Have you changed WHAT you eat on Mounjaro?

2 weeks in, eating much less but am more and more turned off by anything rich, smelly, greasy. Feel more like I want to eat fresh things. This is obviously a good thing but not expected! Has anyone here completely changed what they eat as well as amounts? How did you manage this? And when you come off has it stuck?

Absolutely. 9 weeks in. Totally dislike pies/most pastry, chips, anything stodgy, don't fancy alcohol most of the time, even food adverts can make me feel ugh. Not near coming off yet though transitioning to Wegovy in Dec

ChangePlease · 21/10/2025 21:51

Yes! Anything stodgy! I had a craving for mango and a salad today, WTF 😬

im still eating my ‘normal’ diet at the moment really as it’s what we have in, but I just don’t want chilli/lasagne/cottage pie so much. Which are the only things really that the whole family likes. Maybe will try lemony casserole with chicken - lemon is what I want a lot flavour wise right now

Yes. I’m five months in and three stones down, and still eating lovely fresh, healthy food. I’ve barely eaten any processed foods or refined sugar since I started. I’m hoping I can do this long term. I am eating larger portions of it though, so might need to rein myself in a bit (I don’t get much suppression).

SilenceInside · 21/10/2025 21:53

Yes, I instantly went off crisps and generally refined white carbs. It was pretty weird, like a switch had flicked and I just was a bit repelled by them. I wanted fresh things, lots of veg, and protein. I also found sweet things to be far too sweet and found them too sickly to be appealing.

Marylou2 · 21/10/2025 21:57

Definitely. Although the main change has been the amount I eat, I have certainly stopped eating and fatty or sugary foods. Feel dreadful after even small amount on Mounjaro.

HeidiLite · 21/10/2025 21:58

I stopped drinking alcohol and haven't touched chocolate since january.

Yes I noticed I wanted "fresh" flavours!

Yes been no white bread in our house in nearly 3 months and its helped non MJ husband too, to lose weight with the other changes though I make sure he eats enough 😅

PurpleCoo · 21/10/2025 22:34

My diet was already pretty healthy, in terms of meals. It was just the portion size and the 'treats' that caused the problem.

That being said, I have still noticed changes. Of course the portion sizes are much smaller. Some foods repulse me, I can't stand the smell of anything fried/greasy, and just the thought of doughnuts or pastry makes me feel sick.

I get excited about pulses and vegetables. I just had to go grocery shopping feeling hungry, because I didn't realise I had a missing ingredient when cooking dinner, and sure enough, it resulted me me impulse buying lots of food I fancied... I came away with courgettes, baby corn, cavolo nero, chestnut mushrooms and a sack full of other veg, I haven't meal planned for but I will make work!

I do fancy treats occasionally. Two weeks ago, I really fancied pizza. Hadn't had any since before Feb when I started MJ, so thought I would treat myself, as had been thinking about pizza for a week (not in a food noise way). I had it, enjoyed it, and have absolutely no desire to have pizza any time soon again.

Importantly though, I still love food, and I still enjoy meal planning, buying new recipe books, trying new things etc. I can still do spice. I still do red meat about once a fortnight. Tonight I had a homemade pancetta and chipotle pappardelle dish, that was delicious! But I am enjoying making dishes that are full of protein, low calorie and really tasty.

FlowersFawb · 21/10/2025 22:40

Not hugely. I eat a real variety of good and bad foods. Heavy greasy stuff makes me sick though as does alcohol. I try and be balanced I had a dwssert after dinner tonight.

I have lost 2 lbs short of 6 stone since Jan this year!

DBatteryBand · 21/10/2025 22:44

4 stone down since May. Totally off carbs, crisps, cakes (although have occasional biscuit issues). If I could live entirely on iceberg lettuce and grated carrot I'd be a happy woman. Whatever meal I am eating, I am head first into the green veg, before I even look at the protein. It's totally out of character. Witchcraft, it's the only explanation.

ChangePlease · 21/10/2025 22:46

@PurpleCoo I am going to pizza express at the weekend and already thinking I will want to opt for the Caesar salad (I know that is not healthy per se before I get jumped on!) - before I would have been excited about the prospect of a pizza. I’m not sure how I feel about this from a sustainability perspective

ShrankLastWinter · 21/10/2025 22:47

Yeah, it’s witchcraft. I’m suddenly the irritating twat who looks at the menu and gets excited by the Caesar salad or the Dover sole. I also make butter bean casserole and enjoy eating it.

narcASD · 22/10/2025 00:12

4 weeks in and I get cravings for Greek yogurt, chai seeds and blueberries, this is from a self confessed chocoholic.
1st 2lb down so far but still struggling with the nighttime snacking. Looking forward to go up to 5 this weekend as feel I need a higher dose to curb the snack attacks at night

TheChosenTwo · 22/10/2025 00:19

Almost a full year in (4 days time!) and my diet is vastly different to this time 1 year ago.
I mostly eat a raw salad type lunch or something like roasted veg and grains, and then a small serving of dinner. I’ve had about 5 packets of crisps in a year, no bars of chocolate although have eaten chocolate over the course of the year. Very small amounts and very infrequently though; just don’t often want it.
If I want something between meals it will be fruit, maybe once a week.
I barely touch alcohol, rarely fancy it.
used to have a takeaway once a week and I think I’ve had 3 this year - really enjoyed them and wanted them rather than just relied on them for convenience.

HappyWineDay · 22/10/2025 06:46

I wouldn’t say it’s caused me to change what I eat. I did that myself consciously, but it has enabled me to stick with it without any cravings or feeling I’m missing anything.
Since June I haven’t touched bread, potato, pasta or rice, and haven’t missed any of them. All meals cooked from fresh. I used to have a real weakness for bags of wine gums and haven’t remotely fancied a single one. Similarly, I’d easily trough through a family bag of crisps while watching tv, and not a single crisp has passed my lips since I started.
So the change has been my choice (I think!) but the mj has made it much easier.

Southwest12 · 22/10/2025 09:32

I've not bought chocolate since August 2024. I used to eat chocolate everyday, and I don't miss it. I'm hoping that my taste for it has gone for good now.

samones · 22/10/2025 09:36

Yes, before I even started I did a big healthy shop and I now eat what I tried (and failed) and o eat any other time I tried to lose weight.

I do eat bread, potatoes and chocolate still.

LaGioiosanotLeviosa · 22/10/2025 09:40

Actually no because for a very long time before I was eating salad every day and healthy cooked meals in an evening.
Not really any chocolate or cakes and alcohol was kept to a weekend in moderation.
My evening portion size has reduced which is great and I’ll keep it up when I get to target and titrate off.
BUT this is what’s been the most amazing and revealing thing for me… it genuinely means that actually I wasn’t some fatty overeating. It means that the drug is actually helping my PCOS and making my body do what it’s supposed to do!! I wish there were more studies into this because there must be tons of us in the same boat.
Im interested to see if for anyone else who have got to target with PCOS if no it’s easier to just maintain?

Lazygardener · 22/10/2025 10:25

I don’t crave chocolate or sweet things any more, and am satisfied with say a couple of squares of chocolate now and again, rather than a significant amount every day. Other than that, I just feel satisfied with smaller portions of the food I ate before. A few negatives - I’ve gone off yoghurt for some reason, and have to remind myself to eat fruit.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/10/2025 10:30

I’m nearly 3 stone down since May 29th. I’m wearing size 14 jeans, the first time in 25 years!

There are no snacks in the house, none! There are now bananas, apples and fresh pineapple. No beige food.

We’ve gone very non UPF - even changed to single source virgin olive oil instead of seed oils.

Our portions are smaller and half the plate is veg or salad. It has been life changing for us (both me and DH are on a 5mg jab, we take it every 10 days.

Do I get hungry, yes, but not so much that a cup of green tea and a chopped apple doesn’t cure.

susiedaisy1912 · 22/10/2025 10:32

Yes I can’t stand fatty greasy rich foods. I automatically want more fruit and veg. The thought of a milky type coffee with a pastry turns my stomach now but it was always a favourite treat before. Also I can’t remember the last time I ate cheese.

Wildgoat · 22/10/2025 11:00

Yes I love fresh and dried fruit now for example and never touched it before; I’m in maintence and ate a mini chocolate crispy thing from markies last night, second bit of chocolate in about a year and it tasted overly sweet and synthetic,

Well done! 👍 very similar here with portions

LadyClumber · 22/10/2025 12:11

I never craved sweets/ sweet things but I did crave bread and pasta with no off-switch for consumption! Since starting MJ late June, I have had virtually no bread or pasta and no cravings for either. The one time I did eat (wholewheat) pasta, I felt ill immediately afterwards even though it was a very small portion. Haven’t touched it since.
