BMI 27 with slightly “too high” cholesterol - anyone else get accepted for a weight loss jab with similar criteria?

Hello 👋🏻
I recently had a private “Health MOT” which concluded that I am in the 27 BMI bracket with a cholesterol level just above 5mmol/l which is classed as “too high” and wondered if a WLJ would be an option for me. Has anyone here been accepted on similar grounds? I’m not sure if it’s too much of a stretch to be considered and don’t want to go through questionnaires and make payments if I’ll just be rejected. I don’t want to waste anybody’s time.
Also, because this was done privately, it’s not on my medical record so how would I “prove” this to an online pharmacy? Do they only consider NHS records as proof or do they accept private documentation too?

I am wary of posting this as I know it can be a touchy subject and that a BMI of 27 is not considered high to some people. I do not mean to offend or upset anyone.
I’m fully aware that I could “eat less, move more” but sometimes it’s not that simple.

I haven’t even decided if a WLJ is the way to go for me, I just wanted to establish if it’s a possible option giving that I’m just scraping it with BMI and slightly high cholesterol. Anyone have similar criteria that got accepted?

Thank you if you made it to the end of my waffle! 🙏

Yes, BMI 28 and a couple of health issues, prescribed through Voy.

InstantRegret · 16/01/2026 19:58

Thank you for your response @StrongGirlsLift 🙏 What sort of proof did you have to send them? From what I have read on these forums it’s a full length photo and photo of you on the scales?
Did you opt for Mounjaro or Wegovy if you don’t mind me asking?

Hi, sure. It’s going well for me and I was grateful to posters here for sharing their stories too! I think a photo, my weight, and I filled in a couple on online forms. I was offered WeGovy, which I was happy with. I’m 7 weeks in, 10lbs down, no major side effects, and hopeful that I’ll keep losing until I’m at a healthy BMI. I’m about to go up to 1mg which might be high enough for me. We’ll see.

There are referral codes from various providers and you can see a full price comparison on the monj and igovy sites often linked on here. I’m doing 3 months on Voy then I’ll review the ongoing costs.

Yes BMI of 27 here with mild asthma and slightly high cholesterol. Went with Pharmulous and sent them a picture of my inhaler box and a screen shot of the cholesterol results. They wanted a full length photo but didn’t need any proof of weight. I’m taking Mounjaro, and am 11lb down in 5 weeks.

DappledOliveGroves · 16/01/2026 20:15

Yes. BMI of (just) 28 (after a full day of eating and shaving a cm off my height) with long-standing back issues (albeit not connected to weight at all). I got my prescription through Voy with no issue. I also (around that time) learned I had raised cholesterol (but had already started the jab by then so never mentioned it).

18 months later I’ve lost 3 stone, have stayed on a 5mg dose and continue to stay at my goal weight.

InstantRegret · 16/01/2026 20:24

@StrongGirlsLift wow that’s amazing! You’ve done so well in such a short space of time 👏
Thank you for the info, that’s really helpful.
I haven’t even ventured into the Mounjaro vs Wegovy territory yet as I find it too overwhelming! 🫣 I think my biggest fear is suffering with side effects and not knowing how the jabs impact health long term. On the other hand I look in the mirror and don’t even recognise myself 😕 and being overweight isn’t good for my health either! 🤦‍♀️ I need to lose at least 2st but 3 would be the dream!

@ViciousChicken wow, well done! 👏 Ok, I’ve not heard of that pharmacy, I’ll look into it, thank you ☺️
What made you choose Mounjaro over Wegovy if you don’t mind me asking?

Thank you! Remember that these meds have been prescribed for diabetes for around 20 years now - there are long term studies.

There are some lovely support threads here. Most people are coping fine at least on lower doses so long as they drink water, eat clean, don’t drink too much etc. I can’t speak to the higher doses obviously!

I had a lot of reasons to take the plunge, but long term health management is one of them, with some hereditary concerns. Being overweight puts me at a lot more risk of some fairly brutal stuff.

@DappledOliveGroves Wow impressive! 👏 Are you glad you took the plunge? Has your bad back improved?
Was that using Mounjaro?

DappledOliveGroves · 16/01/2026 20:39

@InstantRegret my back has been screwed for decades so has had no discernible impact! But my cholesterol dropped and is now totally normal. That’s all from Mounjaro.
I’m so glad I took the plunge! I hate the insatiable cravings and food noise and I love being in control of what I eat.

Yes, you’re right - perhaps I’m overthinking it too much 🤔
It sounds like you’ve made the right decision for you 😊
Have you found Wegovy has cut out the food noise? Or sugar cravings? I’m coming to realise that I have a genuine addiction to sugar which is an ongoing battle and is making me feel terrible in lots of ways 😵‍💫

Sounds amazing @DappledOliveGroves I can’t even imagine a day without food noise at the moment!

StrongGirlsLift · 16/01/2026 20:56

Yep, amazing food noise suppression so far (a little less at the end of each week), almost no interest in sugar or heavy carbs for weeks. I’m serving smaller meals and often not interested in finishing them. It’s such a blessing. My biggest difficulty was finishing work and feeling wrecked and exhausted and just inhaling a few hundred calories before dinner to try to make myself feel better. I haven’t done that once.

just drinks lots and lots of water!

InstantRegret · 16/01/2026 21:02

@StrongGirlsLift this all sounds great! Thank you so much for all the info!

Yes BMI of 27 and I think 5.3 cholesterol, no problems being prescribed.

InstantRegret · 16/01/2026 21:16

Who was that through @Rainbowchicken?

OP posts:
Hotfirewood · 16/01/2026 21:27

I was prescribed MJ by Cloud Pharmacy. BMI 28 and taking HRT (they count perimenopause as a condition)

InstantRegret · 16/01/2026 21:34

Thank you @Hotfirewood I shall look into Cloud Pharmacy 👍🏻
Any side effects for you?

Sorry it was through Medexpress for the first pen.

I used monj.uk to choose a pharmacy that had low-ish prices, not just introductory offers, but also one that would still prescribe when I got to a lower bmi. I had a colleague who had side effects with wegovy which put me off. I know you can (and I have!*) side effects with mounjaro too. I also just decided to go for Mounjaro as it has 2 modes of action as opposed to wegovy’s one so figured it had more chance of working. I do think it’s bloody magic though. Food noise gone, and I get full pretty quickly.
*constipation, indigestion and dry mouth but I think it’s worth it.

InstantRegret · 16/01/2026 22:35

@ViciousChicken it does sound like magic! Thank you for responding.

I’m going to do as much research as I can and then see which pharmacy will prescribe to me 🙏

I sound v similar to you and just got prescribed with CheqUp - first jab tomorrow!

InstantRegret · 16/01/2026 23:03

@LittlePickleHead Good to know! What was the process/what proof did you have to provide?

OP posts:
LittlePickleHead · 17/01/2026 08:05

@InstantRegretWeight, height, tick box of additional conditions, then photo. No proof of raised cholesterol needed (though I had it ready if needed)
