Caved and re ordered mounjaro

I came off mounjaro in September, came off cold turkey
I made good diet changes but then a parent died, work got rough and I ended up eating my feelings
I have gained 10kg back
In 2 months! I feel disgusted with myself
My trousers (I got new size of everything as I lost 30kg) are now tight
I didn't want to go back on the injections although they were a life line, I can't really afford it.
Woe is me

It's horrible paying so much money but it's also horrible being overweight. So I guess you have to pick which horrible you prefer!

In the same boat, can't afford it but can't be without it.

You seem to be viewing it very negatively. Its a hugely positive thing to do, it works, it worked for you, why view it as a negative thing.

Because she can't afford it and paying for the medication is possiblely requiring cut backs in other areas of life. She thought she'd got to the end of the journey, and could stop paying £100's/month, and is bummed out to have to find that money again.

It's possible to both appreciate the effectiveness of the medication and struggle to budget for it.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 01/01/2026 13:44

Me too.

I think we just need to think of it like any other chronic condition, and unfortunately suck up the fact that no-one else sees it that way, and so the medication to manage it costs us.

I am going to try and stay at a lower dose though, as I don't think I saw much difference past 5mg, and hopefully that will keep everything under control enough.

Looploop · 01/01/2026 14:13

I’m in the same boat. Came off it in Oct and have also regained about 10kg. My reasons were the same - the price increase mainly, also some worries about thinning hair and what it might do to bones. Most of all I felt really cold all the time. I thought it was old age but since coming off it I’ve felt the right temperature not that bone-chilling cold! I have been trying to eat carefully, I lost 6st normally before starting Mounjaro. But the scales keep increasing. I definitely think about food more and Xmas has not helped. I am still excercising often and hard. I think I’m going to have to start up the jabs again. It feels a bit of a failure and I really dread the cold. But I don’t want to undo all the good work.

RoundandSad · 01/01/2026 14:32

So that's two posters here saying that they have gained a lot of weight in two months

Do you feel you were eating enough to explain that kind of weight gain?

I'm thinking to come off after only two months due to side-effects. I've only lost 8lb though.

I get the money issue yes

How else would they have that weight gain if they weren't eating enough to explain it?

Coming off WLI anecdotally leads to a rebound hunger that is higher than ever so big increases in weight are likely if people aren't very careful.

soupyspoon · 01/01/2026 14:42

The hunber isnt 'higher than ever' it just comes as a shock when you remember how strong the cravings are

Its difficult to be accurate over xmas in terms of what is actually gained, a lot of it will be inflammation from sugar intake and water retention.

Looploop · 01/01/2026 14:58

I am snacking a little more - the sort of healthy snacks I allowed myself to have previously when I lost a lot of weight without medication. And the hunger pangs are there often so I am thinking about how long to the next meal, which I didn’t on the meds. But I am not indulging massively on bad foods. I think Mounjaro boosts your metabolism quite a bit. Since coming off I’ve noticed these stats on my Apple Watch: My resting heart rate is quite a bit slower, pretty slow in fact, and my V02 when walking is down as well. I think that’s due to coming off meds. Plus I don’t feel the persistent cold. I am still doing hard exercise regularly. I admit I’ve found it harder to resist the odd mince pie over Xmas but I’ve still tried to keep a lid on it. My hair does seem to be thickening too.

I’m a lifelong fattie. Even with MJ I only got down to “overweight” rather than obese on the BMI charts. It was always such an issue, I always felt very ashamed and I tried everything and failed including previously losing 9st through diet and exercise and then regaining.

Now I can see that it’s not because I am a terrible glutton - I eat a very restricted diet. I think I do just have a slow metabolism. Plus the hunger hormones are so strong. So, now off MJ, I’ve realised I am eating faster and even feeling quite emotional about it. And then thinking of what I can eat next. I hate myself for it. It’s an endless treadmill of hunger, eating and self-hatred. Clothes are tighter but still fit. I am NOT going back to a bigger size. I can’t control it myself so I will have to go back on the medication. ☹️😔

SilenceInside · 01/01/2026 15:08

I don't think it's a negative thing to decide to restart using a tool that successfully helped you to lose weight. It will take time and work to find a way of maintaining, whether using Mounjaro or not. Obviously the cost is not ideal - it might be worth considering trying Wegovy given that it's cheaper at the lower doses if finances are tight.

Looploop · 01/01/2026 15:47

Wegovy is less effective with more reported side-effects. I decided at the start that if I’m going to do I’ll pay for the best one. I begged the NHS for a prescription with no success.

ginislife · 01/01/2026 15:58

I had 2 months off and put 5 lbs on. I was 3lbs off my target when the price hiked so now the price has steadied I’m doing a month to lose 8lbs. My problem is Jaffa cakes !! 😂

soupyspoon · 01/01/2026 16:02

If wegovy suits a person theres nothing wrong with using that, everyone was on wegovy at the start anyway

Its perfectly effective, particularly moreso if cost means someone isnt using mounjaro consistently or only using smaller doses

Looploop · 01/01/2026 16:06

Mounjaro suited me. No side effects except for the coldness. I’ve heard of Wegovy causing vomiting etc. Really I just want a permanent fix - get to a target weight and stay there without constantly having to obsess about trying to resist food.

Jane143 · 01/01/2026 16:11

Can you afford to go back on it a couple of months, lose the weight and be determined to never put it back on again? That’s what I intend doing. Getting down to a size 12 was the best thing I ever did but it’s crept up over Christmas and I’ve realised I can’t eat what I want ever. Hoping to lose it quick again, and keep it off. I hate my clothes feeling tight again

I’m exactly the same after a 2 stone loss it’s creeping up again ☹️

Looploop · 01/01/2026 16:36

I lost about 9.5st but the biggest weight loss was the first 6st without meds. Then it started creeping up and I went on Mounjaro. Did it for 18 months. Three months off it and I am regaining. I’m not happy with that. So back on it I will go - maybe in a week or so once life is back in a routine. After all, I couldn’t get my weight under control the rest of my life so I’m unlikely to succeed now without medication. I think I eat less than my skinnier friends!

RoundandSad · 01/01/2026 16:40

@ShawnaMacallister has that been your experience?

I don't mean to be rude to anybody That is a lot of weight gain in two months which is why I'm asking if they feel they ate enough to warrant that?

I can't work out whether I'm better off trying a bit longer or if it's better to come off now while I have a minimal loss

I am extremely determined! I’ve just been to the gym and I was there yesterday too and on an off throughout Xmas. I’ve not been partying although of course food is all around at this time. The weight started coming back as soon as I stopped in Oct despite sticking to a rigid diet and exercise regime. But I have been more peckish and feeling more emotional about food! And gobbling it down quickly without realising how fast! Determination is not enough, never was. I’ve spent my whole life determining to be slim and never managed it. Even at my lightest I’m a size 16. Met someone the other day who clearly still thought me horribly overweight and was hinting about it. ☹️☹️

RoundandSad · 01/01/2026 16:41

@Looploop you quite possibly do

My family are a bit shocked when they see what I eat. There's no way I should be overweight.

Due to heritage, I scrape into the guidelines for getting this medication so to me 10 kg is about half what I need to lose. To put that on in two months seems extreme.

C080889 · 01/01/2026 16:46

I did 6 months on MJ. Lost 26kg. Came off it in June. I have gained 2kg since then (mostly Dec) I found the Nutracheck app invaluable. I log everything. The noise is back but you have to just try and tell it to F off
I still have 7kg to lose and im on Week 1 Wegovy so far so good.

Looploop · 01/01/2026 16:48

It’s less than 1kg a week but it’s definitely going on. I can’t control it. I have repeatedly been told by the NHS that I don’t qualify for a prescription so it will be back to paying. It’s about £320 a month for the 15mg I was on before. At least it’s cheaper at the initial dose.

Mentally, I am hating myself for undoing the good work.

Can you tell me how you qualify if that’s all you need to lose? I lost 60kg and am still obese - was “overweight” at my best - and nobody in the NHS will give me a prescription! I was on Tier 3 NHS weight loss - lots of advice but NO prescription. I’d like to be slim but most of all I want to live a healthy life!!

soupyspoon · 01/01/2026 16:53

I assume that poster is talking about getting it privately
