Has someone had a new 'no bonus dose pen' or not?

The thread about it was deleted - see screenshot. What does that mean? Was the poster pretending? Mistaken? I am confused

It was a fake. I spotted that the pic was copied from someone in Sweden's post. The new pens are not in the UK yet, you can bet there'll be dozens of posts about them when they finally land here.

ShawnaMacallister · 24/02/2026 04:38

Thank you! What a strange thing to do

There's some very sad people about. Can you imagine having nothing better to do than messing with people you don't know, on an anonymous website? It's all rather pathetic, isn't it?

GoldieLookingBoots · 24/02/2026 22:34

Wow! I’ve been so worried about that since seeing the posts at the weekend. Turns out it was just scaremongering!

morbidcuriosity · 24/02/2026 22:37

Im honestly not worrying till I see millions of threads about it.. im sure as soon as they dispatched here there will be thread after thread about it.. so when I see the odd one, I just ignore..

Brightlittlecanary · 25/02/2026 07:16

That’s the second thread I’ve seen where someone faked it and lied.

It has to be one of the saddest things, imagine sitting at home and deciding to start a fake thread that the new pens are out. Wonder if it was two different posters or the same one.

i can only assume envy is at its root.

PearlsTeapot · 25/02/2026 19:27

It was a wake up call to me not to trust everyone on the internet because the poster was regular on my group thread and trustworthy I’d thought/assumed. She didn’t seem to be a troll in any way.

lesson learnt for me!

The pens are definitely out in Europe but I’ve not seen any here yet, or on Reddit.

These meds have really brought out the worst in some people. It’s envy at its core. They want them and can’t access them, either due to cost, body weight or contraindications,

so many people are messed up about weight, I never understood the scale of it till these drugs came out. From the judgemental attitude, to the lying, to the scaremongering, all down to jealousy.

Agreed.
I think a lot of thin people are furious that they won’t have so many fat people to look down on any more.

HereIGoOnceMore · 26/02/2026 08:52

I think some people like to be the first. Whether it’s Mumsnet threads, other social media or day-to-day life generally. I’m not sure if it’s strictly trolling or more attention seeking, but agree it’s annoying.

As PP have said, if/when it does happen, I’m sure there will be a flurry of posts.

This is just speculation on my part, but although Lilly would like to stop us using a 5th dose, they are presumably also looking at their market share. I imagine they are affected by price rises in favour of Wegovy and will soon see a further impact when tablet versions become available privately.

With something like 2 million people using GLPs in the UK, I am sure their profits are still humongous, but they might also make a careful calculation about not pushing people towards cheaper products.

Interesting point.

I'm at maintenance now and have stayed on MJ for convenience really. The cost per dose v Wegovy isn't significant once the bonus dose is factored in. So I've not bothered. As and when that changes, it may give me the kick up the arse to change over. Wegovy being potentially a bit less effective is no problem and may work to my advantage. Though knowing my luck I'd end up being one of the ones it works better for and have to switch back to the more expensive option to maintain!

HereIGoOnceMore · 26/02/2026 12:06

@CommonlyKnownAs that’s exactly where I am. I’m also choosing to stick with MJ as a maintenance option - for now - but if the cost per dose increases with smaller pens then I am likely to look again at alternative products. As the choice of alternatives grows, people will opt for the product that works best for them and their budget.

Dontfearthe · 26/02/2026 14:45

I was not the OP on that thread but I did post a pic of the pen I had received on Saturday. Someone pointed out to me that mine looked pretty much the same as the ones we had always had. (honestly when I opened my package I thought it looked different!).
Anyway, I had said that I would take a pic of my new pen beside an unopened one as a comparison and post it.
When I came back to do so, the thread had been deleted.
I can confirm that the new pen I received is indeed the same as my unopened one so panic over (for now!).
I can post the comparison pic if I'm allowed, if anyone wants to see it.

Me too, if I’m honest, I can afford to stay on if it moves to 4 doses, but I don’t like feeling gouged and that would cause me to either move or stop.

Sure, but looking at the very many threads of people attacking there is also a lot of fat people who can’t access them and are furious others can. It’s really not just thin people.

LadyClumber · 26/02/2026 14:53

I had my maintenance call with a doctor from Swift Dr. this morning. She said the new design pens have NOT been distributed to the UK yet.

Interestingly, she also mentioned that the manufacturer is looking at ways to re-design the pen so people can’t microdose - although she expects that will take a year or two to come to the market. Hopefully, there will be more cost effective alternatives at that point!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 26/02/2026 15:03

My last pen was the new bonus dose free pen, but I'm in Sweden not the UK. There is still some extra liquid at the end but not a full dose. This was mine after taking the 4th dose.

If you look closely you can see a dose sized black spacer behind the plunger. The starting position of the plunger is now at the old second dose point. So they've removed the first dose and made the bonus dose the 4th dose.

It looks like there's still around a third of dose left over.

Has someone had a new 'no bonus dose pen' or not?

Oh yes - they need to give up that idea or they will engineer themselves out of the market.

I don't know - how many people actually take non-standard doses? I know it's fairly popular on here and places like Reddit, but I imagine (and I might be wrong) that a much higher percentage of people just take it as prescribed.

HereIGoOnceMore · 26/02/2026 16:20

I take a lower dose every 5 days which is the half-life of the drug. The manufacturers went for weekly dosing for licensing, as there is a higher likelihood of people forgetting their dose with a five day schedule. However, only taking it every 7 days means that the concentration within the bloodstream is lower by day 6/7. This isn’t a problem with higher doses, but people wanting to stick to a lower dose or struggling with side effects might find that a lower, more frequent schedule works better for them.

Edited

My guess is people mostly take it as prescribed when losing. Maintenance is a different one, because the sweet spot for any given person might not be found in 2.5 increments.

IncessantNameChanger · 26/02/2026 23:48

I'm still loosing so not maintainable yet. I'm doing 7.5 from a 15mg pen. Sometimes it's 5mg. It saves me 50% of the normal cost more or less.

The fall is exponential from day 1. By day 5 it is reducing more slowly, it’s those early days when it’s falling the most rapidly. It’s still at a quarter of the starting point after 10 days.
For tapering down, this is a good reason to take smaller doses every 7 days rather than a regular dose but less frequently though.

HereIGoOnceMore · 28/02/2026 15:31

But the key point about half life is that is when 50% of the drug is left. For Mounjaro in most people, that typically takes 5 days. By taking a smaller dose every 5 days, your levels don’t drop as low as if you wait the extra 2 days, so a lower dose can keep you within the therapeutic range whilst avoiding the side effects of higher doses.

At the end of the day it’s personal preference, but for me, it’s suited me to go with a low, but effective regime.

Don't you still need to.order every month or so otherwise they will think you have a gap in treatment? I'm taking 12.5 from a 15 pen but still order every 5-6 weeks and it's been ok so far but I wouldn't risk a longer gap personally
