Do you still enjoy food?

I need to start but am wondering whether to wait until after Christmas, because I still want to enjoy Christmas food & drink. Would mounjaro take that enjoyment away or can you still enjoy food but just have less hunger/desire to eat?

It definitely takes away the enjoyment because you physically can’t eat it and some things you loved will repulse you however I’d start now and just don’t take it Xmas week

As you can see that’s a minority and would mean too high a dose or unable to tolerate the drug, most people get hungry and just eat a healthy portion and thoroughly enjoy it.

LnicMJ · 30/10/2025 22:18

I have always loved food! Im on 5mg MJ at the moment and enjoy my evening meal, just a much smaller portion than before and I manage to stop when im full which I never did previously - generation of not leaving the table until plate clean etc. I only have a very small lunch and look forward to my evening meal.
I have a treat bag of malteasers over the weekend and still occasionally have a glass of wine but not often. I've lost 22lb in 10 weeks and will continue over Xmas - enjoying all it offers but less of it!
Dont put it off if you can afford to start now, if you're like me you will regret not starting sooner!
Good luck! ☺️

I'm 17 weeks in. So far there's nothing I can't eat. Lots of things I'm no longer craving but can eat a wee bit and enjoy it. I did have one of the new Pineapple McSpicy burgers as was in a rush the other day and had bad heartburn but that's all. I've eaten kebabs, chinese, Indian on occasion all with no ill effects. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Emma2803 · 31/10/2025 00:25

I've been on it for 14 weeks, lost 42lb so far but I have a lot to lose.

I'm still just on the second dose, I don't intend to rush my way to the top while the lower doses are working well.
I've had very few side effects (a little bit of occasional heartburn and constipation)

I still enjoy eating, I'm eating normal healthy foods, eating family meals with the kids etc.

The constant thinking about food has gone, and I have lost my desire for crisps and chocolate, but proper dinner I still love and really enjoy.
I eat smaller portions than I used to, I'm full quicker and stay fuller longer.

I'm so looking forward to NOT eating a mountain of quality street and roses. I am looking forward toy dinner on the day, it's just like a slightly bigger Sunday dinner and I still eat a Sunday dinner every week (mash, veg, gravy, roast potatoes and meat)

I'll just probably eat a bit less of it.

No I get hungry but obviously you’re not or shouldn’t be eating McDonald’s etc and even if you have a treat once a week it takes the enjoyment away as you physically cannot take in a lot of it or it makes you feel a little unwell so yes to a degree it definitely takes enjoyment away from food

Ive done 10 months and its taken enjoyment away from food as i cant eat any amount like I did or like you said it gives you some kind of side effects. Also it’s the mental side of being on a diet because you’re having to think and make the right choice not just scoffing any old crap you fancy.

Comedycook · 31/10/2025 06:21

Yes to an extent...but it no longer gives me the thrill it used to. And I am also able to stop whereas previously if something tasted nice, I'd just want to eat it until i was physically too full to eat any more

I'm sorry that's your experience. It's totally not that way for me. 1 food item so far has given me bad heartburn. The rest for me is so easy because of the jab. This is the easiest I've ever lost weight in my life. The stress is gone, I'm naturally choosing healthier foods, stopping when I'm full. It's not even a conscious decision most of the time. I couldn't do that alone. Your struggle with not being able to eat as much, choosing healthy foods etc is how I felt without the MJ and it was a struggle. I'd give up after a couple of weeks, every time.

I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying

This might sound ridiculous, but isn’t a decreased appetite a bit annoying when you pay for food? I too have an ingrained mentality of clearing the plate, and when I’ve paid ever higher restaurant prices even more so. If on Mounjaro I go out to dinner will I leave half of my paid for food and feel frustrated?

Or, if you stuff it all in you’ll be wasting the money you’ve spent on Mounjaro.

SilenceInside · 31/10/2025 07:57

@WolfyWolves you just order less. I know how much I can eat now, and I wouldn't order a large main. I might have a side or a starter as a main, or share a dish instead of ordering it just for me. Works out cheaper!

WhamBamThankU · 31/10/2025 07:59

If you want to wait and start jabs in January why not make a start naturally now and start when you’re planning on doing so? Gives you a head start and you won’t be worrying about not being able to eat and drink over Christmas if you’ve made headway!

I mean this politely but that’s the attitude why we get fat. It’s your fat brain talking. I go out to dinner most weeks, I pick something healthy and light normally like seafood or fish, with veg, rice, salad, stuff I’d never pick before, or a steak and salad, and pretty much consume the whole thing, except a small amount on the side, as I am making sure I break the mentality of clearing my plate.

i think all these things, can I eat over Xmas, can I clear my plate in a restaurant is our fat brains talking. You either want to go on a diet and lose weight or you don’t.

You just order less because you are less interested in it in the first place.

Imagine going somewhere where you are not interested in wants they sell but other people are obsessed with.

Like a tropical fish shop or a Mercedes garage. Someone else who loves tropical fish, would go to that shop and they would want to buy this one and that one and they wouldn’t enjoy the day out unless they bought a load of tropical fish. But you could just go to a tropical fish shop, look at the fish, appreciate the fish and then leave without wanting any. And still enjoy the experience. That’s what it’s like.

@OuiOuiMonAmi
How much weight do you have to lose?
Will you carry on putting on weight between now and January or can you maintain your current weight if you’re sensible?

If you have a lot to lose then it makes sense to start now and to get your body used to the drugs before you hit Christmas.

Once you have lost all the excess weight you will have to learn to eat healthily FOREVER if you want to keep the weight off. So bingeing at Christmas and other times of the year doesn’t sound like a good idea and taking time learning to eat the foods you enjoy in moderation makes much more sense, if you think about it.

There isnt a person in the world who doesnt overindulge at celebratory times.

Ask for a doggy bag, order only a starter.

I take my own pots with me

Iwanttoliveinagardencentre · 31/10/2025 08:25

Yes I still enjoy food but I don’t find chocolate, crisps and treat non filling type food so attractive and I can only eat smaller quantities of any food.
I would crack on and start mounjaro asap.
I have lost 9 stones and am now about to stop mounjaro when I finish this pen.
No side effects and no regrets.

I love that analogy thank you. About to start Mounjaro and having the most random thoughts like this.
Fortunately (?) I rarely eat out!

Um what? I’ve been on these drugs over a year and never once just ordered a starter, we can all eat a meal. And there is no way I’d go out to dinner have a starter and bring a doggy bag or a Tupperware dish.

That defeats the whole idea of taking MJ. It does a lot of the chemical work for you but you have to change your mind set around food. You won't want or be able to-in most cases-eat a big plate of food. If I go out I order 2 small starters instead of a main. Its not hard to adjust.

I can't eat a full main now myself but I order 2 starters of foods I really like, and enjoy them. They're always overall less food than I main but I do enjoy what I have. I really struggle to eat more than that.

Ineedanewsofa · 31/10/2025 08:39

I’m 16 weeks in, still on 2.5mg and 18kg down - 3kg to go until I’m a healthy BMI!
My experience has been that I still get hungry and still ‘fancy’ something but the MJ consistently catches me before I over indulge. I can now feel satisfied having a couple of chocs from the box rather than demolishing the whole thing, a glass or two of wine rather than the whole bottle, one helping of my dinner rather than two (or three!)
I still enjoy food but I now have an off switch which is so liberating! I no longer stuff my face and then feel awful about myself, all the food guilt has gone. I’m looking forward to Xmas on MJ as I’ll be able to enjoy it without the background worry and guilt around what I’m eating

SilenceInside · 31/10/2025 08:45

@Thelankyone I can't eat a main of the size that many restaurants serve, and I am also limited in my choice by being vegetarian. So I often have a starter as a main, or a side as a main. Or I prefer a restaurant that does smaller dishes, like tapas or japanese food, ideally.

Mounjaro means that I feel fuller quicker and stay fuller for longer, so as a result I eat less. That's the effect that I wanted it to have!
