Welcome fellow maintainers to our third thread! Tis the season to be joyful and we do have reasons to be joyful, as we are still here. Not always the perfect journey and full of treats and temptations, but we'd have nothing to talk about otherwise. So hop on the Magical Maintenance Sleigh of Wonder and lets go! (Apologies to all those reading this for the first time in March! I got a bit carried away my festive season puns.)

I wonder sometimes if intuitive eaters are just the ones that have no food noise at all and for whom food is just fuel.

Started my day with and M&S protein yogurt, that was quite nice. I think I’ll have a pouch of lentils for lunch and dinner I’ve not a clue about so far. Chicken and vegetables in some combination!

MargoLivebetter · 27/01/2026 12:18

@26inprogress I'm sure that will just be water weight fluctuations. Let's see what number comes up next week.

@OneThirdLess and @FurForksSake I have definitely lost the intuitive eating skill. I presume that only those people who have managed to remain slim most of their lives have this!

@Blondeshavemorefun agree. I've successfully lost weight so many times but never kept it off for this long before. I think I'll have calorie values carved into my tombstone as a fitting memory of how much time I dedicated to calorie counting in my life!!!!! 😂

Sometimes I feel depressed about my life long weight struggles. My weight was not a blip, it was what I always returned to after periods of getting the weight off. I think k screwed up my metabolism and relationship with food as a teen and it will now always be a battle. My body is pretty gross under clothes due to stretch marks and sagging. I have little muscle due to physical difficulties.

I am desperate this time for it to work. But, I also know that if I came off and I did regain then I can do this again. Obviously that’s worst case; but I am hopeful that knowing I have this in my back pocket will make me forgiving of myself.

MargoLivebetter · 27/01/2026 13:47

@FurForksSake I think there are lots of us here with long and miserable relationships with our weight and food. Stories which played out for decades for a lot of us. I completely understand why you might feel a bit depressed about it all. No beating yourself up though - that definitely isn't allowed!

Without wanting to diminish your feelings, there is good news, which is that the weight loss landscape has changed completely. And from what I can tell, the options are only going to improve doing forwards. New drugs are being worked on and different delivery mechanisms are being trialed too. I think it will only get easier to manage our relationship with our weight and food.

Anyhow, if nothing else consider yourself virtually hugged, or given a virtual hot cuppa, or whatever your preferred expression of solidarity might be!

@26inprogress also sometimes with excercise, particularly if you have an injury, there is temporary inflammation from muscle repair. It causes fluid retention and a short-term increase in weight.

I think that before MJ was accessible (for those of us fortunate enough to afford it) we spend so many years dieting, losing, regaining, hating our bodies etc etc that many of us really struggle with having a steady, healthy approach to food, eating, feeling hungry, avoiding bingeing... I hope that being in a healthy BMI range and maintaining that will eventually go some way to helping me have that steady state. Fingers crossed.

I hear you @FurForksSake . I'm 60 this year and it really saddens me to think about how I spent my childhood from age 8 and all my adult life, constantly thinking about my weight, hating my body, denying myself food. What I could have achieved if I hadn't been permanently distracted and held back by this.

But we're in a completely different place now and we have to celebrate that and give ourselves a big pat on the back for getting to where we are...we're still imperfect for sure but we're not obese. We're healthier and fitter and stronger than we were and, while we don't know what the future holds, we're in a really good place today.

Me too! I look great in clothes but don't look underneath. 🤣
@FurForksSake
Don't feel bad as it's genetics or outside factors. We have all followed the guidelines but the guidelines are wrong. Read The obesity code.

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 15:17

My grandmother was huge, she wasn’t tall but she was very obese when she died in her early seventies and looked like a much older woman. My mum is 70 this year and is fairly normal, maybe a little over weight but she’s been physically disabled since an accident ten years ago. My dad’s a big man but he likes a drink and lovely food and that comes at a cost! So definitely some genetics I’m fighting against.

Il try and get the obesity code for a read.

was there talk about slim pod on here once? I was wondering if anyone uses it?

26inprogress · 27/01/2026 15:50

Thanks everyone, I know you’re right but I’m still pissed off 😂exercise is dangerous!!! I’ve been eating lots today, think it’s a combo of not feeling brilliant and craving carbs and I don’t know what, anyway, tomorrow is a new day and even though I’ve had a more challenging day I haven’t stuffed my face in the way I would have done bm! Agree on the genetics, and wasting time yo yo dieting. But also agree that the weight loss landscape is looking much more positive and look how far we’ve all come; we’re amazing!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2026 16:25

We have all come far and we need to remember this

tho wish they would roll out a fat/diet/mj pill asap

Wegovy pill is hopefully out sometime this year - it's under review. It's out in the US already. It's got the same ingredients as regular Wegovy.

Then Lilly who make Mounjaro are releasing a pill as well hopefully later this year - it's not Mounjaro but has a similar effect.

🤞🤞🤞 for no delays. Though I'm happy with the jabs as they work for me, I know a pill will be much easier for many people (and hopefully cheaper)!

FoxRedPuppy · 27/01/2026 19:35

I was a calorie counter, logging on Nutracheck. I weigh once a week still. What I have found weird is I haven’t been calorie counting, but I haven’t changed weight. At all. 62.3kg on the dot each time.

I know I should log stuff really. I do get hungrier, but I usually have some nuts and seeds or drink loads of water. My lunch is the main issue, I’ve started using bread. I find lunch a tricky one. I like salad in the warmer months, but not really found a winter replacement. I’ve tried soup, but I don’t love it. I don’t really like beans and pulses. I’ve tried hard to, I want to, but the texture is just wrong!

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 19:47

Ooh @FoxRedPuppy we could think about lunches for you. What about a salad base and then having some pre cooked chicken and roasted veg that you heat up and top it with? Or leftovers? We’ve had a very veg heavy cottage pie for dinner and dh is taking that for lunch tomorrow. You could make some stew or curry and portion it into the freezer? I like the lentil pots and pouches for a quick lunch and sometimes add some shredded chicken breast to it or a few cubes of cheese. Cous cous might be a goer for you. I also like a picky plate, cottage cheese, lean meat, pickles, light bay bel and a few ryvita things is great with a selection of chopped veg and some sliced apple.

I log every day but I’m much more random with it now. I have a good idea on how much I can eat.

FoxRedPuppy · 27/01/2026 20:06

I just always feel salad is wrong in the cold! Maybe I need to give it a go. I do sometimes have leftovers. I was having eggs, but was suffering with constipation and they weren’t helping!

I have some lentil pouches, but I tried one and could do the texture. So annoying!

Merlin23 · 27/01/2026 20:12

I work 3 days I make 3 days worth for lunch this is enough for 3 days
2 salmon fillets
1 packet Merchant gourmet quinoa
1/2 a lemon squeezed
Citrus spice, (bought from Waitrose)
60g frozen peas

Cook the salmon then I put it in 3 tubs. 2 minutes in the microwave for lunch.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/01/2026 20:21

I should buy salmon more. I do love it with rice

FurForksSake · 27/01/2026 20:37

You could do potatoes if you fancied? Diced and a light spray of oil and cooked in the air fryer with spices. You could then pair those with some broccoli, carrots and chicken and mix that up and make a sort of hot salad.

Instead of reducing eggs could you pair it with lots of fibre? Carrots, beetroot’s and broccoli are good. You could make a root veg frittata maybe?

Azuresky68 · 27/01/2026 22:48

@KrankyKumquat and @FurForksSake and anyone else who feels the same...I totally relate to these feelings 🤗❤️🤗

Cantbesure · 29/01/2026 12:43

Hi all. I’m catching up on the thread again. Well done to everyone for keeping on our weight maintenance journey.

this weekend I will have been off MJ for 32 weeks. I took it for 30 weeks so I have now been off the jas for longer than I was on them. I’ve maintained my weight which has surprised me as I was very worried about maintenance. I would say I found weeks 3-5 the hardest. That was when I could feel the effects of the suppression disappearing, and the reappearance of food noise. I gave myself a target of 1500 calories and 15000 steps a day which seemed to get me through this stage.

Currently I am mindful of what and how much I eat, but I’m not tracking. I am a daily weigher which I find works for me so if I can see my weight is heading up I can manage it by reducing calories and/or increasing my exercise. So far this is working for me.

FurForksSake · 29/01/2026 12:46

Hi @Cantbesure that’s amazing and so positive to hear! Do you track macros and do weights? What’s your day to day look like? I’m loving hearing of your success.

Cantbesure · 29/01/2026 12:54

Thanks so much @FurForksSake I don’t actively track anything at the moment. When I was on MJ and at the start of maintenance I tracked calories and macros and aimed for over 100g of protein and 30g of fibre.

I’ve just started back at the gym after a break but I don’t do any serious lifting. I run, which I’m pretty consistent with. So probably round 10-15 miles a week.

Yesterday I was in the office so I had a meal deal for around 600 cals, for dinner I had a Quorn escalope, mash and baked beans. I had 2 Christmas chocs (all gone now!) and an apple. I didn’t have breakfast as I didn’t have time and if I can do without it I will.

today I’ve had 2 hot cross buns for breakfast and will probably have the same dinner as yesterday as I have the same food that needs eating. I’m planning on a run so will probably have some home made soup, crackers and a banana when I get back from that.

MargoLivebetter · 29/01/2026 12:54

@Cantbesure thank you for updating us. Such an encouraging post and experience. Thank you and well done!
