For how long do you envisage yourself being on Mounjaro?

Indefinitely, I would say. It feels a bit like a crutch and I’m scared of putting all the weight back on. Even if it’s a low dose, I’d feel better knowing it’s there. You?

long Term unless I feel something better comes out.

I want all the health benefits ie improved cardio liver and kidney health, reduced cancers, reduced inflammation, the anti aging effect on our insides, the insulin and blood sugar management and of course to live my life slim and healthy and not have to worry about my weight and live my life dieting and feeling deprived.

SilenceInside · 04/02/2026 19:23

I’ve been on it for 18 months or so now, it will be another 3 to 6 months to get to target. I would like to stay on it for another 6 months probably whilst reducing my dose and seeing how well I can manage. I’d like to come off it if I can, but I won’t allow any significant weight regain so it will be a case of try it and see.

Springtimewillbespringing · 04/02/2026 19:55

On a GPL type drug until I’m very old. New GPL are coming on the market including mounjaro in tablet form which should be cheaper as they’re is no need for the cold chain.

PearlTeapot · 04/02/2026 20:08

Forever in some form or another! For me it's worth it for the anti inflammatory aspects alone, as someone with severe lipoedema the reduction in inflammation has been life changing.

Plus I NEVER ever want to regain what I've lost. I'd be heartbroken. So if forever is what it takes then so be it.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/02/2026 20:14

Been on it 19 months, hit normal bmi last month and planning to maintain there on a lose dose of Mounjaro (currently 3mg or below) for at least 6 months, probably longer, but will review as I go. Open to staying on it long term if necessary. I am in my mid-late 50s and for my health I cannot return to severe obesity again, this time it needs to stay off.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 04/02/2026 20:17

I expect to be on a low dose for life. The blood sugar and inflammation control are so important I’d want to be on it even if it wasn’t for the weight loss benefits.

AgnesMcDoo · 04/02/2026 20:20

Forever probably

if it wasn’t for mj then I’d have been on diabetes and high bp medication forever instead

Dublassie · 04/02/2026 20:26

Forever , for me ! I didn't have much to lose - just a few stone. But have grappled with ot for 40 years . Not going back to that if I can help it .
Would love a cheaper alternative though. Its even dearer here in Dublin than it is in the UK.

CaffeinatedMum · 04/02/2026 20:31

Going to go against the grain here and say just a few months. I don’t want to get to my ‘perfect’ weight because I know I can’t maintain it. I may want to try and conceive another child. I want to give myself the chance of keeping it off without needing weekly medication. That said I open to staying on it for life if no other way, I’d just like to give it a go myself first.

OneThirdLess · 04/02/2026 20:31

Long term for me too. I've been on it 18 months now and while I do plan to come off at some point - maybe in a year or so - because I feel I owe it to myself to try, realistically I think I'm a 'lifer' and will go back on it (or whatever the new equivalent is).

There's the other benefits on health too - decreased inflammation, improved blood sugar control, potentially decreased risk for Alzheimer's and so on.

I might feel differently if I was half my age, but 50 is fast approaching and so I want to do everything to keep me healthy.

Gingercar · 04/02/2026 20:33

Three more months, because I have three more pens. I won’t be at target, I’ll have 1.5 stones to go, but I’ll go it alone from there. I have very little suppression anyway and I’m still hungry on it, so I’ve had to use a lot of willpower anyway these past 8 months.

CaffeinatedMum · 04/02/2026 20:36

@Gingercar same as me really, I’ve not been eating super low calories or had high suppression, I’m intrigued to see how I manage it alone when off them.

Woo383040 · 05/02/2026 07:18

I’m just at target. Ideally I’d like a couple of extra kilos off, but now I’m titrating down very very slowly until I get to the point where I maintain. Whether that’s a long term low dose, or I manage to come off completely only time will tell. But for me staying where I’ve got to, just inside healthy bmi is my long term goal.

Tammy214 · 05/02/2026 08:55

I initially thought 4 months when planning, but now am on it, looking at 6ish months. losing weight isnt as linear as i thought with the drug and since tiredness kicked in i havent been able to do the walking and gym classes. so i have changed projections, I am not looking to work my way down, i might have the last dose on 5 not any high dosage i am on, but i will come off in a 'whip off my bandaid' way, with a buffer of a stone for that.
I qill also spend the MJ monthly money on a PT to keep me motivated

I’m in C.Cork and I buy mine from a pharmacy in NI who post it down via DPD. It’s well wrapped and with special freezer packs so it’s still very cold when it arrives.

My GP prescribes my MJ and I post the prescription up to them. They’ve been very reliable and obviously much cheaper than my local pharmacy.

PM me if you want the details. ☺️

Re: answer to OP’s question. I’m 60 so I expect to stay on it or something similar for life probably. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m on the highest dose and still don’t get full suppression, so I know how you feel. I could go out and eat a 3 course meal right now. I’ve relied on willpower and making good choices BUT Mounjaro does dim the food noise in my head (which was constant before).
I really do hope the prices do come down in whatever form, because I’m in this for the long haul. I’d rather have Mounjaro in my life than not. Any other diet, I’ve put it all back on. I’m too old for that shit now.
I forgot about those of you who get other health benefits from Mounjaro and not only weight loss. Brilliant!

I intend to come off, although not quite as quickly as I first planned. I've been on six months, and would like to lose another half or full stone. I've stayed on 2.5 mg the whole time, and I no longer get appetite suppression. I'm still losing roughly 1 lb a week. I'm hoping I can manage without. I will micro dose for two or three months after I reach target though. It's mainly the cost aspect for me, as my current opinion is that the benefits of staying on for life outweigh any potential risks for those who need them.

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 05/02/2026 16:15

My plan was about a year. 8-9 months to lose the weight then 3-4 months to titrate back down. I’ve done 6months so far and lost 3 stone with about 1 more to go so am about on track. But it’s a movable feast and I’ll keep reassessing as I go.
I will possibly go back on for some time to cover end of Nov and dec and beg of January as know that may be a hard time for me.

This is pretty much me. I've been on 3.3 mg for some months now and losing a pound each week. I'm about 9 lbs from my goal, although I'm quite happy where I am.

I don't know what I thought when I started other than I had almost 4 stone to lose.

I've read a lot about reverse dieting when looking to maintain on or off Mounjaro so will definitely try that route and see where I end up. I've also had other benefits such as much less joint pain, particularly in my fingers, hips and knees. If I need a small dose in the long-term that will be fine with me.

Deadringer · 05/02/2026 16:53

I can't afford to stay on it indefinitely. I lose weight painfully slowly so its been a very slow plod, I only have a stone left to lose but I expect it to take at least another few months. After that i will hopefully phase it out slowly. I am scared of putting the weight back on but I will do my absolute best not to.

Deadringer · 05/02/2026 16:55

I intend to keep using nutracheck or a similar app though for at least a year after goal, and possibly forever, to help me stay on track.

Poshjock · 05/02/2026 17:06

I have no idea, honestly. I got up to 7.5 (although I wish I didn't rush up the doses and should have parked at 5mg) and I hit my goal weight after being on it for exactly 1 year. The weight loss slowed down significantly from 6mo onward but there was still a slow gentle loss and a reasonble amount of supression to the point that I couldn't finish a big plate or even have two substantial meals in a day. My plan is to move back to 5ml (waiting for pen delivery now), and see how I get on over a few months with a desire to get down to 2.5ml. I don't anticipate coming off until after summer at least, if I stop at all. It depends on what other products become available and their cost - if it's sustainable I will stay on. Otherwise I will try coming off completely but if the noise starts again I will go straight back on.

reluctantbrit · 05/02/2026 19:03

I am halfway through to goal in 6 months. Still on 5mg as I find it surpresses enough but still gives me the feeling that I need to think about what I eat and making healthy choices.

I hope to get to goal around autumn and plan to be on a maintenance dose for at least one more year and we see what happens then.

letshavetea · 06/02/2026 07:34

I’m planning to stay on it. I can’t go back to how I was before Mounjaro and the weight loss. I know I’d put it back on as I’m a slow loser due to hypothyroidism.I’m almost at target and then will go on maintenance with my provider.

Binus · 07/02/2026 22:51

Indefinitely.

I'm at goal and currently working out titration.
