MedExpress suddenly rejecting due to "SCR check" having failed

I have been ordering Mounjaro from MedExpress with no issues since March last year and done really well on it. However, today I have ordered my next pen and it says I have been rejected due to the "SCR check" having failed? What does this actually mean? Nothing medical has changed at all and I am now going to have to go without a pen for the foreseeable future while I try to sort it out, the online agent wasn't super helpful and said he would send it back to the clinician team l to re-evaluate but I have already had my payment refunded so no idea how that will work!

Any advice on what to do would be very appreciated!

It’s probably that your GP hasn’t provided them with information or they’ve told MedExpress not to prescribe for some reason (have you hit target etc?). SCR is summary care record so it’ll almost certainly be the GP not MedExpress to blame.

SilenceInside · 21/01/2026 19:23

SCR might be your NHS summary care record. If they’ve recently checked your consultation notes with your NHS record then maybe there’s a contraindication or issue they have found. They probably have to show that they’ve actually checked peoples details so they don’t fail their GPhC inspection. Even existing patients.

Argh. Just not got a clue how to fix the issue at all! I'm hoping to hear from them via email in the next couple of days as to what the issue is but I can't think why the GP wouldn't share my records with them when they definitely have before.

This happened to me earlier this month. There was an old prescription for gliclizide in my notes. They told me to contact my GP, which I did, but I also switched over to Cloud Pharmacy because I was annoyed with medexpress.

Overtheatlantic · 21/01/2026 19:26

SCR is a national database of medical records I think?

Did you have any issues getting it prescribed after that? I have no real confidence I will be able to resolve the issue with MedExpress so I might have to consider switching too.

OMG I have just heard back from them, it says there is a record of an eating disorder that I had in 2010 (!). I assume this is when I was under psychiatric treatment due to post natal depression and was eating a lot to cope with how I was feeling. I have been told I won't be allowed to continue treatment with them. I am so upset. This was 16 years ago! I don't ever remember even being diagnosed with 'binge eating' disorder.

They seem to be hugely tightening up on prescribing.
Can you move to another provider?

Won’t I just be denied again though? I never had an eating disorder to begin with and had no idea this was on my records!

Just move to another provider.

MidWayThruJanuary · 21/01/2026 19:54

Can you see your records yourself?

I imagine I could, but I’m not disputing it is on my record as I was diagnosed with a few things that year (by the same Dr), but it was all post natal depression in the end. I don’t see how changing provider would help if they are going to be checking the same records. I’m so upset, I’m nowhere near my target yet and this is the only thing that has ever worked due to my limited mobility.

Me to another provider. Voy prescribe for me no issues, despite me having an unspecified ‘eating disorder’ on my records from when I was 16 for a couple of months. One provider wouldn’t prescribe because of that halistory and another as well as Voy (sorry can’t remember who now) did also prescribe.

@SaunteringDownwards I’ve had similar recently but with Numan. I’ve been taking MJ since March last year and have reduced my BMI from 52.6 to 31.9 in that time. Since the price rises in August I’ve swapped provider every month chasing deals no problem. This month I applied to Numan, was refused and asked for further details. Apparently because I have a medical history of an overdose (over 10 years ago) despite not even having taken anti-depressants since before Covid they wouldn’t prescribe. I tried Bolt Pharmacy instead; ordered Monday, approved same day and delivered today. Try another pharmacy.

I have tried bolt but panicked when asked if I had a history of ED and put a historic diagnosis that doesn't reflect current health. I doubt they will even read this and will probably just be refused outright. The only real solution is to just not disclose I suppose but that worries me too.

Pharmulous are likely to be a better option. Arrange to speak with them. They're GP led. I believe you were advised of this on another SM platform earlier today.

GiveMeWordGames · 22/01/2026 07:52

If you're anxious about persuading another online pharmacy, there's always the option of using a local independent one and having a face to face appointment. It might be slightly more pricey than online as you don't get the referral and discount codes.

This could be a good idea I will definitely look in to it.

I can imagine how frustrating it is but it’s good they are tightening up. My friend with historical EDs lied to get some and was plunged back into anorexia and was gravely ill from kidney infections, collapsed etc. It’s rife in the ED community.

SilenceInside · 22/01/2026 09:18

I am sure you will be able to sort something out @SaunteringDownwards . The online pharmacies that are doctor led might be the best bet. I have found Swift to be pretty good, and they might be able to prescribe once you've explained your history to them. Or a local pharmacy as the PP has suggested.

SaunteringDownwards · 22/01/2026 10:54

I have had an email from Bolt who at least sent me an email allowing me to explain rather than just refusing me outright, so fingers crossed!

SaunteringDownwards · 22/01/2026 12:43

Update - I went through Bolt and was transparent about everything via email and my treatment with them has been APPROVED! I am so relieved!
