Before Christmas, I had been doing so well. 5 1/2 stone off, looking and feeling great. Well, mostly feeling great, other than menopausal aches and pains.
However since Christmas, it’s been a different story. Disappointingly back to my old ways. I am jabbed up (15mg!) but it seems to have had no impact this past week. And zero side effects. It’s like I’ve unconsciously given myself permission to fall off the wagon.
I’ve eaten biscuits, chocolates, full meals, you name it. Thankfully I’m not much of a drinker and I don’t like cheese - such a blessing! 😆
The killer has been having stuff in the house that I wouldn’t normally have. I’m really disappointed in myself. I thought I had changed more than I actually have.

I find I just cant do things like xmas right now so I stayed at home on my own. That did the trick but I still had to contend with chocolate and biscuits everywhere at work. Just awful.

I felt like this last year and so wasn't surprised this year. Mounjaro hasn't (for me) changed my preference for sweet things and when delicious food is there, I will eat it. I have eaten less than I would have done in years past, though. I've lost 5 1/2 stone too, and while I've put on a few pounds, I am focusing on the fact that losing a few lbs will be easier than losing 5 1/2 stone again!

Now it's Jan and the delicious treats are all gone, I can focus a bit better on getting back to healthy eating. What's working for me so far is making sure I have the nutritious stuff first, before I eat anything crappy. Calorie dense carbs and junk food definitely make me crave more of the same so just trying to wean off them now. Good luck! It's definitely a reminder that weight loss and maintenance is a life long journey.

SpringIsComingSoonFolks · 04/01/2026 19:58

Op you can do it! You’ve lost over 5stone that’s incredible. Everyone lapses over xmas. Chuck all the crap out and get back on the wagon. Go to the gym. Eat loads of protein. You’ve got this 🙌🙌🙌

Thanks all! x

I’ve put on a little bit but I’m sure it will come off again when I get back to normal habits. I actually think it is good to have a break from being super strict. Having said that I do agree that I seem to have been able to eat a lot more than normal over Xmas and it’s a bit worrying! But normality should mean it comes of easily
unlike past years when the weight piled on and never went away!!

InfoSecInTheCity · 04/01/2026 21:13

It’s the sweets and carbs that do it, they are delicious for a start but also they make you hungry and cause you to want more and more. Give yourself a day window to eat as much food as you need to not feel hungry BUT everything has to be low carb, high protein high fibre, good fats. During that 3 days don’t worry too much about calories or deficit just use it to wait out the carb cravings . Drink loads of water to address any water retention due to extra salt, carbs and alcohol.

butternut123 · 04/01/2026 21:18

I actually took the week off at Xmas. I wanted to enjoy food, a few drinks and I had felt my jab not feeling as effective as previously. I started back up after the week and felt my jab was working well again.

don’t be so hard on yourself OP, your loss is amazing. Tomorrow is a new day

frenchu · 04/01/2026 21:19

i gained a pound over Xmas. Only 1st4lb down so far well now 1st3lb!! I started in November and don’t feel I’ve lost as much as most people do in there first 2 months but hey ho. I sent all the Xmas snacks home with my pregnant sister then did a few days of eating high protein cleaner foods but not tracking. Today I tracked again and it’s got me back in gear. Don’t beat yourself up though, before MJ I would gained nearly a stone over December.

Dollyfloss · 04/01/2026 21:23

Have you gained any weight?

I haven’t jabbed for about 3 weeks as I wanted to enjoy food fully over Christmas (and I have - and have gained 7lbs) but I don’t care! I’ve jabbed 2.5mg today (only ever went up to 7.5mg) I’m not actually bothered about losing the 7lbs as I think I’d lost a bit too much.

Id just tell yourself “right - Christmas is over now and I’ve enjoyed myself. Now I’m back on it.” It’s natural to eat more at Christmas and we all have that “let go, enjoy yourself” mentality.

averychoc · 04/01/2026 21:25

It stands out to me that one of the things you are giving yourself permission to eat is ‘full meals’ - you should always be eating full meals. Aside from that I do think you just need to rid the house of treats and rely on good old fashioned will power, I think it will take a week or 2 but you can definitely get back on top of things. Look at those meals and make sure you are eating enough though as that will definitely help.

DBatteryBand · 04/01/2026 21:27

I have really struggled. Haven't gained any weight, but haven't lost any, either. Seem to have lost all suppression as I cannot stop eating biscuits. I keep telling myself I usually put on at least half a stone over Christmas, and haven't had a single mince pie, slice of cake, pudding or any crackers, butter and cheese. No crisps, either. Or Baileys. So really, it's all ok and things will settle back down, but for the first time since starting Mounjaro in May I have felt like I don't have a grip on things.

My DH (not taking Mounjaro) is starting a carb-free diet tomorrow. I am going to join him on it for a few weeks. I don't eat many carbs (usually!) anyway, but I'm hoping this will get me back on the straight and narrow. But fucking hell, he'd better not try to feed me his legendarily gopping cream-cheese-and-cauliflower-puree mash substitute.🤢

Zempy · 04/01/2026 21:31

I have lost over five stone last year on Mounjaro.

I found that once I started on the sweet stuff there was no stopping me!

I threw it all in the bin after my DC went back home. I can’t be trusted to ration it. Throw away all the sugary fatty foods and things should correct themselves over the next couple of weeks.

DottyMcDiet · 04/01/2026 21:44

I’ve just eaten my last chocolate biscuit!

I’ve only put on half a pound over Christmas so I’m pleased with that but need to get right back on the wagon tomorrow.

LateMumma · 04/01/2026 21:56

I put on about 4lb, and reduced to 6.25mg (was on 7.5, but having some severe side effects). I’ve been surprised how much chocolate, baileys and cheese I’ve managed to put away. Not as much as previous years, but way more than I would’ve imagined. Been on MJ since late June, lost 3 stone. Back on full dose today, and hoping that helps with the carb
craving

Inthezonenow · 04/01/2026 23:31

I think we (most of us) have to give ourselves retrospective permission to fall off the wagon a bit over Christmas. We just need to get rid of the excess food (soooo much cheese!), and get back to normal now.

LovesLabradors · 04/01/2026 23:43

Don't beat yourself up - it's a difficult time of year. I have indulged in some choc/cake/carbs etc but as my appetite remains really reduced, I don't binge/overeat anymore. I've had way more booze than usual but I literally couldn't finish my Xmas dinner - I normally go back for seconds.
Have you weighed yourself? I thought I'd over-indulged tbh, and was so scared to step on the scales - but amazingly hadn't gained, just stayed the same. I'm flabbergasted tbh. First Xmas in about 20 years I haven't gained weight.
Just get right back on it now - easier in January when everyone else goes on a health kick too.

reluctantbrit · 05/01/2026 08:02

Don't look back, look forward. Acknowledge that it wasn't ideal but focus your energy on getting back on track. You can do it, your loss clearly shows it.

I wasn't too bad, strangely I feel more annoyed that I did restrict myself and looked at the lovely stuff in my kitchen without eating a lot but knew that next Christmas I am in a better shape and will shop even less.

What made a huge impact for me was the loss of routine of drinking water, I normally chug 2l water during the day while working and then another one in form of lemon/ginger tea and more water. And less walking, when I am going to the office I get easily 6km per day just moving around, I was working from home with the odd stroll to get some fresh air but definitely a lot less.

So today is back at work properly and back to eating sensibly.

Rainbowcat77 · 05/01/2026 08:06

Yes, I find that when I eat too many carbs especially sugar and neglect protein and water the effectiveness of the jabs is hugely reduced.
Back to work and back on the wagon today though, fingers crossed that we’ll all be on the right path again soon enough.

HollyhockDays · 05/01/2026 08:06

I totally fell off the wagon this month. For various reasons I’ve not jabbed since about the start of December. I totally lost control over Christmas. I forgot to weigh myself but I think I’ve put on half a stone. I’m going back I today but red some headspace to work out what I was doing over Christmas it was like I was thinking “sure it’s no biggie I can lose it again on MJ”.

BridgeBurners2ndArmy · 05/01/2026 08:12

Yep - off the wagon, and put on 4lb. We're off to Center Parcs today and it's my birthday later this week, so I'm cutting myself some slack and getting back on it next weekend when we get home. It's also coincided with switching to wegovy - first jab of that was Boxing day, so I'm not sure that's having an impact. Went from 15mg mounjaro to 1.7mg wegovy, but the snacking started before that tbh.

BridgeBurners2ndArmy · 05/01/2026 08:14

Also poor Joe Wicks has been sadly neglected recently, will get back to doing his videos 3 or 4 times a week next week too - that will definitely help!

Try celeriac mash. It’s a game changer!

Charlenedickens · 05/01/2026 08:40

I’ve been maintaining for about 9 months after over 6 stone loss. I’m on a 5mg maintainence dose, I was on an all inclusive holiday over Xmas and new year and ate and drank a lot over the two weeks, sugary cocktails, lots of desserts etc , and I gained 4 lbs when I weighed myself on return, which went down to 3lbs the day after, which was today.

Yesterday I went back to my normal diet and just forced myself to return to my normal eating routine, and today I feel fine. So just give yourself a last day to enjoy what you wish then focus on returning to your normal eating routine, make sure you drink the water, and within a couple of days you will be fine.

IsItSnowing · 05/01/2026 10:13

I've been on it over a year and last Christmas I found it easy. This time, I found it much harder. But earlier in my mj journey I ate less. Now I can eat a lot more normally in terms of portion size.

I find the junk food is still a massive trigger for me. Once I start eating sweets, crisps etc it is too easy to eat more and then you are getting a lot of calories with low volume of food. I also find that etaing junk food triggers my food noise which is pretty much gone when eating healthily. I know that's because vhpf is designed to do this to you.

I put on 5lbs over Christmas. Probably mostly water due to the increased salt content to be honest. It's all gone now I'm back to normal eating. It's a lesson learned for me for the future to keep this weight off.

Bare in mind if you haven’t used MJ for over 2 weeks you will have to start from the beginning 2.5mg
