I came off mounjaro in September, came off cold turkey
I made good diet changes but then a parent died, work got rough and I ended up eating my feelings
I have gained 10kg back
In 2 months! I feel disgusted with myself
My trousers (I got new size of everything as I lost 30kg) are now tight
I didn't want to go back on the injections although they were a life line, I can't really afford it.
Woe is me

@soupyspoon its not clear? Maybe that’s what they mean. I’ve read that GLP-1 tablets may soon be coming out and will be cheaper so that’s my hope now.

To be honest Im yet to be convinced anyone has got it on the NHS solely for weight loss rather than being prescribed a similar thing for diabetes.

I think the NHS is letting people down massively with this.

tothewindow25 · 01/01/2026 16:59

Is the money not partially offset by eating less though? Takeaways etc are so expensive these days and convenience food when out and about and cravings make you pay over the odds.

notcomfortable · 01/01/2026 17:04

Yes I have eaten enough to warrant the weight gain
I have eaten absolute crap, through no fault of my own
I am also coelic and have an under active thyroid so I was always battling medical issues.
Even just eaten 3 gf meals a day will make me gain weight because they aren't full of great stuff - so I've been told, not 100% sure on that
Because I have already reordered, I'm very determined not to end up back here this time next year, I know how failure feels and don't want to keep going down this road. I've been a yoyo dieter since having kids. I've never been happy with my weight, never look in a mirror etc
So when mounjaro worked I was delighted, it was a complete game changer but then life got in the way and the hunger I didn't think was being suppressed is so full on
I wake up at 1am and feel so hungry, but my diet is poor I realise that now

I think seeing it as medication to manage a lifelong condition is key. It’s easy to frame weight loss and gain as success and failure, and no doubt many of us have thought in those terms for decades. It isn’t failure though, but our body’s response. The GLP/GIP stopped our hormones from thinking we are starving and got rid of the constant need to eat fatty, sugary and carbohydrate dense food. And now the hormones are back and acting up so need to be put back in their place. Some people won’t need WLI long term, but others will need to continue to control the chemicals in their bodies. Similarly some people need to take medication to control their blood pressure & others don’t. The difference being that BP medication is available on the NHS.

Budgetwise, Wegovy will suit some people. Most people in fact. It only has GLP1 and not the GIP element, so people who tolerate MJ are not likely to experience additional side effects by switching.

Keeping to the lowest effective dose of either product will help to keep the cost down and is also a good choice for long term maintenance. I have found that lower/split doses have worked well for me personally and this might also help a little until the pens changes. I am currently taking 3.3mg of MJ every 5 days and get 8 doses out of a 5 mg pen, costing around £4.00 a day.

Looploop · 01/01/2026 17:07

I don’t eat takeaways. When I’m at work I prep a salad in advance and take it in. I snack on fruit. No, my food bills are not cut by £320 a month!!

I know people don’t believe me but I am NOT a big eater. The only way I have lost weight in the past was by eating 800 calories a day and also doing a good 650 calories of exercise at least three times a week. With Mounjaro I lost the weight without being quite so obsessive. I am convinced by metabolism was boosted and data from my Apple Watch backs that up.

RoundandSad · 01/01/2026 17:22

@Looploop I mean I just scrape in for private prescription

So posters are saying gained 10 kg in two months

If 20 kg is 44 lb, I'd be more than done if I could lose that

So to gain half of it in two months seems extreme to me does that make sense?

I absolutely believe you that you don't eat a lot. I don't eat a lot and I don't have food noise. I don't even flipping know what it is until someone explained it to me here - my body is just designed to eat a very very small amount of food and I find that hard and my sister tells me all about it and I've got bloody fat! And she's got hollow legs

sorry, I didn't mean to hijack this thread
I just can't decide what I'm doing because I'm finding it's really tough experience being on this medication

my thinking is that people might have experienced worse weight gain because of something to do with having been on medication

Which would be even more of a reason for me to come off now

Periperi2025 · 01/01/2026 17:25

It expected as supported by medical studies, you are NORMAL not a failure.

Can't help with the cost though!

But it's worth it for your health. Maybe this time get the weight back down then maintain on a really low dose to make it affordable, and take the pressure off but relying largely on your dietary/ lifestyle changes.

Dollybantree · 01/01/2026 17:25

How are you doing it OP? Weekly? What dose?

Only bc I’m finding buying a 5mg pen and doing 2.5mg doses (ie.half dose) is working well for me and it makes the pen last 10 weeks.

Oushk were absolutely supportive of me doing this also.

AgnesMcDoo · 01/01/2026 17:26

I will be on it forever.

just keep hoping a cheaper version comes out sooner rather than later.

I switched to wegovy when the price rises came in but immediately started putting on weight.

so now back on the MJ good stuff

Looploop · 01/01/2026 17:42

I’d say 10kg is not that much for me. I’m reasonably tall - 170cms. I’ve not gone up a clothing size with that weight gain but things are tighter. Considering I was a LOT heavier at one stage it’s not so bad - I don’t know if other people have noticed. But these things are proportional. If you are close to ideal BMI and fairly short and have a small bone structure it will seem more. I’ve realised that even if I was skeletally thin I would still be tall and broad! Apparently I am a mesomorph. I can lose a lot of weight but I can also gain a lot quickly. Most of my life I’ve gained it.

RoundandSad · 01/01/2026 17:45

@Looploop oh yes, you're way taller than me everyone is

Sorry, I am obsessed with everything food and numbers and weight related since I went on this bloody medication! i'll go away now

@notcomfortable I hope you find a solution

BeGreenBiscuit · 23/01/2026 11:29

Have you thought about paying someone to talk to? You can work out your feelings with him or her. If you are grieving I would put the pen down you could make yourself sick. I lost my dad in 2021 and then my mum in 2023 I went up to 16st 10. Last year I went on mounjaro after probate and selling property had completed. I wrecked myself but I had to go through it. I would advise talking to someone.

When I first bought it last year the pharmacist does advise it doesn't work for everyone. The EastEnders actress was on it and she lost nothing. I think she had some of her stomach cut out. Has your GP given you a diet plan to follow because you don't want to go down the surgery route. I am off the pens now I still monitor what I am eating and the effects it has on my body. For example last night I ate a small while wheat roll with pork mince in sauce and wholemeal pasta and I lost a pound. I only walked 6000 steps yesterday but that did include a bit of running because I didn't want to be late. You have to keep going even if you come off. Keep a food and exercise diary or upload meal and exercise apps. Don't give in.

How do you do this? Do you wind the clicker less and do you order a 5 mg dose?

Donewiththisshit · 23/01/2026 21:22

Did those of you who can off and gained hit bmi of 30 again in order to get accepted to restart or will pharmacies prescribe again at lower BMIs?
