Do you still enjoy food?

I need to start but am wondering whether to wait until after Christmas, because I still want to enjoy Christmas food & drink. Would mounjaro take that enjoyment away or can you still enjoy food but just have less hunger/desire to eat?

It's not so much you don't enjoy food, but when I was on the jabs I wouldnt have been able to tolerate all the trimmings. I had one roast potato once, and man did I regret that. However, everyone is different, it's not one size fits all.

Christmas is a way off yet, you could lose a fair bit (or gain a fair bit by then) so if you are really serious about losing weight, there is no time like the present.

SilenceInside · 30/10/2025 12:56

Yes you will still enjoy food, just in smaller quantities and without being obsessed with eating lots of sugary stuff, probably. A small amount will do just fine.

In 8 weeks time you could have lost a load of weight, and you will be well into taking the injections and probably very accustomed to the changes in your eating habits. Why would you wait more than 2 months to start?

Thelankyone · 30/10/2025 12:58

Yes if on the right dose you still enjoy food and get hungry, just you eat less.

however focusing on how much you can consume over Xmas is still the mindset which leads to being overweight.

many paused over Xmas I stayed on, as simply for me this is a lifetime change, I am happy to enjoy any food, just in less quantities. I still go out for dinner, socialise, drink, do everything I did before, simply I’m happy with less as I get full quicker.

susiedaisy1912 · 30/10/2025 13:02

Don’t wait until the new year. Start now and skip your dose the week of Xmas. I did exactly that last year and it was fine I had no issues whatsoever. I couldn’t eat loads but was able to enjoy a bit of everything I fancied. Some people get very upset when others suggest skipping a dose to fit in around a holiday or Xmas but imo the medication is there to help you not control your life.

ThirdStorm · 30/10/2025 13:29

I still enjoy food but in the first couple of months I was restricted in what I could tolerate, no sugar, no fat, etc so I ate very plainly. But you know what? I didn't mind, I thought I would mind "missing out" on holiday or at Christmas but I don't at all. It's changed what I eat/how much of it I eat (which is good) but I am satisfied and happy. If you want to start this journey, do it now!

ResusciAnnie · 30/10/2025 13:31

I enjoy food more! Zero guilt. I used to feel guilty for eating at all. Now:
• my brain is calmer and less anxious, I think due to the anti inflammatory effects of MJ
• I’m eating less so less reason to feel guilty

I still eat all the same things I did before, just less overall and comfort/stress eating and the shame and guilt that goes along with that is a thing of the past.

Waitaminutewheresmejumper · 30/10/2025 13:34

Why would you wait, potentially giving yourself even more to lose? I like food very much, I just have a much smaller appetite and don't crave it. Plus, after a year on WLI, I know now I ate far too much pre jabs and that was what got me fat in the first place.

ResusciAnnie · 30/10/2025 13:34

Also I feel hungrier than I ever did pre MJ. Because I’m actually allowing my appetite to grow rather than stuffing my face all day.

That’s a good point, how much do you think you’d gain between now and January, can you maintain your weight for the next two months, and onky gain over the Xmas period? Or will you steadily gain, thinking well I’m going on them anyway, so may as well eat what I please. Would you be comfortable if you were a stone or more heavier by Jan? And held off so you could eat and drink as much as you wished?

I started late Oct, I didn’t even give Xmas a second thought, so maybe mentally you’re not there yet, not ready to do this journey, if you’re thinking I should hold off for another couple of months so I can eat loads.

CatFinderGeneral · 30/10/2025 14:24

Don’t wait! You can use that time really effectively to start on a very low dose so your body gets used to it. That way you will reduce side-effects! You may even lose very little to begin with; until you go up a dose – everybody’s different. I think it’s great to have those couple of months where you can start slowly and your body just get used to the medicine. 💊 I started at the end of November last year. It didn’t really affect my Christmas because I was on a very low dose. Half the normal starting dose. However, I still lost a bit of weight. And I still enjoyed Christmas and ate fairly normally. I couldn’t manage Christmas pudding though!

PearlTeapot · 30/10/2025 14:58

I enjoy my food, just less of it. I can eat literally everything and do, just don't obsess over it anymore. Most of the time I reach for plainer/cleaner foods now just because I see it as fuel for my body than a treat all the time now.

I am actually looking forward to NOT stuffing my face over christmas. I've done it for my whole life and look where it got me? 22 stone and fucking miserable.

I'd rather have less roast potatoes and be 6 stone lighter 😊

It definitely takes away the enjoyment because you physically can’t eat it and some things you loved will repulse you however I’d start now and just don’t take it Xmas week

Fuddly24 · 30/10/2025 17:34

Don't wait, go for it. I started on 28 November last year at 14st 10lb. Over Christmas I still enjoyed all the food I would normally just much smaller portions and no picking, still lost 1lb Christmas week. Best thing I've ever done. Now weigh 9st 8lb and been maintaining since August. Size 16 (tight) to a 10. Minimal side effects apart from appetite suppression. Good luck with your journey x

Isobel201 · 30/10/2025 17:54

Start now, get the side effects mostly done with by Christmas. Although just be careful with really fatty foods.

Whippetwonder · 30/10/2025 17:56

I started this time last year ,I'm 9 stone down now .
Christmas was fine ,I ate everything I wanted and fancied, and monjroro helped me make good decisions and control the amount I ate ,I can't of been on higher than 5 mg or 7 mg back then either .
I can easily put a stone on over December, and quite a few years I have ..so knowing that I was determined to be on it by Christmas last year

Bugling · 30/10/2025 18:09

I started 10th September and have lost over 8kg (1 stone 4lb) and the first weeks I felt very off food and a bit sick but now I enjoy small portions and just don’t have the urgent to randomly eat. I don’t like eating in the morning and I feel bloated all night if I eat too late so I’m naturally intermittent fasting now as I eat a small lunch around 1 and then evening meal around 6. This past weekend I had a special anniversary trip so I didn’t inject on Friday and by Monday I could eat more and definitely felt a difference so I’m planning to not take it over the Christmas week so I can enjoy a little more! There’s no reason to not start now if you can.

Catsknowbest · 30/10/2025 18:23

Personally yes but only really small amounts and I also find food no longer "talks to me" ie if I'm opening the fridge or shopping its just not saying anything 😅 I'm having to give Christmas serious thought because the idea of what I would have laid on before is just, no. I have days on end where I literally don't experience hunger and know I have to eat but its difficult. I know its different for everyone though.

That must have been a bad day for you....i had loads of roasties last week 🤣🤣

FlowersFawb · 30/10/2025 18:27

Yes, you still enjoy food. I have take aways, eat healthy sometimes, sometimes not. Its varied. I just cannot eat big portions any nore and alcohol makes me throw up! I have lost 6 stone since January!

Flakey99 · 30/10/2025 18:42

@OuiOuiMonAmi
How much weight do you have to lose?
Will you carry on putting on weight between now and January or can you maintain your current weight if you’re sensible?

If you have a lot to lose then it makes sense to start now and to get your body used to the drugs before you hit Christmas.

Once you have lost all the excess weight you will have to learn to eat healthily FOREVER if you want to keep the weight off. So bingeing at Christmas and other times of the year doesn’t sound like a good idea and taking time learning to eat the foods you enjoy in moderation makes much more sense, if you think about it.

UnimaginableWindBird · 30/10/2025 18:48

I think it depends. I started taking Mounjaro at roughly the same time as a close friend so we have been comparing notes. I still enjoy food, probably more than I did before because I feel in control, and I'm eating tasty things that I choose rather than just stuffing it in my face. But my friend has no appetite and sees food as neutral nutrition at best and a chore the rest of the time. BUT, if you did feel that way, you could just space out your doses around Christmas so that it would wear off enough for you to have little platefuls of all your festive favorites and feel satisfied.

gallivantsaregood · 30/10/2025 19:05

For me the whole point of the jab is not only to lose weight but to change my relationship with food. So I've been on holiday, going away again tomorrow and have continued to jab. I went on holiday , enjoyed my food and lost weight! I have every intention of enjoying mumy food this holiday and at Christmas or any other special occasions but without absolutely stuffing my face the way I used to.

I'd start now and I'd keep jabbing right through the holidays

DBatteryBand · 30/10/2025 19:06

I agree with folk saying give it a go, now. A friend and I once agreed to do WeightWatchers after Christmas and consequently stuffed our faces for the whole of December, putting on at least a stone each! Get stuck into it. You will probably just want to eat a bit less. I am usually deep into mince pie territory by now, but I just don't fancy them.

MeridaBrave · 30/10/2025 20:52

Yes I enjoy food. But smaller portions, no desserts and no roast veg. Could take a week off the jabs for Christmas if you really wanted to.

Gingercar · 30/10/2025 20:56

I enjoy food very much. I can still eat good sized portions of pretty much anything and I don’t get side effects. (roast potatoes not a problem!). But I’m eating much healthier foods and really enjoying it.
