a good multi vitamin
psylium husk capsule, for fibre,

I also like clear protein drinks to ensure I get my protein in.

extra needles and sterile wipes.

DBatteryBand · 29/03/2026 18:41

Save your money for buying an entire new wardrobe. The only thing I haven't had to replace is my socks.

livsummer · 29/03/2026 20:35

Pepto bismol, rennies, peppermint tea, physillum husk capsules. Trust me on the pepto bismol. You might not need it but you’ll be thankful if you do.

livsummer · 29/03/2026 20:36

Oh! And if you’re anything like me and got reactions every week from the injections, antihistamine tablets and hydrocortisone cream

Notsosweetcaroline · 29/03/2026 20:38

livsummer · 29/03/2026 20:36

Oh! And if you’re anything like me and got reactions every week from the injections, antihistamine tablets and hydrocortisone cream

Yes this is an important one.

HeidiLite · 29/03/2026 20:43

Oodie, as you will be cold.
Gym membership if you don't have one, you want to keep your muscle mass.
I had trouble eating enough protein the early days, so some protein shakes or similar.

SilenceInside · 29/03/2026 20:55

I wouldn’t spend any money up front before you know how you get on with it. You might well end up with a bunch of stuff you don’t need.

EducatingEater · 29/03/2026 21:14

Thank you all, I appreciate you taking the time to help. I understand those saying not to get too much ahead of time, but my shopping time is also limited through my caring responsibilities, and although I can get Amazon Prime things - I still have to wait 24 hours or so for them, so it helps to have the hints of the things like Pepto Bismol/Imodium, etc. Things like that I might not need - but will at some point/the person I care for may at some point so they won't be wasted.

I once had my (now too big) knickers fall down under a maxi dress. So smaller knickers? 😆
