Mounjaro - 2 doses and no effect

ToddlerTornado · 03/11/2025 20:02

Iv had 2 doses of 2.5mg (the starting dose) due my third tomorrow, i feel exactly the same as when I wasn't on it.

Can anyone tell me how I’m meant to feel? As no change at all currently!

Everyone is different, 2.5mg is a loading dose intended to get your body used to the medication and is not a therapeutic dose however some people are super responders and may never get beyond 2.5 conversely others need to get to the higher doses before they feel much effect.
Try to eat healthily and trust the medication, it works for most people although there are some non responders.

pterodactylpinky · 03/11/2025 20:14

It’s not a loading dose, it’s a starting dose.

mollibu · 03/11/2025 20:22

2.5mg was like injecting water for me! 5mg the same. I did 1 month on 7.5mg and lost…. 5lbs!! Moved straight up to 10 and have been on that for 3 months and have now lost 44lbs!! Not all doses work for everyone, it was the case with me. You’ll know what dose is working when it is if that makes sense.

Chopsy123 · 03/11/2025 20:37

Assuming you mean you haven’t lost any weight yet, it might be that you need to increase your dose strength to feel any effect on your system.

The lower doses don’t do much for some people and it’s not until they start 7.5mg or higher before they start to feel suppression and lose weight.

You could try taking 3.75mg from your current pen (normal full dose plus 30 clicks of the final dose), and see if that makes a difference?

Im curious to know how people feel when on Mounjaro, does it make you think less about food? Or do you need less to fill you up?

It was both in my case.

I think you just need to be on a higher dose. I didn't lose a lot on 2.5.

Yellowsubmarine55 · 03/11/2025 21:19

Been on it just over 6 months and not gone above 2.5.

After first injection I just went off food. After the initial horrible side effects, I got full very quickly and my tastes changed. So wanted savoury rather than sweet stuff.

Now I just don't think about food as in I'm not looking for a snack so I just eat three times a day whereas before it was multiple with a biscuit here, a pkt crisps there etc

Still now I feel satisfied after a smaller than usual portion and can just not have any more.

But as others have said, everyone is different. My DH never had any side effects, feels full half as often as I do and is still on 2.5 as well but is still losing weight.

So you might not feel any different but as long as you are in a defecit you'll lose weight as it's that which loses weight not the dose. Don't chase suppression as it may not arrive.

AmberLime · 03/11/2025 21:28

I took my 2.5mg doses every 4 days, to get through them and move up. Same either 5mg, I did those every 5 days. Only whe I got up the 7.5mg does did it last the full week with good effect

Mysticmaiden · 04/11/2025 05:53

I was prediabetic (but didn't know) when I started so the doses didn't last long at all. Didn't feel 2.5mg in fact felt hungrier as it increased my metabolism. I was on a strict low cal diet from the start. Took 5 weeks to lose 5lbs. Had some suppression on 5mg but it was 10mg and above I needed for glycaemic control and to resolve my high blood sugar symptoms. Now I'm 9st 3lbs bmi 22.9, keep going. My prescriber advised using doses ever 5 days when they wore off and I had ravenous hunger.
When it works you will feel fuller most of the time, even when not eating, you will fill up quickly after a meal and the food noise and always thinking about food ends. I also craved carbs and that has gone. Would advise a higher protein diet to maintain muscle and feel fuller quicker.

That’s interesting, I was type 2 and haven’t never moved up from 2.5mg in a whole year, it’s worked amazingly for me.

Where you on medication for your type 2? I wasn't treated for prediabetes. My hba1c was 45 in sept 23, I started MJ in Oct 24 so it could have been at the diabetes level (48) and above by then as I didn't know and constantly craved carbs, which is a big sign. Not had any follow up blood tests since. I also had high BP and lots of abdominal tummy fat, apple shaped body. If you were being treated for type 2 then that would have controlled your blood sugars.

pterodactylpinky · 04/11/2025 12:10

No they never put my on meds it was ‘diet and lifestyle changes’ advise for 6 months, then another 6 months then I bit the bullet and went on MJ

Maybe the diet and lifestyle changes for 6 months helped lower your blood sugars? It must have been low enough to not medicate. I had to go all the way upto 15mg, then I'd lost enough and doses were too strong so on 7.5mg now. All my sugar symptoms were resolved around bmi 25. I envy those who can stay on a lower dose!

Oh no that was their ‘treatement plan’ I never changed a thing until I started MJ,

I’m meant to be having my 4th 2.5mg dose this week. Should I start on 5mg instead? Still no effect on how I feel on 2.5mg at all

OP posts:
mollibu · 11/11/2025 14:06

I would go up! But not sure it’s recommended but if 2.5mg is having no affect then what’s the harm?

SilenceInside · 11/11/2025 14:11

I would stick with the 2.5mg. The amounts will still be building in your system with the next 2.5mg injection to reach the highest levels they've yet been. I would see if that is more effective rather than jumping up to 5mg.

I would take it earlier so not to waste it, maybe day 5 and then do the extra in there earlier too again day 5, which is just over a full dose so the golden dose with the hard twist method so when it locks you twist the pen top with pliers to turn it back to 1 or buy some syringes to extract the extra. It's a good way to build it up to the 5mg.

perimenopoppet · 11/11/2025 14:48

I would take the 4th 2.5mg dose as prescribed (looks at a graph on dose diary and you will see each week is a new high so it may kick in) and then the 5th week, get insulin syringes and take the whole lot of remaining liquid. Likely to be 0.7-0.9ml depending on how much you primed with. That’s a nice step up of 3- 3.75mg dose week 5 and then you can start a 5mg pen the 6th week onwards.

Or if 3.75mg starts to work then take 45 clicks from the 5mg pen, no need to rush up.

It could be the case you are a slower responder so do need to move up every pen but don’t rush ahead if that as you risk side effects.

Frenchfrychic · 12/11/2025 20:52

Do the four weeks on 2.5 op, don’t jump ahead, 5mg can be difficult for many people, and it builds each week in your system, jumping ahead could see you not able to continue further as it knocks you so sick.

just do the 4 doses of 2.5 then move to 5.

ToddlerTornado · 12/11/2025 22:15

Thanks , I went with the 4th 2.5mg and next week I will do 5mg.

Does anyone use the “golden dose” ?

OP posts:
morbidcuriosity · 12/11/2025 22:31

Just reading, and was gonna comment, but see you went for the 4th 2.5mg.

In answer to your golden dose question.. Yes, take it, and use a syringe and you should get a little more out if you have been careful with the priming, maybe up to 3.75mg, nice little stepping dose up to 5mg. and saves money as an extra week out of it!

pterodactylpinky · 03/11/2025 20:14

It’s not a loading dose, it’s a starting dose.

Loading dose is probably the wrong word but the manufacturers state that the initial 2.5mg is to condition your body to the drug. It’s not intended as a therapeutic dose. That’s why their instructions are to automatically move up to 5mg after four weeks. It is only then that further increases are only made under supervision of your prescriber.
Having said that, many people do find 2.5mg works well for them and choose to stick with that dose, which is fine - but contrary to the dosage instructions. I personally didn’t move up straight away and when I did move up, it was to 3.75mg. That’s not following the patient instructions but I was fine with that.

I used the golden dose once I reached the optimal dose for me, which was 10 mg, I didn’t mess around doing it before that, as knew I had to move up.

It’d just called initiate treatment, and as you say to get your body used to it.

a loading dose is actually the opposite, it is a much larger first dose to get fast therapeutic benefits. But I see a lot of people call it a loading dose, when it is the opposite of that. The word loading is the giveaway ☺️
