Not telling GP

Seriestwo · 11/10/2025 23:01

I’m on mj through voy, and it’s working well. I was shamed when I spoke to my gp about going on injections so I’m reluctant to buy from suppliers who (do the responsible thing and) tell your practice you are buying from them.

anyone got other suppliers who will do it without telling GP? I want to compare prices

I’m for and well, just fat, so I don’t want to have the argument with my doctor. He just thinks I should run more - but I’ve been very fat for 30 years and nothing has worked until now!

Your GP really needs to know if you have any other health issues. I mean, they can’t stop you taking it and will have numerous other patients to be bothered about

I think rules are a bit stricter so they should tell your GP. Doesn't matter if the GP isnt a fan. Im not sure they know much about obesity and they have so many patients I doubt they give it a second thought

Voy don’t tell your GP. That’s why I use them.

Seriestwo · 11/10/2025 23:19

I know GP should know - but mine disapproves because he thinks you just eat less. This is an ongoing issue with him and me, he is the classic “your sore elbow would be less sore if you were less fat” sort of doctor that we all don’t belive actually exists.

I don’t have other health issues apart from menopause - boy don’t tell your practice if you ask them not to and I am happy with that for now. Maybe once I have lost a chunk that will change but I don’t want to have the annoyance.

is anyone able to suggest other suppliers who won’t insist on telling your practice?

Swift tell the gp. Asda had a downloadable letter you could send to your gp. I do not recommend Asda, their customer service is slow.

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 11/10/2025 23:19

Your GP surgery will write to you to acknowledge the prescription and that they’re not the prescriber
Your GP has hundreds of patients they really are won’t single you out for particular judgement

I think most of their patients are people who want to avoid this conversation with their GP.

they have been fine but the costs are going up so I thought I should look around.

I think Voy told my gp.

Would your GP not twig anyway if you lost lots of weight?

It sounds like you could do with a different GP.

Seriestwo · 11/10/2025 23:22

Look, PP, I’m not making this up! My GP shamed me for asking. He also nags me about my weight. He attributes any minor illness or condition to my obesity. MJ is working - I don’t want to discuss it with him - I am aware it shouldn’t be like this and it is not ideal but it is.

Really? After you told them you didn’t want that? Oh no, that is not good to hear!

I don’t remember telling them anything regarding telling my GP. I’ve had a few suppliers since Voy.

No. The prescriber will contact the GP, good practice is share the prescribing
The guidance from the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) mandates rigorous checks and share information with GP.

Shamed by your GP? Fuck that. Tell him you're on them and get the receptionists to record your new weight each week on your file. Maybe post him a photo once in a while too, maybe when you hit milestones.

Or maybe have a think why you are so vexed
Do elaborate on how the receptionist is making weekly clinical entries, how that work?

Mine regularly enter my weight and blood pressure onto my file. How it works is I use their machine in the foyer, tell them my results and they record them on my record.

They don’t even know who my GP is so there’s no way they could tell them.

Silverblue1985 · 11/10/2025 23:34

I’ve had online doctor prescriptions (not WLI, but guess it’ll be the same), and also contraceptives and antibiotics from pharmacies. The letters just get scanned and added to the health record by admin staff, I doubt any GP ever looks at them considering two of mine had completely wrong descriptions added which I had to flag and chase multiple times to be corrected.
They’re way too busy enough to look at these things.

same. And it suits for now. I accept there are risks and it’s not optimal but neither is destroying my working relationship with my GP. This is a long standing issue, my obesity, I have tried and failed on the weight management and prescribed exercise programme and everything’s. I don’t need another failure on my GP notes, I don’t find that helpful. I’d rather try it myself first - especially as it is working and I am down 2 dress sizes

self check in prior to consultation, you report the results obtained in the surgery using their equipment
Somewhat different to you just randomly tell receptionist weekly what you weigh

FairyBatman · 11/10/2025 23:42

Why don’t you change GP if there’s another one locally.

I am not going in for a consultation. I am going in purely to weigh myself and get BP. I don't need to speak to reception, but they are always friendly and happy to record. Nice ladies.

You sure it's me who's vexed?

You need to have retorts ready for comments like these, such as “can you write in my notes that you refuse to investigate my symptom/illness because you believe every problem I have is weight related” “If I was a man, would you be this dismissive?”
“I’m concerned that your focusing solely on weight could miss a correct diagnosis. Can you explore all possible causes?”
“I deserve thorough medical care regardless of my weight. Please treat this symptom with the same urgency you would for any other patient.”
“I don’t feel like my concerns are being taken seriously. Is there another doctor I could speak to for a second opinion?”
“I’m worried something important might be missed if you attribute everything to weight. What other causes could it be?”“If I wasn’t fat, what would you be checking for right now?” “Women’s health gets dismissed more than men’s as it is, you appear to be dismissing my health more so because I am also fat, could you document that you refuse to take me seriously?”
