Not telling GP

I’m on mj through voy, and it’s working well. I was shamed when I spoke to my gp about going on injections so I’m reluctant to buy from suppliers who (do the responsible thing and) tell your practice you are buying from them.

anyone got other suppliers who will do it without telling GP? I want to compare prices

I’m for and well, just fat, so I don’t want to have the argument with my doctor. He just thinks I should run more - but I’ve been very fat for 30 years and nothing has worked until now!

Thing is OP, any company currently not telling your GP, will eventually have to. It's a requirement of the regulator, a few still don't do it and get around this by saying they advise the patient to tell the GP themselves, but this is getting picked up in inspections (Oushk were picked up this and changed their practice). So expect a change from your provider following an inspection.

I'm with Pharmulous and on my most recent order they'd changed the form asking for a GP address and requiring I tick "yes" to informing my GP before they would prescribe.

I did not realise the rules had changed and the supplier is obliged to tell your GP. It makes sense, it is best practice, I just can’t be arsed with the conversation.

maybe what I should do is have a proper chat with him about my obesity and how his approach has made me avoidant. He’s actually a decent doctor and a nice bloke - apart from he has zero insight into why I have, despite lots of help, remained fat. But I’m hardly an outlier, so, thanks all, you have got me thinking of myself as a case study.

Silver believe you me the GP knows what else is prescribed.. when I get these letters I make a note and update your prescription list.
To the OP .. I am sorry that you had experience like that and felt shamed.. I try to operate a “weight neutral” practice . If you can then challenge your GP .. take someone with you.
Tp people who say they use providers who don’t inform their GP .. that’d highly unethical.. weight loss drugs can have severe side effects and you may come to harm.
PS I am an overweight GP who has tried wt loss drugs.. vomitted constantly so stopped.
Best wishes to those struggling.

Maybe you work in a better practice - the medication I’ve been given isn’t in my medication list and the last GP I saw had just about zero idea that I was prescribed it, if I hadn’t mentioned it and I definitely heard lots of others have the same experience. But then, there’s just about zero chance of ever seeing the same GP twice and I have never(!) seen my registered GP, but that’s another story.

I sympathise op and from a different perspective...I went to see my GP the other week. The first time in probably 2 years or more. I weighed 6st less than when I was last in and my BP had dropped from 140/90 to 108/64. I gave her my readings from the machine in reception, so I know she saw them. Guess what? Not a murmur, no congratulations, no 'how have you done that?' Nothing.

It's on my records that I'm on MJ. My GP was obviously so disinterested or anti, she couldn't bring herself to remark on me losing 40% of my body weight. After a lifetime of being fat-shamed by the medical profession, I shouldn't have been surprised i suppose.

Perhaps tell him to looks at DrEmmsAnders on YouTube a gp on MJ, she struggled with weight loss for years also, and knows the eat less do more doesn’t work for everyone.

You can change your GP! I wouldn’t want one I couldn’t be open and honest with about any health concerns.

LivelyJadeLeader · 16/10/2025 19:52

Numan,
they give you the option to not tell your GP

Bluebella27 · 16/10/2025 20:37

I go through my local pharmacy, my GP hasn’t been mentioned once x

waitingforlifeonmars · 17/10/2025 18:41

just had a thought,if you go abroad you must declare to the travel insurance people you are on MJ or Wegovy, if you don’t it could void your insurance. Because I told my gp, it’s now appeared on my nhs app as private prescription.

Seriestwo · 19/10/2025 01:35

Thanks all. This is really helpful

They know. I hadn't told my dr but was admitted to hospital last week. Every dr or consultant mentioned i was taking it. I was with medexpress. Let them know if you want it to be kept quiet
