Restarting Mounjaro after 6 month break

Hi, I want to stop Mounjaro due to cost but I’m hoping to re-restart it after about six months. Has anyone had an experience of restarting after a significant break? If so was it still effective? I’m hearing on the Internet that some people struggle to lose weight after a break. Thanks

OP posts:

I’ve had a 4 week break due to surgery. I’ve already gained 7lbs!! 😳🤦🏽‍♀️ admittedly my appetite & food noise came back immediately & with the Christmas treats & lack of movement the lbs piled on!

I would like to know others experiences & advice moving forward. Ideally I would of preferred to have had a 2 week break & restart on 7.5mg (I was on 15mg but reduced it to 10mg due to the high costs) I was hoping to start mid way in the hope it would be effective.

I was a slow loser averaging 1lb loss every 10 days! I didn’t realise how helpful it was suppressing my appetite until I had this full break. Even on 15mg no side effects but would notice hunger increase by day 5 🤯😖🫣

i had 3 stone to lose & I was 7lb from target but still wanted to push it another 7lb to give me a sense of room to fluctuate. I am now 1 stone to go & fear it will continue to increase & I end up back to square one with 3-4 stone to loose! Any thoughts appreciated 🫶🏼

I've known a couple of people go on and off due to cost or wanting to see if they can maintain their weight. It did work again after a break but loss was slower, I guess they were closer to ideal weight though?

It does seem very common to regain some weight even if you've genuinely changed your lifestyle and eating patterns. I guess you do what you can to minimise that.

I have just read an article online called: Weight loss jab Mounjaro destroyed my pancreas... I lost 3.5 stone but my life is in limbo and I wish I had NEVER taken it.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-15408567/amp/Weight-loss-jab-Mounjaro-destroyed-pancreas-lost-weight-life-limbo-wish-NEVER-taken-it.html
It’s an informative article about Alisha Trafford’s experience with mounjaro. It includes a diagram chart called Benefits AND risks of fat jabs revealed.

Did OP ask whether Mounjaro would damage her pancreas? I don't think she did..why did you respond with this?

Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t realise I needed your permission to respond to a post. Im sharing an article that might be of an interest to the OP. Do you not believe in making informed choices?

Overtheatlantic · 03/01/2026 10:52

No one should be taking Daily Mail articles as hard facts. They have an agenda.

SilenceInside · 03/01/2026 11:23

It’s not an informative article. It’s click bait about a known listed rare side effect. Anyone taking Mounjaro will be told about the known possible side effects and it’s up to each person to risk assess for themselves. I would assume the OP has the capacity to do that.

roycroppersshopper · 03/01/2026 11:32

Also 'fat jabs' such shaming, blaming language. Using this language suggests that you view WLI users as lazy or vain. Choose your words carefully and be kind.

alcohol destroys the pancreas too. Have you got a ‘helpful link’ for the alcoholic threads?

StealthMama · 03/01/2026 12:38

From what I’ve seen OP you start again in the same way with Low dose and build up. I’m starting to hear about some places now offering maintenance packages where you have to reorder within 2 years to stay on the books.

lots of people are buying the 5mg pens but using them for a lower dose so the are lasting longer but still supporting weight loss.

perhaps depends on where you are at with your weight loss journey.

but restarting seems to be common as people work out what’s right for them.

MildlyAnnoyed · 03/01/2026 12:40

I restarted after about 4 months, it was fine. I was able to stay on the lower doses for an extended period of time. I stopped again around a month ago & am starting again today but on Wegovy because of the price increases.

Howdidlifegetsobusy · 03/01/2026 13:02

One thing to be mindful of is qualifying BMI to be able to restart MJ.

you will regain hunger, but hopefully have formed new eating habits to follow.
what’s you current BMI?

Bipaloss · 03/01/2026 14:47

I stopped in October cold turkey from 12.5 after 4.5 st loss since March

restarted on 2.5 10 weeks after last stopping. now on third dose after a 1 st gain (between 2 weeks after 6 weeks after last dose) .

only feeling some suppression and some less food noise but nothing like first starting MJ , no loss yet but with Xmas season im just happy that I have maintained so far . Hoping it works a bit more as I get on higher doses. I had 2st more too loose now looking at 3st. This time around I’m going straight up (upping every 4 weeks) until 15mg (was minimal losses on 2nd pens last round) and then going back down very very slow , deffo not going cold turkey again !

BMI is now 29…..i imagine I will put some more on in a six month break so should be okay to be prescribed again. Have already lost 60 pounds

Obesity destroys the pancreas and not just in the odd rare person.
Got any articles about that?

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 03/01/2026 15:09

I was off it for 4 months. I've found it doesn't really work for weight loss any more but it does for maintenance. I take it every two weeks now.

DappledOliveGroves · 03/01/2026 15:20

I had about a four month break. I went back on it and the first 2.5mg pen did nothing!! After 4 days I did the next dose and basically moved up to a 5mg pen as soon as I could. The suppression is a lot less than it was first time around, but, it seems to
be working for maintenance this time. Previously I couldn’t stop losing weight, was losing so much hair and was anaemic, so definitely needed a break from it.
This time, three months in, it’s a lot better. My hair is fine, I can eat a lot more BUT I’m
not gaining any weight.

Biggles27 · 03/01/2026 16:40

fylde pharmacy do a good price, cheaper than Asda even with their discounts. I don’t know if they’ll accept you with a bmi under 30, some won’t.

you’ll have to restart at 2.5 and likely won’t see progress till you get higher unfortunately but you’ll never know till you try

good luck op xx

SkibidiSigma · 03/01/2026 16:55

I restarted after a 2 month break following emergency surgery. Started back on 2.5 and it's working fine

I understand it’s Christmas. But I swear it’s always excuses.
People make excuses for gaining weight on Mounjaro, but at the end of the day it still comes down to what you consume and whether you choose to ignore the food noise.
The medication helps—it doesn’t override choices.
While Mounjaro helps with appetite and food noise, it’s not magic. Results still depend on food intake, habits, and consistency, even though some people do face genuine challenges like side effects or metabolic issues.
Me and my friend started same time, lost a LOT of weight. I gained back about a pound or two within 8 months of stopping and they’d gained back most of their weight. I changed my life style though, they didn’t. I bought a cheap treadmill from shein, they didn’t and now they’re complaining and want to start again. They didn’t ignore food noise where as I drank water and changed my diet and had protein and healthy snacks. Over Christmas I still enjoyed, just more veggies etc and more workouts after chistmas. I love MJ but it’s not even been around long enough so we don’t know the long term affects, my goal was to use it for about six months and I used it for five. I didn’t want to be on a long-term term and nobody should. This should help you lose weight and be a wake up call to change your lifestyle and start a bit of exercise because injecting yourself once a week isnt a miracle worker for the rest of your life. X

I think that’s how it’s going to go for most people.. so will need to be on it for life. Most just can’t use willpower by themselves. Because it’s really fucking hard!

Florence19 · 01/02/2026 23:16

Aww… it’s so lovely when you hear the arrogance of people such as Poppyseed8373
for your information. I went in for abdominal surgery weighing 9st12 & within 2 days weighed 10st5!

I’ve done 2 week all inclusive holidays & usually gain 2lbs max & loose it within the following week.

So effectively this sudden weight gain of 7lbs would have been related to inflammation & medication! & certainly not from excuses & laziness as you implied.

unfortunately, the weight difference hasn’t yet changed so I assumed it was from the Christmas treats that actually consisted of 3 mince pies within a 2 week period & a shared box of matchmakers during the same period & not on the same days. I didn’t even have or eat a Christmas dinner!

I stated the Christmas treats as I rarely touch them.

Additionally, due to surgery, I have been instructed to rest & no workout’s or lifting for 8 weeks! I have also been informed by the medical team that the inflammation will likely still be present for a further 8 weeks after the 8 week recovery period!

i also have numerous other health conditions that impact my mobility….my TDEE is 1200. I have 2 small meals a day & the odd snack on fruit or Greek yogurt! Sticking to the 1100-1200 cals.

On MJ it made it more comfortable to manage. Without it, the noise was harder to ignore.

So goody for you…. One day you may well be faced with wake up calls!!! & be offered the same advice you proudly give.

These responses are so odd. Why on earth would someone post a random fail link to a pancreas issue, or decide most people will struggle, when already asked on another thread if the poster has evidence and doesn’t.

and now we have this nonsense, why shouldn’t anyone stay on it long term. I want to. For all the proven health benefits, reduced cancers and increased cardio vascular, kidney and liver health, reduced inflammation which they now know has an anti ageing effect on our internal organs, and potential reduction in dementia

in addition I don’t want to live my life constantly dieting and feeling deprived, I did that for 30 years and I don’t wish to do it any more. And I don’t have to.

and yes I have a treadmill, in fact I have a whole gym, genuinely, and use it several times a week,I eat healthy meals and am fully hydrated.

so yes I want to stay on long term, and I respect other people’s choices to want to do the same when they have fully educated themselves on the meds, like I have, and I respect the global health authorities, from th4 WHO to the mhra that it is optimal as a long term treatment when used in conjunction with exercise and diet, if someone makes an opposite decision that also should be respected, and no one should be positing about what people should or shouldn’t do.

there seems to be a bunch of posters, who don’t use the drugs, or don’t know much about them, having not educated themselves haunting these forums posting misinformation or made up stuff. If
