Before Christmas, I had been doing so well. 5 1/2 stone off, looking and feeling great. Well, mostly feeling great, other than menopausal aches and pains.
However since Christmas, it’s been a different story. Disappointingly back to my old ways. I am jabbed up (15mg!) but it seems to have had no impact this past week. And zero side effects. It’s like I’ve unconsciously given myself permission to fall off the wagon.
I’ve eaten biscuits, chocolates, full meals, you name it. Thankfully I’m not much of a drinker and I don’t like cheese - such a blessing! 😆
The killer has been having stuff in the house that I wouldn’t normally have. I’m really disappointed in myself. I thought I had changed more than I actually have.

Bare in mind if you haven’t used MJ for over 2 weeks you will have to start from the beginning 2.5mg

Yes I’d was on 2.5. I’d never gone higher than 5 anyway.

crumbssonmyface · 05/01/2026 15:00

one of the things that mj has really helped me with is perspective. I don’t at all mean this in a condescending way at all btw, I was always that person that was constantly yo yo dieting and would freak out after Christmas! (just to give you context). But the truth is, we’re just living normal life. Sometimes we’re naturally going to eat more - like Christmas and holidays, or when it’s cold weather - and that’s absolutely ok! Have I gained a few pounds over the last month? Absolutely! But it’s ok, it will come off naturally as you get back into it. The thing that helps me so much is rather than trying to eat as little as possible, is to give myself permission to eat proper meals AND snacks at first, and then slowly wean myself off the snacks. Rather than it be a punishment if you get me. You know you’ve got this, don’t worry too much, with normal routines coming back in, you’ll be losing weight again in no time at all!! :) x

Mounjaroversary · 05/01/2026 15:12

I got my goal weight last Christmas and was careful about eating.
This year I did splurge, but I know what I need to do to get rid of those few pounds I've gained, I need to get through the withdrawals first which will take a few days, but after that I'll be back on track
Sometimes you just need to enjoy yourself, and get back on the train after!

Redlightbulb · 05/01/2026 18:26

This was my 2nd Christmas on MJ & I pretty much maintained. I ate a few extra things but reigned it in as I still have 2 stone to go to get to goal & I knew that once I started eating a lot of rubbish I wouldn't stop & regret any gain come Jan.
That's not to say I feel high & mighty.. Next Christmas I will splurge as I should be in maintenance.
The important thing is to get back on track ASAP & I am sure you will do so.
Don't beat yourself up. This time next month most if not all of the weight gain will probably be gone.
Get the left over crap out of the house.

I'm the same! It's like it's stopped working, I'm on 7.5 and feel hungrier than ever. I've only been on It for 3 months and was doing well with 2.5st lost, another 3.5 to go though and the last 2 jabs I've felt haven't worked as well.

only thing to do it push through it and refuse any more sweets, biscuits etc as we have loads in the house still and I can't stop at one!

If you have any unopened tins or packets send them to a food bank, you don’t need them and they are just unnecessary temptation at this point.

take a few days to eat lots of protein, fibre and good fats and that should be enough to stave off the carb cravings while also keeping you full. Drink loads of water to re-hydrate as sweets, carbs and salt dehydrate you and cause you to retain water.

This will pass and you’ll be back into the swing of it by this time next week and seeing losses on the scale again.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 05/01/2026 20:26

High sugar and fat treats are addictive, that’s the reality.

Im not on WLI’s but I have lost 4 and a half stone in the last year by intermittent fasting and overhauling my diet. I focus on high protein, low upf whole foods.

I used to live on sweets and crisps so this is a huge change. I fell off the wagon one night shift at work and it was like a monster within me was awakened, one mini muffin lead to several and a whole load of custard creams. I felt like an addict and it was then I realised I am always going to have to keep some control!

That was about 9 months into my diet!

I survived Christmas by managing the treats I had and still focusing on low upf most of the time. I had chocolate but dark stuff, that kind of thing. I had a lovely time and really don’t feel I missed out.

A saying I heard a lot is that it’s what you eat between new years and Christmas that matters rather than what you eat between Christmas and new year. For some that can work I’m sure. I just don’t trust myself to be able to get back on it.

Onwards and upwards, a few days of health and wellbeing focused food and you will feel great.

Sloelydoesit · 05/01/2026 20:36

I confess to buying the reduced Christmas chocolate in the co-op. However I was good at Christmas. I need to move up to 10mg so hoping in a few weeks that will help.

I have been struggling in the cold months. I'm a massive meat and salad fan but it's just not the same in the cold weather!

narcASD · 05/01/2026 21:19

@InfoSecInTheCity Thank you, I've definitely dropped the protein, fibre and water over the Christmas season , today I've drunk much more water and resisted the leftovers, I gave my lovely neighbour a pack of shortbread and all that's left now are things I don't like!

@Doyouthinktheyknowthat's amazing to lose so much, i was the same as you, lived off junk and I am a sugar addict, your right, I need to resit completely like I did before as I turn into a binging monster.

@SloelydoesitI am moving up to 10 next week after my last 7.5 this Friday, after that I want to try and stop using the jabs as can't afford it much longer. I started them as was so fat and just couldn't motivate myself at all to even start, it's been fantastic to have them but affordability is a worry now.

Somethingsnapped · 06/01/2026 19:12

See it as a re-feed week to give your metabolisms a boost! I've read lots of people on these boards saying that if they have a few days of eating more, they then seem to lose weight well in the following days once they get back to the diet, having a bit of a whoosh. This is all anecdotal of course, but lots of posters have noticed the same thing.

I didn't weigh myself for a week over Christmas. I weighed myself today for the first time in two weeks. I'd lost 3lbs. I think it's likely I maintained over Christmas, and then had a bit of a whoosh afterwards.

ShawnaMacallister · 06/01/2026 19:14

Get rid of the food - get it all gone from the house. You can absolutely get back on track after a few days of conscious eating - you're undoing all the effects of Mounjaro right now by eating carbs and sugar in excess but it will work again when you get that under control.

narcASD · 06/01/2026 20:42

yesterday I was good, today I've been good, not made the best choices but better than the last few weeks, also exercised yesterday and today, definitely do t want to go backwards.

Disturbia81 · 07/01/2026 10:56

Sometimes we have to let the beast out so we can concentrate fully on the next chunk of time of making healthy choices.

ManyPigeons · 07/01/2026 11:36

It’s likely because the Christmas indulgence set off cravings and sugar pathways. You need to abstain from sugary things and high fat things to hopefully bring it back into line

Ive not lost weight over Xmas but haven’t gained any. DH keeps all the crap in his cupboard which I never open… he’s 6ft and 9st 😂 bastard

TorturedParentsDepartment · 07/01/2026 11:57

I've maintained (and I'm at a similar level of weight loss to OP) but I've been in a bit of a shitter of a plateau for a good couple of months anyway and I'm just seeing if my body resolves whatever's going on when I track carefully or if I need to change more things - financially I'd struggle to go up another dose but if I have to I'll have to find the cash, or if I need to readjust calorie levels or something.

Every plateau I’ve had when I’ve really stopped and assessed my habits has been down to water and sleep. Upping both of those has resulted in the weight loss starting again.

It's absolutely the sugar setting off cravings in my case. It's so damn hard not to have any when it's all just sitting around (and I can't throw it out, because it's family chocolate/treats and the family want some too).

I am trying to keep myself busy so I don't see it as often, otherwise it will shout at me to eat it. Nailing the wheels back on this wagon is tough!

Isn’t it so shitty when it’s always women having to hold back and control ourselves when everyone else merrily tucks in without a second thought.

What do you mean by everyone else. Men? I don’t know any men who do that, most are health conscious in my circles. If not men, do you mean children , that’s all that’s left, and mostly their parents don’t permit that either,

I don’t recognise what you’re saying. Most men just eat what they want without a thought or a worry if they put some lbs on, and yes kids too. It’s mostly women who worry about these things and have to hold back.
No point arguing, it’s fact that women diet far more and worry about appearance more. Look at all the threads on here, weight loss groups, what female friendship groups chat about..

I mean there are probably as many women who don’t hold back and don’t care to as there are health conscious men.

In my friends/family, I'd say the men are just as health conscious as the women. Some are not. Some eat what they like but both men and women.

Of those that are more health conscious both men and women are careful what they eat. To be fair, in that group none are overweight and never have been.

I do think that society is more accepting of fat men than fat women though. It's the same with looking older, more scruffy etc. Which annoys me.

meatyryvita · 09/01/2026 09:37

The time of year, the sweet things in the kitchen, the lack of routine, it's all bound to bugger up progress but the key thing is that getting back into a routine will be the thing that helps. I put on just over 1.5lbs during the Christmas period (goodness knows what I used to pile on) by really enjoying cake, bread and bits of cheese. I was still tracking but was over my normal limit by 1-200 calories for a while and I was rubbish with water and protein. My only saving grace, I think, was that we went on more and longer dog walks and so I countered some of the changes.

It's perfectly normal to put a bit of weight on at Christmas, that's what 'normal' people often do and look, here you are, having lost over 5 stone, and you're going to snap back with a bit of focus.
